Or is behaviour at all inclusive hotels hilarious?

So in the last 2 months, I've been to Dubai, Cyprus and Jamaica, and now I'm in Greece, and 3/4 of those have been all inclusive hotels.

I've got to admit, and I'm as guilty as any, but it's so weird just observing behaviour at all inclusive hotels!

Getting up and starting to drink cheap and sugary cocktails straight away!

Piling 3 plates full at the buffets.

Getting up for 6.30am to nab a subbed before they all run out.

There are probably so many more but I'm just sat at breakfast, after going to get a second full breakfast (though I've had a gastric bypass so it is all relative) and it's made me chuckle.

I'd love to read any other weird behaviours typical of all inclusive holidays!

This is LIGHT HEARTED for those who soon enough will tell me I'm judgemental haha.

Plus I don't really drink at home but am here but they give you it in little plastic cups so no chance of getting pissed. The plastic cup usage bothers me though.

Lots of places don't like using proper glasses around pools for obvious reasons. The place we were at recently had bought these really sturdy plastic beaker type glasses and were washing them as any other glasses. In the evening when the pool was shut, they used glass glasses.

And no straws. It makes business sense for them too - probably costs less to buy sturdy plastic glasses which last a year than boxes of disposable and pay to get rid of them too.

Agree that the booze is not strong but then again we didn't see anyone getting smashed. I did like the cava, and they had a soft drink dispenser with fanta limon which I think I drank gallons of.33

Im impressed with your holidaying ability - 4 holidays in 2 months is cracking on with it...!

She didn’t say 4 holidays. I used to travel a lot for work. Like every week for years.

HandbagsnGladrags · 27/08/2022 11:50

I'll have had five this year. Three down, two to go 😎

It sounds like an absolute nightmare. But I am a raging snob.

Same here.

Oh my, you're one of those travel "influencers" aren't you....

Eek...

She says not, but I think possibly a travel journalist or something similar. It just sounds all too fake, laughing at those stealing sunbeds early in the morning, drinking early, multiple breakfasts, then admitting they do the same and are looking for more experiences of odd behaviour in a AI holiday.

Oddest thing I found was having multiple breakfasts after having had a gastric bypass. Don't think that's the point of having one of them is it? Going to make the surgery kind of redundant eventually.

I’m shocked at how many flights tbh, that’s tonnes of carbon emissions right there. And no, I haven’t taken a flight in 5 years (although I can easily afford to) and our car is an EV. Shocking how some people still don’t get it…

Lol theres always one

Nobody gives a fuck what you do.

Phrenologistsfinger · 27/08/2022 11:52

Also, AI does not sound like my idea of fun. It doesn’t need to be expensive but self-catering is always better.

HappyBinosaur · 27/08/2022 11:52

@Agrudge people have admitted they are being snobby so it’s not just my perception. MN is snobby about AI holidays and it’s disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

And ‘enjoying nicer things’ is subjective. My dc think that staying at a huge water park is the nicest thing ever! Our holidays are very nice in many ways (we haven’t stayed in any crap hotels!) but we can’t afford to stay in high end places so it’s not just about preference, it’s about what is realistic.
Being able to enjoy ‘nicer things’ is a privilege of those with more money.

You are going to the wrong type of
all inclusive hotels.

The ones I go to people don’t do that at all. Maybe try a better hotel next time.

Totally agree !!! Try Ikos .

Phrenologistsfinger · 27/08/2022 11:53

@Agrudge I’m not the first and also we should all give a fvck unless you enjoy living in 50c temperatures and having no food, no water and war.

ivykaty44 · 27/08/2022 11:54

This is my very limited experience of AI - really nice hotel with none of the listed problems, but some people who’d almost made a career out of returning to the same hotels and making a Facebook group for my them. Which wasn’t a problem, just something you could notice. Very useful Facebook groups I admit!

I never knew this was a thing until I was o the plane to Cape Verde all inclusive, the lady on the next seat told me all about the hotel etc tips and tricks she had got from the Facebook page! It was so handy

I love the fact you can pay for an all inclusive and go away and not take any money with you, I know exactly how much im going to spend and not take any cash.

I enjoy a week of doing nothing but chilling by a pool and reading

everything is done for me

I don't go on excursions if I can help it, rarely go out of the hotel

ivykaty44 · 27/08/2022 11:56

@Phrenologistsfinger.get a bike and stop polluting the atmosphere with your car

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 08:42

@SurpriseSurprise haha oh honestly I have no need to be stealthy... I do see your point though!

this is a handful of my travels this year and I am aware I'm very lucky to be able to travel as much as I am currently.

I don't think the type of no effort, tourist trap , all inclusive type of holiday you're describing is "traveling".

jays · 27/08/2022 11:59

buying chips to sit at the pool at 10am. I think it’s hilarious when you’re lying on a lounger and you can smell chips being cooked at breakfast time. And there’s a queue for them! Then I start wanting them too!

Justine878 · 27/08/2022 12:00

Definition of travelling

the action or activity of going from one place to another, typically over a distance of some length:

I think AI holidays come under that!

LuckySantangelo35 · 27/08/2022 12:02

and many people would not take a job that required frequent flying

I would! I’d love it!

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 27/08/2022 12:02

The split between ‘people who do AI and those who don’t’ that some posters are convinced exists is simply false

I'd sooner go to work than go on an AI holiday , especially one in Dubai.

Blossomtoes · 27/08/2022 12:04

Ponoka7 · 27/08/2022 07:45

Also the sunbed thing happens even in none AI, expensive hotels. Didn't the Germans start it back in the 70's?

It doesn’t because the pool staff don’t allow it in good hotels. After reading this I know I’ve been totally right in never, ever contemplating AI.

are you really happy to die having not seen any of the world bar the country you live in?!

Nope, I would never do self catering. I want a holiday from all that.
Someone else to shop, prepare, cook, serve, wash up, clear away, wipe, hoover and dust. That's what I pay for!
