To have Xmas just me and my dog and where should we go?

Doggyxmas · 31/08/2022 18:29

For way too many reasons to go into - I am on my own this Xmas with my dog. I am quite happy about this - but do what to go somewhere nice and cosy where we can have a lovely time.

im thinking not a hotel as I don’t want the risk of any Shirley valentine moments where I’m happily dining alone and people sympathetically ask me to join…

so am thinking a nice cosy cottage with. I’ve views and good walks (but not walks where I will get lost)

am in Kent and and have never been to Norfolk

any one have any suggestions???

thank you!

Yes Norfolk is lovely, lots of walks for you both.

Doggyxmas · 31/08/2022 18:31

@Cruisebabe1 oh fab thank you - have you got any more specific suggestions? I’ve googled it but was overwhelmed and my brain shut down

Get yourself looking straight away , as your probably pushing it already to get yourself a cosy cottage wherever you chose.

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 31/08/2022 18:34

Not been for a while but Sheringham area was nice last time I went. Maybe someone here has been more recently?

TwoMonthsOff · 31/08/2022 18:35

@Doggyxmas
sounds absolute bliss, stock up on lovely cheese and wine ❤️
I would think that the smaller properties (one bedroom) wouldn’t be in such demand at Christmas time, but agree you need to get booking as some maybe are not dog friendly.

I stayed at hay cottage off the back of the guardian article and did a lot of the things mentioned. The cottage is bijou but would be fine for one and is cosy with wood burner and well equipped in general. The norfolks edge caravans on the beach sold great food and no chance of a Shirley Valentine moment on a breezy picnic table. The Gunton Arms was great if a bit of a trek and amazing art as owned by Ivor Braka. Can’t remember if I saw any dogs unfortunately

Norfolk Hideways are great. Get somewhere close to the coast and then you get the coastal path, beach and can go inland. Old Hunstanton round to Sheringham has some great villages. We have stayed in many around there. The few beaches that are restricted to dogs are open to all in the winter. Northumberland is lovely too but a little more bracing than Norfolk. Sounds bliss OP I miss going away with my dogs now I have Dc. Wrap up warm and enjoy. Your dog is gorgeous is it a cocker or clumber spaniel?

EcoCustard · 31/08/2022 18:58

Just seen your post, enjoy!

Facecream · 31/08/2022 18:59

I’m so jealous! I’d have given anything for a Christmas alone with my old boy 😢. He did love Norfolk though!!

NorthernPud · 31/08/2022 19:00

Amazing idea. Enjoy!! And what a cutie you have there

SierraSapphire · 31/08/2022 19:00

I'd go along the more westerly parts of the north Norfolk coast, Wells, Stiffkey, Cley, Blakney, Brancaster, Old Hunstanton (not main Hunstanton!) - amazing beaches where you can take dogs and walks over the marshes, a couple of RSPB reserves and plenty of cafes and some shops for mooching (though don't know about Christmas opening), then there's Holt or Burnham Market inland also for shops and mooching.
