Nutella on toast is a nutritious way to start the day ??!!

AIBU to think that the Nutella ad that states that Nutella on toast is a nutritious way to start the day is a bit far fetched ? It also says that Nutella releases energy slowly making it an ideal breakfast. How can the stuff that Ferero Rochers are filled with be nutritious ? It's pure sugar and fat!!!

Honey has been proved to be better for sore throats than cough mixture. And that wasn't even Manuka honey, either.

Cam · 22/01/2008 18:50

Imum and Blu we also had that dark gooey chocolate spread. What was it called, let me think, oh I do believe it was actually called Chocolate Spread !!

Nutella is well sophisticated and exotic by comparison

Having spent lots of time in Holland I've eaten lots of it on toast along with the "sprinkles"

BlindBint · 22/01/2008 18:58

I prefer left over takeaway from the night before, reheated in the microwave.

mousemole · 23/01/2008 10:22

Isn't there a snickers spread as well ? I'm sure I've seen that but haven't dared to buy it knowing I would eat the whole lot !

There IS a snickers spread AND a milky way spread which is nice and fluffy with white and brown stripes. In Spain on holiday when I was little, we even discovered Pink chocolate spread, that was strawberry flavoured, completely natural and contained no red/pink food colouring

Eliza2 · 23/01/2008 22:07

Now someone with your name should be promoting melted Godiva chocs. on pain grille, Belgianchocolates! What WOULD they say in Brussels if they read that mention of a, splutter, snickers spread? ;)

Blu · 23/01/2008 22:42

Nutella is on special offer in Lidl next week.

sabaidii · 24/01/2008 13:29

(momentarily changing my name to Homer Simpson) Nutella? AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.....

With cream cheese though, or ricotta, not with toast.

It's a bit of a luxury now though, I can never find it anywhere in Asia.

sabaidii · 24/01/2008 13:32

Snickers and Milky Way spread? No! Stop or I'll eat the computer.

HeadHeartorHormones · 24/01/2008 13:45

Listen to you - all queuing up to bite the hand that feeds.

Fairtrade, organic, pureed hazelnut blended with ethically sourced Madagascan chocolate would of course be better.

My kids love a little Nutella stirred into porridge - is this an acceptable compromise????!

HeadHeartorHormones · 24/01/2008 13:50

Oh Cam - Yes, with you on the sprinkles. The Dutch KNOW what to put on their bread. "Chocolade Hagelslag" - the only thing I can say in Dutch (though it does sound like a character from Viz).

Fennel · 24/01/2008 13:51

I bought my children organic, Green and Black's, fairtrade chocolate spread and they don't even like it, it's going mouldy in a cupboard. They preferred the 69p Sainsbury's Value version.

Eliza2 · 24/01/2008 13:57

Have you tried using it as cake icing, Fennel?

My son was like that. The cheaper the better, as far as chocolate is concerned.

Fennel · 24/01/2008 14:08

I could do that if it's not already too mouldy.

I don't like any chocolate "products" so can't eat it up myself, only real 70% cocoa solid chocolate will do for me.

Eliza2 · 24/01/2008 15:09

No, the word 'product' is a dead giveaway, isn't it!

Cam · 24/01/2008 15:52

HH or H, yes I love those Dutch words

What about koffie mit slagroom?

Slagroom being cream of course

mousemole · 24/01/2008 17:54

the dutch language is great. I had a lovely Dutch boyfriend when I was 19 who taught me that 'Neuken in de Keuken' means doing naughty things in the kitchen. I still laugh thinking about it now !

I was aghast at this ad at well, but DP, who already has kids, says that kids need the sugar fix and that its ok as they just burn it off.
But I was more aghast at the way they were selling it as nutritious - agree with the previous poster who said it should just say "Choccy spread - its yummy!"

I remember LOVING it as a kid tho and think I would worry that once they'd tasted Nutella they wouldn't want anything else for breakfast.
I can see I am going to have to lighten up a bit...

Eliza2 · 24/01/2008 19:00

My son has Nutella on wholemeal bread for breakfast. It doesn't SEEM to have done him any harm, re. paying attention at school, not being hyper, etc. Perhaps the wholemeal bit counteracts the sugar [she says hopefully.]

belgo · 24/01/2008 19:01

sugar doesn't cause hyperactivity.

Eliza2 · 24/01/2008 20:01

Sorry, wrong use of words--I didn't mean to cause any offense!

Frankendooby · 24/01/2008 20:09

Don' think there is too much wrong with it myself.Ds has it on wholemeal bread or toast. He wasn't allowed to have it in wholemeal bread in his packed lunch...school would prefer he had white bread with processed ham or cheese!

RubberDuck · 27/02/2008 13:32

Oh look, they've been forced to stop the ads as they are misleading - what a surprise!

YANBU - Nutella does not belong on DC's toast at breakfast. It belongs in my hand, in front of the telly, with a spoon in it.
