September

Hi everyone,
I was talking to my mum earlier about how September is coming up and she said she didn’t want to think about it. Apparently, she doesn’t like September as it’s a downward slope into winter (which she says is even worse).
I love September and always have. I find the weather can be lovely as it’s never too hot but you can get away without a hoodie midday if the suns out. I find it seems to bring a sense of calm on the house and I love to give it a really deep clean ready for the winter months ahead. I don’t have school aged children so maybe that’s why I like it but I find September a really nice month (and it’s a great time to go abroad as prices are down and the pools are still warm etc from the summer).
What does everyone else think about September? Am I the only one who likes it?

Also just to add I know this isn’t really AIBU but I didn’t know where else to put it!

I love September, probably my favourite month. Lots won’t be looking forward to it though this year because it’s the last month before the energy price hikes, and as it gets colder the reality will hit for many.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 30/08/2022 17:26

I quite like that Earth, Wind and Fire song

Dartmoorcheffy · 30/08/2022 17:26

I think its one of the prettiest months. I love all the changing colours. Still warm enough for just a t shirt out walking. I love every season though and quite look forward to dark nights. It never feels as relaxed having a bath in the evening when it's still light outside. Baths are for dark nights with candles lit and snuggling up in a fluffy dressing gown afterwards. I think January is my least favourite month if I had to choose.

MrsMcisaCt · 30/08/2022 17:30

I like it. I work in a preschool so it's all about new beginnings for me, with the new school year.

sageandrosemary · 30/08/2022 17:31

I can sympathise, to be honest. I really struggle mentally through the winter. I also really feel the cold so don't like it physically either 🥶

Has your mum ever mentioned feeling lower through winter?

We have things the other way round here - my mum loves winter were as I'm the one who hates it. I try and be enthusiastic about it with her though as everybody has different preferences!

TheSoapyFrog · 30/08/2022 17:32

I love September. The kids go back to school. I can get back into my routine. The weather is nice. Autumn is coming, and I love autumnal cooking.

Wakemeuuuup · 30/08/2022 17:32

I agree with your friend. It just feels like it's all downhill from here.

I think anxiousness about energy bills is making it much worse this year

AdoraBell · 30/08/2022 17:32

I like September, even though summer is my favourite season. I look forward to things like comfort food instead of salads, which I love, snuggling under a blanket in the evenings, that kind of thing.

Also for me it’s the end of spending until Christmas- even though I start Christmas shopping earlier in the year- twin DD’s birthday was a couple of days ago and both DH and myself have January birthdays. So there’s nothing else I need to plan for or think about other than Christmas.

Abracadabra12345 · 30/08/2022 17:33

I love September as I finally see an end to the endless summer and can look forward to autumn, dark nights, Christmas, interesting weather....bring it on!

ilovesooty · 30/08/2022 17:37

No thank you. It's all downhill from September onwards in my view. I shall just look forward to the end of March.

neverbeenskiing · 30/08/2022 17:39

I love September. Autumn is my favourite season.

Ship · 30/08/2022 17:39

I love September and the build up to Xmas. Halloween, bonfire night, cosy evenings under blankets and orange leaves. I love it. Absolutely hate Jan- March tho. Christmas is over and the magic is gone and it’s just bloody freezing and miserable and feels like spring is so far away!

Me too, fast forward please.

chillipenguin · 30/08/2022 17:41

Wake me up when September ends

Roominmyhouse · 30/08/2022 17:42

Yeah I hate it, it means summer is over and the cold weather and dark nights are coming.

MoodyTwo · 30/08/2022 17:43

I just love it when the trees turn orange, better nights sleep, I love September

Kingfishers · 30/08/2022 17:43

Yes I do love a bit of autumn cooking! I don’t mind winter however I prefer autumn and yes if I had to pick a least favourite month it would probably be either January or February. I lost agree about the energy bills, that will be a big problem for lots of people sadly.

I love September

Autumn is my favourite season. September is such a perfect transition.

gatehouseoffleet · 30/08/2022 17:45

I like September and October until the clocks go back. It's all downhill from there, and then you just look forward to the end of March.

This is probably time for my usual rant about the clocks not going forward until the end of March when they could go forward at the beginning instead and give us 3 or so weeks of extra daylight in the late afternoon/evenings, without having a significant impact on the mornings.

RedRobyn2021 · 30/08/2022 17:45

My mum is the same though she doesn't like autumn or winter!

Miriam101 · 30/08/2022 17:52

I love it.

I love the slight decrease in temperatures, bringing sunny, bright days without unbearable heat. I love the change in the leaves. I love the feeling of a new start that I somehow carry within me from school days, when my mum would take me to the stationary shop to buy a new pencil case or a lunchbox, and I'd get to see my friends again after the long summer holiday. I love the (no doubt illusory) promise of new and better habits that come from the chance of a new beginning- this year I'm going to try to go running again & read more. I love the evenings being slightly earlier, meaning it's almost dark when my kids go to bed (and there's less frolicking as a result). I also love- LOVE- the fact that it's getting slightly darker in the mornings and our toddler is sleeping later. I love my daughter's excitement at her "massive" new bits of school dresses. I love the long, slow approach to autumn proper, and puddle jumping, and leaf kicking, and Halloween, and Bonfire Night, and chocolate bananas and jacket potatoes and marshmallows. And Christmas.

So basically yeah it's quite good I reckon

FlissyPaps · 30/08/2022 17:57

Could your mum have Seasonal Affective Disorder?

I don’t really feel a certain way about September, however I do associate it with the transition of Summer to Autumn. Weather getting cooler. Nights slowly becoming darker. So I feel a really small twinge of sadness because I love summer and the long bright nights.

stopitstopitnow · 30/08/2022 18:01

I'm with your mum. I hate winter and September is a reminder that it's not far away. I feel a sense of sadness when the birds start to migrate as I know the long dark nights are just around the corner. Roll on April.

This!

I love the '-ber' months; back to school feeling and getting ready for cosy evenings under a blanket with my book. Both my and DS birthday, plus Halloween, Bonfire Night then Christmas.

Having said that I love January too!

Sunnyqueen · 30/08/2022 18:05

Totally with your mum, honestly if I think about the fact that it's this week it makes me tear up so I'm just trying not to think about it.
Also hate the fact kids are going back to school. I wish wish wish I had it in me to homeschool me. Now I am crying, and so it begins the great SAD.
