Literally penny pinching - need prices from Lidl

I tried to get to Lidl today but the bus decided not to run. 😏And the arseholes are going on strike too I believe. Wonderful.

I pay for a Tesco delivery subscription as I don't drive but I'm actually down to pennies these days.
Can anyone tell me the price of the following three items from Lidl (I don't have Aldi near so I don't need those prices).
Iceberg lettuce
Cucumber
Stewing beef (lean diced beef) - I've 600g in basket (£10.50/kilo)

I used to know the price of everything but my memory is shot and now everything is jumping extortionately and I know that the next thing to go will be my will to live lol.
The tesco delivery is tomorrow so I only have 2 hours to decide before it's locked in and when it's pennies for heating for the winter or a penny here or there to a company, I no longer have the luxury.
Jesus Christ, but this is awful.

I'm so sorry OP that people are being so damn judgemental about you smoking. The recent flip of people going from " Just Be Nice" to judgemental arseoles is shocking. I bet every single person that has commented negatively, ESPECIALLY after you said you didn't come here for judgement, was stood at the windows curtain twitching in lock down when pepper left the house. Seething when the neighbour at 47 didn't come out to clap AND THEY HAD TWO WALKS THAT DAY!

I had a lot of sympathy for you until I realised you were spending more than your weekly budget for food on fags! 😮 Fags will kill you, malnutrition will also kill you. Just saying.

You need some cheese in your salad sandwich - iceberg, cheese and salad cream. No butter.

I know it’s probably too late and you’ve had to choose whether to stick with Tesco or not but I find Asda a bit cheaper than Tesco and definitely had more stuff available than Lidl. So maybe have a peruse if there is one that delivers to you?

how Are you paying full price for tobacco op??!! Tobacco is like dominos pizza, nobody pays full whack surely!!! I pay £18 for 50g amber leaf and that’s top end, usually between £ 11-13. Go to your local foreign shop, try not to look like customs😁 and ask if they’ve “got anything cheaper” . Ask on Facebook if anyone’s got any duty free 👍 shouldn’t be paying full price !

I don’t know what I’m reading here 😂Broccoli and spinach are cheaper than beef. You can buy cheap bags of pasta and make vegetable pasta bake by chucking in a cheap own brand pasta sauce. Why not look at the Asda smart price stuff or frozen beef etc.

The bit that throws me is that you’re worried about your low iron levels and yet would rather smoke than eat!

Oh and add manners to your shopping list as guess what, they’re free.

When will people realise that smoking is an addiction, and such a hard thing to give up! I gave up about 10 years ago and it's the hardest thing I've ever done! It took me so many failed attempts to finally get there. When I was a smoker I would rather have starved than run out of fags!

Op are you hitting the £40 on tescos so that they don't add an extra amount to your basket? Or do the fags come from Tesco with your order and bump you over?

Yes, the tobacco brings the price over the £40 minimum basket charge. Every cloud and all that.

I 100% hold myself to account for the tobacco habit. It's obviously 24 a week that I could be spending on something less harmful, but I love my ciggies. Mind you, if things get as bad as I suspect this Winter, then I may be forced into action! The thoughts of that has me frantically puffing away here lol

I've heard of these fabled places but have yet to find one. Is there a secret society where I can get the low-down? Knowing my look, I'd be arrested for handling stolen goods lol

Really don't - cheap (as in under the counter) tobacco always made me end up with chest infections when i tried it.

I had a similar "I will take my tobacco TO MY GRAAAAVE' mindset as OP until I got a COPD diagnosis this summer.

Haven't RTFT but my tip is to make sure your fridge isn't too empty or full. If it's very empty, fill some of the spaces with containers of water. These will cool down and keep the cold in the fridge when you open it, rather than the cold air 'falling' out when you open. If it's too full, which I doubt, take some stuff out so it runs efficiently. Also make sure it's at the right temperature.

Oh and i don't smoke now but have chosen fags over food decades ago. I did give up so you don't have to rule it out but ignore the righteous arseholery on here about cigs.

Thanks for your recipe for the salad sandwich, OP. I'd never thought of chopping all the ingredients up, I just tend to layer them but they move about then. Chopped from this point onwards!

Just a quick thing about your iron. When mine was very low (it's apparently 'precarious'(?)), I had iron injections from the GP. It might be worth an appointment to see if you could have them? I felt lousy, the iron jabs bucked me up no end.

Lidl and Aldi prices are normally identical or almost identical so you can use the Aldi website to look stiff up.

You had my sympathy till the cigarettes…such a waste of money and horrible on your health.
