To love crows

Frivolous thread.

Sick of doom and gloom.

I absolutely love crows . All corvids really but crows are just ace .

I love the way they stand in the road like "come on then car ....come and have a go if you think you're hard enough "

I love their attitude. I love how they walk .

I'd love to find a baby crow or a raven that needed rearing . They're just so hard !
Recently saw a you tube video of. Crow that fed a mouse that was trying it's luck with a bread bun the crow had ....crow broke a bit off and took it to the mouse .
That is one intelligent bird . I love them.

I recall seeing a big fat cat being teased by three crows. They were perched on top of a railway bridge. One jumped onto the road, close to the cat and as he approached , said crow jumped onto the bridge parapet. Second crow did the same. Cats tail swishing, punched on the road and crow flew onto the bridge again. The edge of the parapet was very narrow and the cat quite heavy looking. He would have been very lucky to have kept his balance on the parapet had he jumped. A murder indeed.

I’ve hand reared some orphaned crows, they are as clever as parrots and I loved them.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 26/08/2022 07:59

They are amazing and they say a crow never forgets. If you get one you could walk down the high street or village with a little lead on the crow ha!! That is soo sweet that they go back to visit their crow parents.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 26/08/2022 08:00

My son teases me about being a crow as I have jet black hair...

MotherofPearl · 26/08/2022 08:11

I'd read about the crows who use traffic to crack nuts - thanks for posting the video, they're amazing.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/08/2022 12:45

Some corvids can mimic speech. The singing part of the way through is quite eerie. Imagine hearing that and not realising it was the raven singing.

hangrylady · 26/08/2022 12:50

I find them terrifying. Far too intelligent!

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/08/2022 13:09

You all need to get down/up to Cheshire. Not only do we have a smiling cat, cheese, many Morris Dancers, we also have

MarsupiIami · 26/08/2022 13:12

We have 20+ in the back garden regularly. They’re great but that many can be a bit unsettling! You can throw out half a loaf of bread and walk away, if you turn back it’s already all gone. 😂

MarsupiIami · 26/08/2022 13:14

Catluminati sometimes shows the crow man, he rides a bike with crows flying around him. It’s awesome.

10HailMarys · 26/08/2022 13:15

I love all birds but especially corvids. Crows, ravens and jackdaws are the absolute best. They're so clever and so entertaining. They've got so much character.

BeenHereForYonkyDoodles · 26/08/2022 14:10

Crows are amaxing! We had a pair nest in a tall tree our garden each year. They are incredible parents. Last year a chick fell from the nest and ended up at the bottom, we werent sure whether to intervene but they warned us off everytime we went out, kept other birds away & took turns to keep watch & feed him the whole time he was there. He eventually fledged happily with the rest.
They didn't come back this year tho. We've missed them but hoping they found a more secure tree.

BeenHereForYonkyDoodles · 26/08/2022 14:11

Excuse typos!

Badhairday101 · 26/08/2022 14:14

I love magpies and people never understand why. I think they’ve got great personalities and very clever. They do steal other birds babies but I think that’s maybe just the way it is in the bird world.

A magpie clearly wrote this.

abovedecknotbelow · 26/08/2022 14:20

They certainly have personality - noisy fuckers though.

Leafy3 · 26/08/2022 14:42

@BeenHereForYonkyDoodles it's normal for baby crows to finish being nested on the ground, it protects them from other winged predators

Badhairday101 · 26/08/2022 14:49

@SizzlerFizzler don’t blow my cover!

Siameasy · 26/08/2022 14:57

Same, they’re fascinating

AuntMasha · 26/08/2022 14:58

Fellow Crow lover here. We have a family nearby and have observed the male and female raising their chicks. They are so loving and affectionate as parents. One of our crows has a distinctive white feather on his wing. They are remarkably intelligent and adaptable.

If you haven’t seen the amazing video of the crow using a plastic lid to snowboard down the icey roof outside an apartment in Russia, here it is:

TheDogsMother · 26/08/2022 14:59

Crows are fascinating. I was watching one on a stony beach and he was gathering bits of food, burying it then marking it with a pebble. Apparently they get their bearings and they can find the exact stone on a beach full of stones. Thugs too though. I've seen them 'mocking. Red Kites and Buzzards that are in the air. The magpies always look so shifty and when I put bread out they will come and stuff their beaks until they can't fit any more in.

BrokeAsABone · 26/08/2022 15:03

I love them too. I have a rookery next to me and I feed them every day. Must have about 200 now as they told all their cousins, aunts and uncles about me. I also have jackdaws, magpies and starlings as well as a myriad of songbirds. But the rooks are my favourite. They call to me when they see me in the garden...Feed us, feed us!

evilharpy · 26/08/2022 15:08

We saw a falconry display at a vintage fair and went to look afterwards at where the birds were resting. There were the usual big buzzard type things, couple of owls, and a raven in a cage. They were all just chilling out apart from the raven who was calmly and methodically trying all the hinges and little bits of rope to see if it could find a way out. It was so obviously streets ahead of the others in terms of intelligence.

I also had no idea till recently that corvids can talk, not like parrots but with the actual voice of the person they're imitating. This video is pretty amazing, especially her reaction to a cock crowing at 5:06.

Maisa45 · 26/08/2022 15:09

I absolutely love them. Beautiful intelligent birds and I live for their little sideways hops.

snowqu33n · 26/08/2022 15:14

Have seen the crows getting cars to crack nuts near here. I have also had a crow grab my ponytail with its feet when I was cycling in a park and got too close to their nest during fledglings season.
I nearly crashed my bicycle but I understood why it happened and still enjoy watching them hopping around.
They’re more common than either seagulls or pigeons where we are.
