Or is behaviour at all inclusive hotels hilarious?

So in the last 2 months, I've been to Dubai, Cyprus and Jamaica, and now I'm in Greece, and 3/4 of those have been all inclusive hotels.

I've got to admit, and I'm as guilty as any, but it's so weird just observing behaviour at all inclusive hotels!

Getting up and starting to drink cheap and sugary cocktails straight away!

Piling 3 plates full at the buffets.

Getting up for 6.30am to nab a subbed before they all run out.

There are probably so many more but I'm just sat at breakfast, after going to get a second full breakfast (though I've had a gastric bypass so it is all relative) and it's made me chuckle.

I'd love to read any other weird behaviours typical of all inclusive holidays!

This is LIGHT HEARTED for those who soon enough will tell me I'm judgemental haha.

gosh I so wish I was as well travelled as you. I just wish I wish I wish

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 07:39

To be fair, I'm here in Greece with work!

People coming back from the buffet, eating their food whilst they walk to their table

Pacca · 27/08/2022 07:41

It sounds like an absolute nightmare. But I am a raging snob.

Ponoka7 · 27/08/2022 07:44

I do day drinking on AI. The sun is over the yard arm somewhere. One time in Morocco the day wine wasn't great, but if you mixed the white and rose, it was quite nice. So I used to get one of each and pick up a lemonade glass to mix them in.
The only behaviour I don't like is when people pile pates and don't eat it. It tends to be Russians and the Eastern Europeans who do that. As a Brit we've always had good feed back because we are polite and know how to smile.

Gloooooo · 27/08/2022 07:44

Just back from an AI in Greece and everyone was boringly normal. No sun lounger wars, no excessive drunkenness, some over piling of plates but even that was boringly moderate. There were some regulars being a bit “I know everyone and everything and want to be seen as Queen Bee” but that was it.

I hate AI though. I go with family who have done it for years but it’s so boring and repetitive each day and so removed from the cultures you are visiting.

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 07:44

Oh yes haha this place is the definition of a luxury hotel, very well known for being super fancy haha.

One chap has just stuck his hand in the dried apricots and ate them whilst waiting for juice Confused

chillipenguin · 27/08/2022 07:44

Sounds gross

Ponoka7 · 27/08/2022 07:45

Also the sunbed thing happens even in none AI, expensive hotels. Didn't the Germans start it back in the 70's?

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 07:46

@Gloooooo I know right. Sounds like the AI I'm in at the moment- very normal in terms of sunbeds etc!

I'm big on culture so make an effort to leave the hotels as much as I can! I chose all inclusive to Jamaica as I'm gay and felt like it would be a better option given how homophobic the country is meant to be!

"One chap has just stuck his hand in the dried apricots and ate them whilst waiting for juice"

You should have reported it. I've never stayed in a AI were that would have been allowed. The only time I've seen that was during the Spanish bank holidays, in Spain from Spaniards.

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 07:47

@Ponoka7 no idea but honestly, we took my step son to Cyprus just as a cheap need some sun type of place and everyone started rushing out for bed la at 6am! It creates a never ending circle as of you don't do it then there are none left!

The place I'm currently in removes stuff from sun beds if it has been left unattended for 20 mins!

@Ponoka7 the lady behind the counter saw and removed the tub so that's something at least!

Bad manners, weird!

Northernsoullover · 27/08/2022 07:50

I've just been on an AI holiday in Spain (although I chose half board because I don't drink alcohol) very mixed nationalities. There was no drunkenness and whatever time of day you went to the pool you'd get a sunbed.

EggbertHeartsTina · 27/08/2022 07:51

Taking ziploc bags and stuffing them with breakfast things (granola, pastries) for later in the day. My SIL. Although I followed suit eventually 😳

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 07:53

@Northernsoullover I think the Jamaican holiday I saw the most drunkenness - I don't drink and the bar staff were always very surprised when I said no rum thank you!

@EggbertHeartsTina hahaha brilliant

I’m sure they’re equally judgemental of your carbon footprint ✈️

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 08:01

@Harridan1981 there we go...

I did say that a) I'm as guilty as any and b) I wasn't judging

And yes, perhaps! So you don't drive or go on planes and you live totally neutrally? Okay :)

You are going to the wrong type of
all inclusive hotels.

The ones I go to people don’t do that at all. Maybe try a better hotel next time.

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/08/2022 08:01

I've never done any of those things and nearly always go AI

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 27/08/2022 08:03

I've done AL about 6x and nobody ever did that with the loungers as they had plenty. Plus I always go as far away from people as possible so we always found little nooks.

I don't drink anymore but I did used to enjoy some beers in the afternoon by the pool, but then I didn't really drink at night. Having a beer at 2pm felt more like "holiday" somehow!

How do you k ow which are the better ones? I'm considering my first AI next year and some of the behaviour described above and by a mate of mine is awful.

Sellorkeep · 27/08/2022 08:04

go you with your non-judgy people watching.

inaminute23 · 27/08/2022 08:04

To be fair the Cyprus holiday was the sun lounger issue, it drove us mad! The other places there wasn't as much of an issue with sun beds although here in Greece people do put their stuff on about 6 at a time and hope the pool attendants don't notice haha

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 27/08/2022 08:05

I've always gone to "nice" AL. Price is a big factor, I look for ones which have secluded areas too, plus I read page after page of reviews and get a feel that way. See what people complain about!
