AIBU to think this weekly pizza is absolutely acceptable?

It's our weekly pizza night. We have it every Saturday except when we are away. Nice tradition and bit of fun. Piza with any toppings we like (like ham and pineapple, pepperoni and anchovies), wine, beer, caprese... Just nice.

Here is where we have a problem tho. DH loves his pizza and does like the proper thing with 60% hydration dough, 24 hours rising, all that shebang. I feel neutral about pizza dough as I think it's just too much buzz about not much but I found out that a garlic and coriander naan from local Indian place is absolutely amazing pizza base! DH is not amused at all, lets me get on with it but does usually mention what heresy that is. But it's so yum!

So AIBU to use fresh garlic and coriander naan as my weekly pizza base?

My local shop do a massive garlic and coriander naan for about £2. Me and the dc always use it as a pizza base 😋😋

English muffins or a scone base were the quick go-to pizza bases in the 80s. Naan bread must be an improvement on that!
DS' favourite pizza Is a cauliflower base with mozzarella and red onion.
I prefer a wholemeal base with tomatoes, mozzarella, sardines, jalapeños and black olives.

I'm Indian and we do this at home.

I make Italian pizza with Italian dough, but sometimes I make an Indian style alternative: Naan bread, spread with tomato masala sauce, topped with keema curry, or butter chicken, some saag and some paneer (or halloumi). Corriander and yogurt once it is cooked. Fabulous!

Noooooooo, this is food abuse.
OMG why do people bastardize food like this?
This is on par with a co-op pizza or ready meal pretending to be home cooked version.
Oh and Pineapple on pizza.🤐

Pizza is already bastardized, it was created using cheese and bread, nice and standard fare and introducing the usurper that was New World Tomato (NWT)

NWT then found itself muscling in to all sorts of old world foods like pasta sauces, stews, ragus, ploughmans lunch (c1970s).

Bloody upstart.

Sounds delicious.

Tell you what naan bread is excellent for: fish finger sandwiches

JennyForeigner · 04/09/2022 20:15

We have a fussy toddler who loves to make pizza. I make naan as a way to get protein into him.

Combining the two - genius!

But what toppings do you use?

JennyForeigner · 04/09/2022 20:18

While we're here bastardising food (to quote pp) blended frozen butternut squash makes an AMAZING pizza sauce substitute. Kids love it, but so does everyone else.

Herejustforthisone · 04/09/2022 20:24

Sounds filthy. It would be way too dense.

Sandysandwich · 04/09/2022 20:41

I do this and its nice, I also make them with pitta pockets as the base, my son makes them with weird horozontal slices of baguette as well .
But I do make garlic bread from regular sandwich bread (with garlic butter and cooked in the oven) so i am not any kind of culinary person

There’s no such thing as not pizza. To me all this talk of 60% hydration dough is far too pretentious.

Pizza is a dough base, with toppings. As naan is a dough then crack on.
