Cost of Living Support payment

I received £326 into my bank this morning from HMRC COLS… No idea what that means so I googled it and it’s a cost of living support payment.

Im a bit confused about why I’ve received it though as I’m a high rate tax payer so my income doesn’t allow for any means tested benefits!
I’ve read the criteria and don’t qualify for it from what I can see. Maybe I’m wrong? If anyone has any ideas please let me know…

AIBU to be worried about spending it? Should I contact HMRC to give it back?

As others have said the tax credits cost of living payments are supposed to start from tomorrow untill the 7th of September, how strange .

Not if you are in Wales- they have been issued already.

I'm on tax credits and got mine today in England

I got mine today.

I got CTC because my ds gets pip.

He's now 18 and they stopped end of august (Finished college) so was nice to still get the payment. They haven't yet announced the qualifying date for the second payment.

Is it wrong to hope it's sometime that starts the other side of end of august?! (I'm sure it won't because then loads like me with children who left education will benefit!)

We will also get the £150 because ds gets PIP.

The payments were from 2nd September, so may have shown as incoming prior to that, but Wales was no exception. This is a UK government initiative paid to tax credit claimants by HMRC.

Tax credits claimants are getting it between today and the 7th. Have you ever claimed?

we got it today but we were expecting it. We are very grateful!

I hope you get to keep it. Nice to hear of a higher rate tax payer getting something for a change. We get nothing, not even child benefit.

Apart from a liveable wage and not having to go through humiliating processes (!)

Sorry mixed this up with the col payment that council tax depts issued in Wales- no idea HMRC were issuing col payments too (sorry).

I got a letter from HMRC saying mine was coming (I get TC) but if it accidentally comes through twice I need to contact and pay it back. I’d contact HMRC to be on the safe side

I got mine today too. I wouldn't say I'm grateful though. I'm glad, relived, less stressed because I can put petrol in my car to get to work on Monday and buy the weeks shop but then, working 2 jobs, even as a single parent I should be able to do that without handouts from the government and it'll soon be gone then I'll be at square 1. Not really a position of gratitude for me!

I received this today, we were receiving a small amount of tax credits at the start of the year but are now having to pay it back. We aren’t high earners so it’s handy but don’t understand why they paid it to me when we are paying them back? I’m going to keep it in a separate account just in case but it was a nice surprise!
