Don't understand fashion/ cosmetic trends

AIBU to think the big thick dark eyebrows and lip injections (that look like duck lips) just looks awful on everyone who has it? I don't understand why you would pay good money to look like that?
Also the trend of guys getting what looks like a poddle perm on top of their head - it just looks silly.
AIBU or am I just to old to understand why it looks good?

You don’t think there’s a difference between naturally plump lips and cosmetically-enhanced lips? My lips are very plump, but there’s no way anyone would mistake them for injected lips.
The injected lips look very different to natural ones

CourtneeLuv · 25/08/2022 14:26

Of course it looks good, just look at Becky Jo vm.tiktok.com/ZMN7sV79h/

brob · 25/08/2022 14:26

and my lips are also naturally plump. Nice to know old farts like you think I look ridiculous

How did you extrapolate that? I have very full lips but like everyone I know with natural ones they don't look anything like fillers. But then I also have large boobs but think bolt ons look dreadful 🤷🏻‍♀️

ReneBumsWombats · 25/08/2022 14:31

Hurrah!

Is this Vicky Pollard for the new generation?

MichaelAndEagle · 25/08/2022 14:33

I've seen a fair few mullets on the young and trendy round here. Definitely back.

Justcallmebebes · 25/08/2022 14:33

Just done a very quick office poll of 12 people and it's unanimous - we all agree with you OP and nobody is older than 32 (apart from me)

NovaDeltas · 25/08/2022 14:34

Maybe stop staring at 14 year old boys and trying to figure out fashion? If it's so perplexing, probably best to mind your own.

BerryBerryBerryBerry · 25/08/2022 14:36

If it makes you feel better about yourself, slag other people off as much as you need to. Or just get some self esteem.

DougalsBlueJumper · 25/08/2022 14:37

I agree tbh, but I am definitely old! When I look back at photos of myself from the 1980s, I had giant back combed hair, big stripes of dark blusher and red lipstick that was so bright, it seemed to dance around my face like an optical illusion. I was a walking, talking 80s cliche - but I thought I was sooo edgy. My eyebrows back then were naturally very thick and dark. Were they fashionable? No they were not. Did I pluck them to buggery? I most certainly did.

So, while I have my opinions on slug eyebrows and sausage lips, it is with the full understanding that it's up to those people what they do with their own faces. I don't have to like it. One of my nieces has a bit of the eyebrow thing going, but I keep my opinion to myself.

she's not on about you though she's on about the specific love island look that's looks quite painful.

to follow the thread I've always had the se style. I like the China doll look. patterns blouses with dungaree dresses. so cute but I'm afraid I will be too old for th soon. 😔

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 25/08/2022 14:43

Yeah you're old x

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 25/08/2022 14:44

The worst look is those very heavy false Russian lashes, usually perched on top of a face with no make up, so they just look completely out of kilter with the rest of the person's look. How they manage to blink is absolutely beyond me.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 25/08/2022 14:47

I have no qualms about ridiculous fashion trends changing but when young women in their 20's are injecting themselves full of shit that's quite different.

10HailMarys · 25/08/2022 15:09

It has absolutely no impact on you whatsoever. You don't have to understand it. It's not for you. Worry about your own face and leave other people to worry about theirs.

AnnaFri · 25/08/2022 15:10

How old are you OP?

As I'm betting my bottom dollar that's the issue at play here

Charlize43 · 25/08/2022 15:12

Do you have any pictures of the poodle perm on top as I don't think I've seen those.

My grandma had 1940/50s drawn on eyebrows and they looked good on her. It's just a fashion that has returned.

I think both the drawn on eyebrows and lip filler is small doses could work but it's easy for people to get carried away and end up looking like cartoons.

10HailMarys · 25/08/2022 15:13

The injected lips look very different to natural ones

It's actually just that you only notice the ones that look different.

I guarantee you that a lot of the lips you see that you think are natural have actually got fillers in them. Same with Botox. Same with Botox. People think they can always spot Botox but they really can't - they can spot bad Botox.

brob · 25/08/2022 15:14

It has absolutely no impact on you whatsoever. You don't have to understand it. It's not for you.

I think it's more nuanced than that. I have dc & work with dc & saying the culture of plastic surgery has no impact is wrong.

RestingMurderousFace · 25/08/2022 15:16

Yeah, you're an old fart. You are also absolutely correct, it's a ridiculous looking trend.

InPraiseOfBacchus · 25/08/2022 15:16

"I just don't UNDERSTAND the [anything considered new, trendy or frivolous, usually associated with young women]" is such a weird, wilfully obtuse, and totally obvious virtue-signal.

Yep, you're so wonderful, classy and smart that things like this don't even make sense to your esteemed mind.

Of course you "understand" it. You just don't like it. Fine, but own it.

Charlize43 · 25/08/2022 15:16

I assume you mean looking dramatic like this...

Don't understand fashion/ cosmetic trends
inmyslippers · 25/08/2022 15:17

And some people naturally have these features

InPraiseOfBacchus · 25/08/2022 15:20

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 25/08/2022 14:47

I have no qualms about ridiculous fashion trends changing but when young women in their 20's are injecting themselves full of shit that's quite different.

Women in the 1900s used to get botch-y liquid nose jobs with paraffin.

Yes, things can be problematic but to frame everything as a New Emerging Threat is sensationalist.

SandieCollins · 25/08/2022 15:22

They really don’t, not in the way that they look with plastic surgery.

Thats why people tried to emulate them initially because they’re beautiful but plastic surgery has taken it to a whole other level and it’s that which looks daft (in my opinion) and painful (also in my opinion). You can the difference
