To love crows

Frivolous thread.

Sick of doom and gloom.

I absolutely love crows . All corvids really but crows are just ace .

I love the way they stand in the road like "come on then car ....come and have a go if you think you're hard enough "

I love their attitude. I love how they walk .

I'd love to find a baby crow or a raven that needed rearing . They're just so hard !
Recently saw a you tube video of. Crow that fed a mouse that was trying it's luck with a bread bun the crow had ....crow broke a bit off and took it to the mouse .
That is one intelligent bird . I love them.

We have about 45-50 of them that come to the gardens in my little street (as we all feed the birds in this wee cul de sac,) and they're noisy buggars!!! But adorable, and we love them. YANBU! (We get sparrows, starlings, robins, magpies, rooks, pigeons, and a few other types of birds too!) They're lovely. Smile

@stillvicarinatutu i completely agree with you!

Allow me to introduce you to my pet crow, Jasper! He’s amazing (well, I say it’s a ‘he’ but not really sure). He’s totally bonkers but I love him. He allows me to feed him, pet him, hold him and he is always following me around!

Is Jasper multi-coloured or are those juvenile feathers?

Somanycuddlybears · 26/08/2022 22:28

I read Ted Hughes’ Crow for A level 25 years ago.

Still don’t get it.

Still not keen on crows.

malificent7 · 26/08/2022 22:48

I went to a festival once where a man in a teepee had adopted a crow...or the crow had adopted him! It was such a mystical, magical pairing...like another world.

DeanStockwelll · 26/08/2022 23:18

I think Alfred Hitchcock might have been on to something with the birds they are extremely intelligent and very clever

Wee orphaned baby crow getting spoon-feed cat food by his human foster momma.

Oh good lord !

😂

Mnhq we now need a crow / rook emoji please

DiscoBiscuits · 26/08/2022 23:25

I have found my people.
I adore all Corvids, but especially crows. They are nuff tuff.
My fav fictional depiction of them was in the new Mackenzie Crook version of Wurzel Gummidge. The crows in it tried to negotiate their way into getting a machine gun.
I really think they absolutely would have a go at that if they could.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/08/2022 23:25

Said this just this evening! Watching a French drama, Black Spot, atm. Someone said something disparaging about the crows outside of their window and I told them off.
they’re such smart (not to mention beautiful) creatures.

Phoenix76 · 26/08/2022 23:25

Thank you for this thread op, fellow corvid lover here, even wear blinking t-shirts and bracelets with their images, something about them!

Only thing is it wasn't orphaned - baby crows end up on the ground as normal to protect them from predators. So really it should say 'Kidnapped Baby Crow Fed By It's Kidnapper'

GertrudeKerfuffle · 26/08/2022 23:34

I'm a corvid admirer too! This is a great story from a few years back:

I love corvids. We’ve had a nest used by magpies in our garden for many years. Whilst the individual birds have varied in temperament (some are more sociable, others wary), it’s always lovely to watch their characters develop. This was our most successful year for sometime, 5 young magpies fledged and the noise meant sleep was near impossible!

SudocremOnEverything · 26/08/2022 23:55

Apparently crows can hold a grudge for a decade. You don’t want to piss one off.

stillvicarinatutu · 27/08/2022 03:28

I never dare piss a crow off . 😂

Still love em.

@Butchyrestingface he is a Juvenile. He was found on the ground after falling from his nest. So we adopted him. We’ve had him for over a month now 😁

balalake · 27/08/2022 10:12

Like Magpies more, myself. Love the opportunity to walk locally and see them, crows and all other birds.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/08/2022 10:17

We have a family of 4 visiting regularly ATM - parents and 2 crow sprogs. If I chuck anything like stale bread, bacon fat etc. on the lawn they will usually be there even before I’m back in the kitchen. Anything really dry like bread crusts will be taken to one of our 3 bird baths for a good soaking - can always tell afterwards because of crumbs in the water.

DeanStockwelll · 27/08/2022 12:14

@Leafy3 Thank you for the link , I ( and I suspect many others ) did not know it would be normal for young crows to be on the ground for so long

IcakethereforeIam · 27/08/2022 12:27

Is Jasper a hoodie? I only recently learned they'd been granted full species status. I think carrion crow could do with a rebrand, though having creatures to clean up corpses is absolutely essential. I believe in areas where vulture populations have crashed, there's been massive increases in feral dogs, and then dog attacks and rabies.

uhtredbebbanburg · 27/08/2022 12:42

I’m currently reading Bellman and Black. I’m in the middle so no spoilers please but it’s about a vengeful crow (I think). It’s quite good and keeping me engaged!
