AIBU to think this weekly pizza is absolutely acceptable?

It's our weekly pizza night. We have it every Saturday except when we are away. Nice tradition and bit of fun. Piza with any toppings we like (like ham and pineapple, pepperoni and anchovies), wine, beer, caprese... Just nice.

Here is where we have a problem tho. DH loves his pizza and does like the proper thing with 60% hydration dough, 24 hours rising, all that shebang. I feel neutral about pizza dough as I think it's just too much buzz about not much but I found out that a garlic and coriander naan from local Indian place is absolutely amazing pizza base! DH is not amused at all, lets me get on with it but does usually mention what heresy that is. But it's so yum!

So AIBU to use fresh garlic and coriander naan as my weekly pizza base?

Oh yes that is yummy 😋

We call them naanza and pitza (naan and pitta) 😊, everyone who hasn't tried them are missing out 😁

TheCorrs · 03/09/2022 20:07

I’m with you. Deep Naan Pizza

PhilomenaPringle · 03/09/2022 20:07

Also coriander in pizza? Nope, I wouldn't allow it

Coriander tastes like soap. Commonly known fact.

bellac11 · 03/09/2022 20:12

We often use a shop bought naan as a base for cheese on toast, which I normally add tomatoes and perhaps tomatoe puree to as a base, it turns into a pizza. Also I tell you what is good, a tomato chutney base, cheese on top, tomatoes and mushrooms on top of that, melted under the grill, some chives or spring onions added to that

Basilthymerosemary · 03/09/2022 20:20

No, non, nee, la, nien, nej

It's as a pp has said- an abomination. Either pizza or naan!!!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/09/2022 20:23

I voted YANBU because you can surely do as you like! I don’t think I’d consider it a great pizza but it might be an OK foodstuff as it’s own thing.

If your DH accepts ham and pineapple as a topping I don’t think he go about claiming to be a pizza purist.

MyPenIsHuge · 03/09/2022 20:30

Whatever floats your boat OP

We have standard pizza once a week. Cheese, tomato and bread - totally plain. ASD household though so our menu is limited.

TroysMammy · 03/09/2022 20:32

A plain naan if that is all you have and need a pizza might be ok. Coriander and garlic naan no way.

Have you tried using mascarpone on a pizza base instead of mozzarella?

bloodyunicorns · 03/09/2022 20:32

We use naan bread as a pizza base! Started doing this at uni 30 years ago!!!

DarlingDarwin · 03/09/2022 20:37

I’ve just read the word pizza so much it’s lost all meaning…

Thoughtful2355 · 03/09/2022 20:44

raindon · 03/09/2022 20:46

It's your pizza have what you want. He can have what he wants.

Same to be honest

SilverWing · 03/09/2022 20:54

Ooh I do both. Love making my own pizza dough and can make a pizza as good as takeaway / restaurant. But I also sometimes do a naan pizza, with a spicy sauce and tandoori chicken, also pretty good and different.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/09/2022 20:57

No need to muck about with naan bread and the like, I can turn out a very passable pizza in two secs (hence my name)
Start with the two ends of a sliced loaf (crusts),
Smear liberally with Tom ketchup,
Grate some cheese over it (or tear up some Dairylea slices)
Add topping of choice (sausage, hula hoops, peas etc.)
Pop into microwave for four or five minutes (before it starts smoking)
Serve. Yum yum.

Wafflesnsniffles · 03/09/2022 20:58

Both of you are wrong I think.
Him to take it so seriously. You thinking that naan bread can be a pizza base.

Relevanceiskey · 03/09/2022 21:02

I got loads of mini garlic and coriander naans from Olio and used them to make mini pizzas for my toddler. Perfectly acceptable meal IMO!

chilliesandspices · 03/09/2022 21:05

Nigella recommended using naans as a quick pizza base years ago. Personally I'd rather make my own but the base is the most important part for me. Nigella's tip was to use naan over the cardboard pre-made bases which I agree with. Still wouldn't convince me to skip making my own.

fionaapple · 03/09/2022 21:06

I do this with shop bought garlic and coriander naan breads😶sorry to all cultures involved that this offends x

fionaapple · 03/09/2022 21:07

Oh and if you think it can't be used as a pizza base, try it and come back to us

Borris · 03/09/2022 21:11

Wrap pizza is the best

CorvusPurpureus · 03/09/2022 21:16

Well, it's not pizza, but then very little that's sold as 'pizza' would meet with Italian approval. You won't even get any sort of consensus between Rome & Naples, never mind Italy, aldi pizza bases & chucking naans into the mix.

I'd skip the coriander for this one, though.

I live in Cairo & make a mean 'pizza' with a base of local balady bread, but I'm not going to claim it's authentic.

maddening · 03/09/2022 21:19

Naan is an excellent pizza base, we used to do them all the time.

Pickle1512 · 03/09/2022 21:24

Hello fresh are always sending me Naanizza

secrethedgehog · 03/09/2022 21:34

Have had naan pizza a la nigella and it's good, but not really pizza.

As a compromise Aldi ready rolled pizza dough, at a £1, is more authentic and actually very nice. We have a pizza oven and I usually make the dough but this just saves all the mess and hassle.
