Cost of Living Support payment

Glitterbomber · 01/09/2022 06:42

I received £326 into my bank this morning from HMRC COLS… No idea what that means so I googled it and it’s a cost of living support payment.

Im a bit confused about why I’ve received it though as I’m a high rate tax payer so my income doesn’t allow for any means tested benefits!
I’ve read the criteria and don’t qualify for it from what I can see. Maybe I’m wrong? If anyone has any ideas please let me know…

AIBU to be worried about spending it? Should I contact HMRC to give it back?

I hope you get to keep it. Nice to hear of a higher rate tax payer getting something for a change. We get nothing, not even child benefit.

I'll swap with you, you can have my disabilities too.

OP

Are you a pensioner?

FantasylandEnthusiast · 01/09/2022 08:32

The first payments are starting from the 2nd September for those who qualified by child tax credit.
Universal credit and other benefit received theirs in July, and are due their second payment in autumn at some point.

I'm doubtful about this tbh as the payments haven't started yet.

Lucky you 🙄

Brighteyedtriangle · 01/09/2022 08:33

Are you sure its for that. I had a payment in my account from hmrc a few months ago couldnt get through to them after a few tries. Turns out it was my childcare tax account money being returned.

x2boys · 01/09/2022 08:36

As others have said the tax credits cost of living payments are supposed to start from tomorrow untill the 7th of September, how strange .

OP

No, thanks. I’m a carer for my disabled mum, she needs me. I had to go to a tribunal to appeal for her PIP payments.

Just because I’m happy for OP doesn’t mean I resent disabled people. What a bizarre assumption on your part.

HMRC COLS indicates it is cost of living support paid because OP received tax credits within the qualifying period. If OP did not, then it's a mistake.

I wonder if OP has one of those bank accounts that show pending incoming payments though, that might be why it's visible today, but not paid until tomorrow. I can't remember off the top of my head which banks do this but it's quite common now/

germsandcoffee · 01/09/2022 09:04

If you go on the government site it tells you what to do if you've received it and not eligible.

Well as they are not entitled to it they won't will they?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 01/09/2022 13:23

Were you entitled to Tax credits on the qualifying dates or possibly even a penny of Universal credit?
I'm not entitled to receive it so idk
PIP entitles you to £150 only
Definitely ring HMRC

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/09/2022 13:24

I doubt OP will be back.

HMRC are only paying people who quality due to tax credits, it can't be anything else.

I know the OP isn’t, but just because people are a higher rate tax payer doesn’t mean they aren’t eligible. There are people who are eligible for UC and tax credits who are higher rate tax payers.

I'm not sure why you are not understanding that you have to be in receipt of tax credits to get ,it,so if the Op did indeed get it, its a mistake ,if others also get it ,it will also be a mistake, is this too difficult for you to understand?

mattressspring · 01/09/2022 13:31

It doesn't take much to bring out the nasty streak in some, does it?

murphyb · 01/09/2022 13:47

Keep shhh don't say anything, treat yourself or your children that's what I say.
I am on universal credit work part time struggle everyday and wasn't entitled to it becuase I didn't make a claim in time for universal credit as I was working but quit becuase I had a stroke.
Now go go Halo

Pene3434 · 02/09/2022 08:27

I hope you get to keep money that isn't for you and isn't needed by you but is instead for people financially struggling because rich people should get extra cash just for being so awesome and rich?

I can see mine, HSBC. And we're def entitled, unless someone wants to care for my disabled DS so I can get a job that means we out earn tax credits.
