To send a boiled egg to school?

I've just read that boiled eggs last for a week in the fridge. WIBU to cook 5 eggs on a Sunday and send my son in with one each day for his morning snack?

In his words he's "so lucky" any time I give him an egg so I'm not concerned about that... Just about if you would think that by Friday if the egg would still be okay? Taking into consideration being out of the fridge for 2 hours or so before it's eaten...

YABU - that's a terrible idea and the egg will be nasty by then

YANBU - go ahead and feed your egg fanatic 4 year old that cheap snack every day and save time on prep (🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻)

What's the point of boiling five of them for a whole week though? It's hardly any effort to boil an egg.

I bloody love an egg!

When I was little, my mum would occasionally put a boiled egg in my packed lunch, but I think I said to stop, because the other kids thought it was weird.

Whenever my mum does a packed lunch to take anywhere now, she'll almost always have a boiled egg as part of it!

Damn, now I want eggs for lunch!

Tuna smells EVEN WORSE and people still have that at school/work.

There’s something so cringe about eggs. Even the word is cringey.

I do like them though.

itsgettingweird · 04/09/2022 12:35

Eggs smell once they are mashed and added to sauce.

As a whole egg it's very rare I've ever smelt one.

No one has ever said mine smell and at first I always asked them as I was paranoid!

If I have egg sarnies OTOH .......!

itsgettingweird · 04/09/2022 12:36

And actually making boiled eggs is quite easy.

Asda have a egg boiler machine that was about £10 - I'm still tempted!

No input about the egg situation but the world would be a much better place if we could all enjoy the little things in life as much as your little boy seems to, OP!

Idk about the egg - I wish one of mine would long for a boiled egg and think they were the luckiest child ever to get one though. I just came in to say your DS sounds like a wonderful breath of fresh air - what a precious way to see the world. ❤️

If you want it dippable, I make sure water is boiling before, then 5.5 minutes once refrigerated temp eggs are in. No submersion in cold water after. Hard boiled I would do 10 minutes and submersion in cold water.

Thanks!!

30 odd years ago, my sister and I used to throw away our sandwiches on the way to primary school on the days my mum made egg because we knew there would be a huge fuss about the smell. We both thought going hungry over lunchtime was a safer option. Kids are cruel.

My dd has them in her lunch. Noone has ever mentioned the smell 🤷🏼‍♀️.

amusedbush · 06/09/2022 11:07

I once peeled two boiled eggs and ate them for breakfast at my desk. My colleague came in about 15 minutes later and immediately commented on the smell.

For some reason, my brain disengaged and I said, "sorry, that was me". Then I had to backtrack and explain I meant it was my breakfast, not ME BlushGrin
