To have Xmas just me and my dog and where should we go?

Doggyxmas · 31/08/2022 18:29

For way too many reasons to go into - I am on my own this Xmas with my dog. I am quite happy about this - but do what to go somewhere nice and cosy where we can have a lovely time.

im thinking not a hotel as I don’t want the risk of any Shirley valentine moments where I’m happily dining alone and people sympathetically ask me to join…

so am thinking a nice cosy cottage with. I’ve views and good walks (but not walks where I will get lost)

am in Kent and and have never been to Norfolk

any one have any suggestions???

thank you!

Welcome cakes need to be compulsory at any venue.

Have a great time!

TwoMonthsOff · 31/08/2022 19:06

@Cakecakecheese
i would have asked if there was any chance to swap for a cheese hamper 🐷

PoseyFlump · 31/08/2022 19:09

Aaww what a lovely idea. I must do this one day to get away from the madness. Have a wonderful time.!

mycatisannoying · 31/08/2022 19:11

Come to Edinburgh! We're super dog-friendly here Smile

mycatisannoying · 31/08/2022 19:11

Oh, you've already booked.
Another time then Grin

thoroughlypipinghotbeforeserving · 31/08/2022 19:15

it sounds like heaven ! hope you both have a lovely time 🙂

Justwanttobebythesea · 31/08/2022 19:20

What kind of dog do you have? (missing the point of the thread but happily you seem to be sorted on that front!)

I could see myself in a cottage in Norfolk with exactly that type of dog when I get one. Enjoy!

Doggyxmas · 31/08/2022 19:26

Hes a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

he is the bestest boy

thanks for all the other suggestions too - next year is in fact going to be my year of traveling with him - I’ve got a job that can do from anywhere. I’ve moved us to a small bolt hole place as a base and we’re going to go on adventures from there

so stay tuned 😁

@Cruisebabe1 oh fab thank you - have you got any more specific suggestions? I’ve googled it but was overwhelmed and my brain shut down

There's a company called caninecottages.co.uk. I haven't used them, but I keep getting emails (entered a competition) and the properties look lovely.

Doggyxmas · 31/08/2022 19:33

@TwoMonthsOff no he’s outraged that is don’t ask for cheese!!

he is very used to being told he his very cute 😁

@Doggyxmas
you have made the best choice, imagine having to go to a hotel dining room and ‘mingle’ when you could be on a sofa with your pj’s on, good movie, dog, snacks, wine and log fire…no brainer completely 🙂

Doggyxmas · 31/08/2022 19:35

I’m so excited. So pleased I posted 😁

Earlier this summer we had a fantastic dog friendly break at a lovely historic country house wing, very luxurious and properly dog friendly with enclosed garden with a hot tub, and dog friendly pub a short walk away.
Walked to the beach each day, took our whippet everywhere to pubs, restaurants etc and accomodation was amazing.
They are open all year, called Eagles Nest at Greyfriars, nr Rye, website is greyfriars.co....

moofolk · 31/08/2022 19:40

Alone with a dog at Christmas, going for windy walks along a beach, maybe sitting by the fire in a country pub. I'm closing my eyes and thinking about it now.

Sounds absolutely lush.

As to where, depends where you live & how far you want to travel.

Northumbria coast is beautiful. As is north west wales. Morfa Nefyn on Llyn Peninsula, near the Ty Coch pub.

But no doubt these isles are scattered with similar places.

Enjoy.

Countrydiary · 31/08/2022 19:42

This sounds like a heavenly Christmas and I hope you both have the best time!!

If you decide to go and try and see seals is learn how to safely do it with dogs, as the seals will just be at the end of the breeding season in December. There’s good advice here.

I think there is something so special about Norfolk in the winter - with be brilliant.

Posted before I realised you'd booked.

Have an excellent time. I am a bit jealous, as I think are a few others on here, so let us live vicariously through you.

You're doing it for Mumsnet!
