To think that premonitions are a thing?

Are premonitions a thing? Have you ever just knew something was going to happen and it did! Like, you knew you would marry a doctor and you did or you knew you were going to get a parking ticket that day and you did... that sort of thing. Does it happen?

I'm sorry about your mum. I don't understand how this is a premonition. Your mum didn't like the spot where her parents were buried, and your father understandably thought she be buried there in the family plot, but because she didn't like it you buried her somewhere else.

Yeah I was struggling with this one, that’s not a premonition - just a series of events

Just remembered another strange one …

a few weeks ago I randomly started thinking about a bloke I used to talk to at a dog training school 3 years ago. We both left at the same time after a falling out with the owners but we hadn’t spoke since. I was wondering how he was and how the dog was. That same night I got a Facebook message off him completely out of the blue. After 3 years of no contact.

If given enough chances something will eventually occur. If for example there were an infinite number of universes, then everything that could possibly happen would happen. So there might be a universe out there where everything is identical to this one, except we end sentences with a comma instead of a full stop.

Lots of people have premonitions of winning the lottery. A few of them do win the lottery therefore confirm their belief that their premonition was valid. But all the people who have the same premonition but don't win the lottery are ignored - at most, it's just that it hasn't happened to them yet.

Where I think "premonitions" have some validity is where someone has a premonition based on evidence they actually know. You might predict how a storyline will work out in Eastenders, not through any magic foresight but through a lifetime of watching soap operas and the unconscious knowledge of how script writers operate. You might think of an episode of "The Simpsons" and find it's on Channel 4 that evening, not because it's a premonition but because you watched the first few series back in the 1990s and subconsciously remember the order of the episodes; marry up this information with the vague memory that a few weeks ago another particular episode was broadcast and the knowledge they show one episode per day, probably in order, and your brain does the rest.

Of course the fact there is not currently any scientific evidence for something doesn't mean such evidence doesn't exist. Our understanding of time is limited to what we can observe, if it were true that time was a dimension in the same way space is it might be possible for there to be movement back and forth.

Some people believe ghosts exist as echoes of the past. If you believed this, it's no more of a stretch to believe that their could equally be echoes from the future.

2 days before diana, died i had the weirdest vivid dream that she was going to die and kept watching the news

on Sat urday while cleaning the oven, I thought to myself, this glass is going to shatter, 5 mins later with my back to the oven, the glass shattered

I've definitely had a couple of premonitions. The most clear one was a very vivid dream about being in a particular and rather unusual house, including the view from the bedroom window - It was so vivid that I mentioned it to DH and we discussed how odd it was as I had no ideas who's house it was, and couldn't recall ever being there. Fast forward in time and it turns out that the house was the one that we would go on to buy and raise our kids in. It felt very familiar to me as soon as I walked in, and then once we went upstairs and looked out of the window it was very clear that it was the same view and the same house.

Writing this as an atheist and none woo person.

In Jan 2016 we were at a party and I couldn't shake a horrible feeling, I was crying (completely abnormal for me) because I had such a strong feeling of impending doom. I just knew what was going to happen.

I actually told dh about it on the night as I felt crazy and was obviously distressed.

Everything I'd felt and discussed with dh happened.

Had a few things similar before that and afterwards. But not of the same magnitude.

It has happened a few times but generally always small and insignificant.

I went to school with a girl who went on to have 2 kids and we were FB friends. She lives in a different country to me and I never saw her or knew much about her. I was ttc at the time and getting to the stage where other women getting pregnant upset me a bit

One day I went to click on my Facebook icon and suddenly thought 'how will I feel if Old Friend has just had a third baby?' When I opened it up, there was a picture of Old Friend holding a baby with a birth announcement. I didn't even know she was pregnant.

Last year I dreamt all about a bracelet I used to have. I thought about it all day as the dream was very vivid. That evening I went to check the postbox at the bottom of our block of flats. There was a package for my husband. I was so surprised when he opened it, as inside was a man bracelet that my husband had bought for himself but never told me about.

Once I had a dream that a little boy in my class was actually cloned or had a twin. I remember looking at the one on the left and then the one on the right. I was very conscious of their position, left and right. The next day, the boys horrible father turned up at my classroom complaining that his son was writing with his left hand and I needed to correct this. Turns out he was very abusive and the mum and children did a runner to get away from him.

I had a dream where my brother, who was then 25 had a full head of white hair. I told my mum who said that my dad had made a comment the day before that my brother was so stressed 'that his hair would be turning white soon'.

I had the weirdest dream, full of symbolism and analogies that I wrote down after I had it on 31st September 2019. One day a few months later it suddenly struck it had been about the pandemic. The dream contained a scene were people had to stop going to places and doing activities and there was even a big city that I didn't recognise but I knew it was Asian, something like Hong Kong. Later realised it was Wuhan, that I'd never heard of before.

I've so many more.
