To feel really stupid being in A&E right now?

Offandonagain · 30/08/2022 20:39

I’ve had really severe abdominal cramps and sharp pains that have doubled me over and got progressively worse over the past week.

It started near my belly button but the main pain is now in my lower right side. I feel like I’ve got a stitch/labour pains/trapped wind all at once! Intensified every few minutes.

It hurts when I walk, stand mainly. But the pain is agonising when I stand up from sitting. It comes and goes in pain strength but it always there.

I’ve come to A&E as it’s just not going away but I feel like they’re dismissing me and not taking it seriously, which makes me question whether it is serious at all. Triage said it’s probably a uti and why haven’t i been to gp. But I’m worried if it’s something such as appendicitis then it needs looking at straight away surely?

you are there now,
are you still in pain?

Midpmcoffee · 30/08/2022 21:25

To be fair to the nurse, she sees the OP sitting in the waiting room with her eyes glued to her mobile, tapping away - it’s hardly the look of someone in “extreme pain”

iklboo · 30/08/2022 21:25

The op has had days to get this looked at

Maybe read the OP's posts before commenting.

I would have done but I’ve been in France. I tried to go to a french hospital a couple of days ago but struggled with the language barrier and me feeling quite vulnerable.

It's neither an accident or an emergency

And you know that how? Psychic?

Potential appendicitis is an emergency.

FiloPasty · 30/08/2022 21:26

You are in the best place stay put x

So she had every opportunity to get this looked at in France and decided not to

Again, she had days to get this looked at

Geez, feeling all high and mighty behind your little phone there? Really hope you got the pathetic power trip you so desperately clearly crave.

Don't you get much attention in real life?

Offandonagain · 30/08/2022 21:27

badgerybadgerboo · 30/08/2022 21:19

OP when you're done and you're better. Get onto Careopinion and leave a review. Explain how the triage nurse made you feel.

Her manager or the hospital will respond. God forbid the triage nurse has to treat someone with learning difficulties who can't speak up for themselves as they're processing so much pain and discomfort.

Thank you. I could just tell that she was dismissing me with her tone as she was much friendlier with other patients. Joking and chatting. With me she was just pissed off

@Offandonagain I was made to feel like a time-waster in A&E and then after spending about 8 hours in a hospital corridor when I went in with severe stomach pains. I am absolutely a non-complainer - in fact, my ex husband insisted on taking me (thank God he did) while I was doubled up and still saying I'd be fine. The doctor who finally saw me in the corridor said I definitely didn't have appendicitis and was inclined to send me home - but, fortunately, didn't. A consultant finally said she'd stick a camera down my throat, just to pacify me. When I woke up without an appendix and on IV antibiotics, she said I should have made more of a fuss, as my appendix had burst and I had peritonitis. So don't go until you are satisfied!

unlike the OP clearly

You are one sad sad person....

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/08/2022 21:30

PonyTime · 30/08/2022 20:50

If it's progressively gotten worse why haven't you sought help from your GP?

You're not going to get prioritised with a bad tummy ache

Time wasters are the worst

I was prioritised with stomach ache. It was just as well really, I had pancreatitis.

MrsMariaReynolds · 30/08/2022 21:30

What a sad state of affairs that we are ashamed to seek medical help when we most need it because the NHS is no longer fit for purpose. And even sadder that people are more than happy to go along with it.

Ignore the critics. You're absolutely in the right place. I hope you feel better soon, Op.

abbs1 · 30/08/2022 21:30

OP please dont leave. Get properly checked out.
When I was pregnant back in January (32 weeks) I went in to a and e as I was so breathless. Midwives and GP said its just being pregnant and that I was anaemic and gave me iron tablets. I could hardly walk 100feet before nearly passing out.
Blood tests flagged a pulmonary embolism and high blood pressure. After sitting in a and e for 12 hours they admitted me to a ward and the Drs looked very concerned and started blood thinners straight away. I was in hospital for 5 days while they ran tests and did treatment for it. Thankfully I got the all clear but flip me I'm glad I stayed in and didn't listen to the 2 triage nurses who laughed at me and basically told me to toughen up.

Go with your gut instinct and question everything until your happy that theyve ruled out anything serious. I hope you get sorted and feel better soon.

I hope they put the camera into your abdomen rather than down your throat !

LadyWithLapdog · 30/08/2022 21:30

OP, take the emotion out of it. You’re tired after a long journey and in pain. Maybe the nurse is tired too and has a long journey ahead. No point getting worked up about it. You’ll be seen and reassured or treated.

nokitchen · 30/08/2022 21:31

DH had a similar pain when playing golf. He managed to carry on playing thinking it was trapped wind. It was only when his appendix ruptured that he took it seriously. Luckily he made it through. Not worth taking the chance. Stay put.

TwitchyJerk · 30/08/2022 21:31

@Midpmcoffee m.e/c.f.s even though it can't be diagnosed as simply as that, but that was the Dr's opinion. The vomit had stopped having "coffee grounds" by the time I got seen, so I'm guessing that (the reason I came in ) was ignored but was given anti sickness drugs to take home.

Icouldabeenalawyer · 30/08/2022 21:31

It really irritates me when people say 'just' a UTI. They can be truly debilitating and horrifically painful.
Whatevwr it is, hope you get the help you need OP and feel better soon 💐

I would have done but I’ve been in France. I tried to go to a french hospital a couple of days ago but struggled with the language barrier and me feeling quite vulnerable.

I have been on the ferry and train from dover all day today, then broke down in tears when I got here just out of relief.

I’m thinking of just leaving and going to gp in the morn

You poor thing op, it must have been awful having to travel home feeling so bad. Please don’t leave A&E, you have every right to be there, it’s becoming very ‘dog eat dog’ at the moment. You have a right to emergency care when you are in such pain. I hope they get you sorted soon…but stick with it.

StaunchMomma · 30/08/2022 21:33

Make sure they give you a scan, OP.

Same happened to my Mum and they said she was impacted. Turned out she had a bowel perf and was in ICU for a month.

If you're in a lot of pain they really do need to sort you out.

Did you not bother to read her post where she explained she’s only just returned to the UK? GP’s closed now and if her appendix is about to burst it absolutely is a bloody emergency! The only way to know if it is, is to stay and be examined obviously!

lifeinmidthirties · 30/08/2022 21:33

Sounds like a kidney stone op.
Get well soon

PonyTime · 30/08/2022 21:34

@WestIsWest

There are hospitals in France

And other medical avenues to explore

The Op chose not to do that

Booklover3 · 30/08/2022 21:34

I wouldn’t leave OP get it seen to
