Cash?

To think that companies and shops should really be accepting cash again now?
I know that during the last few years, people were being encouraged to use contactless payments “where possible” officially to reduce germ carrying on cash, but NOW with no Covid restrictions and the cost of living soaring, I think that more and more people will WANT to return to paying cash for various purchases (makes budgeting simpler) and it seems bizarre to me that some places are still refusing to accept cash payments.
I, for one, don’t want to live in a cashless society, where every penny that I have can be tracked, traced and taxed. I want to be able to sell an old piece of furniture, without that being questioned and taken as “income”. I want to be able to give my children/ grandchildren coins to put in their money box.

Sainsburys near my work couldn’t accept any card or phone payments last Friday, cash only and it caused fucking mayhem!
Staff were directing people to use the cash machine outside (singular as they removed the other 2 last year as thought cash was on the decline 😆)
There were nearly fights breaking out and loads of people walked away from full trolleys, it was pretty surreal but reinforces why we need cash to continue.

I don't think people realise that a business can't "just take cash"
Theres-
A need to have a float.
A till that takes cash.
A safe and a secure room to count/sort cash in.
Someone needs to spend time counting and checking the cash regularly (twice daily usually) also keeping records.
Someone needs to either take the cash to tha bank/collect change regularly taking time and a risk to themselves or pay a service to do so.
Risk of theft by staff or a robbery.
For a small new business setting up I can see why the setup for cards as opposed to cash too is seen as a better option.
I don't want cash to disappear but tbh I only use cash when buying and selling on eBay/marketplace storage I'm probably not the best advocate!

Those banging on about "government control" of cashless payments. Firstly unless you keep all your money in cash under your matress you still need a bank accouut so subject to the same regulatory rules as any bank account. Secondly government controls the value of caah as currency. Without the backing of the central bank, cash is just worthless bits of paper and base metal.

Use cash for budgeting and reasons but not tin foil hatted "freesdom" issues or indeed tax dodging.
