To think that premonitions are a thing?

Are premonitions a thing? Have you ever just knew something was going to happen and it did! Like, you knew you would marry a doctor and you did or you knew you were going to get a parking ticket that day and you did... that sort of thing. Does it happen?

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/08/2022 22:36

It does. I don’t know why.

Alleycat1 · 28/08/2022 22:42

Yes, it happens a lot. No idea how it works.

Bex268 · 28/08/2022 22:45

Too many times it’s happened to me too

GetOffTheRoof · 28/08/2022 22:48

It's just confirmation bias.

How many times have you believed you would do something like win the lottery, find something you've lost or go to an amazing location and it hasn't happened? I bet you don't remember all of those.....

KrisAkabusi · 28/08/2022 22:50

No. It's confirmation bias, as explained above.

Isaidnoalready · 28/08/2022 22:51

Sometimes yes I knew when my exes nan passed not exactly but I woke up just after she passed away feeling so sad went in to see the children sat waiting with my phone my ex called and told me I said yes? Like I already knew

Isaidnoalready · 28/08/2022 22:52

And she wasn't actually ill she had a minor op and was due to be discharged that day no reason for her death but old age

Rowen32 · 28/08/2022 22:52

Yes - it's too painful to go into the details (think accident/tragedy/death) - definitely not confirmation bias but a horrendous experience - has happened multiple times..

Cheeselog · 28/08/2022 22:52

I don’t believe in them personally. Once I had a feeling that my friend would break her leg and she did. But it’s a confirmation bias, I don’t remember all the feelings I had that didn’t come true.

Galaxyinmypocket · 28/08/2022 22:54

I've had a random thought pop into my head or a dream about someone and then seen them the following day, I'm talking about totally random people that I've not seen or heard of since school or previous job (ie, not someone I see regularly).

I have had lots of premonition type dreams and really strange coincidences occur.

Rowen32 · 28/08/2022 22:55

Confirmation bias is the tendency to process information by looking for, or interpreting, information that is consistent with one's existing beliefs - premonitions are different..

Dotcheck · 28/08/2022 22:55

It’s not confirmation bias.

I always knew I would move from my home country, and I did

earsup · 28/08/2022 22:57

not sure but a few years ago i was on the bus going to the lock up to move the camper van inside.....something just told me....its not going to be there....its gone....And it had been stolen....!!!

Yes! Thank you! Premonitions are totally different! It's waking up one day and just knowing something will happen and it does!

Indeed. It's almost like interpreting something happening correlates with your belief in premonitions is confirmation bias.....

It’s not confirmation bias.

I always knew I would move from my home country, and I did

You either put yourself into a position where the opportunity to move abroad was an option (i.e. a type of work, education etc) or you took advantage of that opportunity to move. Even if your parents moved you abroad as a child, it was something that was possible for your family.

That's not a premonition.

katesbushh · 28/08/2022 23:00

I once had a premonition of a major event (not a good one) a couple of days before it happened and can't explain why or how.

Spoonfulofvodka · 28/08/2022 23:01

@GetOffTheRoof ... no, this isn't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about walking out the front door... thinking "a bird will poop on my head in a minute" and it does. Different to confirmation bias, a premonition.

OP posts:
Spoonfulofvodka · 28/08/2022 23:02

@GetOffTheRoof - the move from the different country is conformation bias, yes!

OP posts:
Spoonfulofvodka · 28/08/2022 23:03

*confirmation - spell check fail!

hashbrownsandwich · 28/08/2022 23:05

Yep, happens all the time.

That doesn't even make sense!

Somethingsnappy · 28/08/2022 23:15

I've had dreams that have come true. No major events, just small insignificant, but oddly specific things. For example, I had a dream once that I was holding a bird cupped in my hands, and it took off and flew away. It felt beautiful and was a vivid dream, and I told my flatmate about it. That day, I was walking along the pavement and saw a dead bird on the side. A tiny movement of its feet caught my eye as I went past and I realised it was alive. I picked it up and held it in my hands, and the warmth must have revived it from being stunned perhaps. It took off from my hands.

It was such a strange experience.
