What to do with Mein Kampf?!

My late DF was a history buff and after he died we gave a lot of his books to charity but kept a few.

Among them was an English translation of Mein Kampf. It’s a first edition from 1939.

I held on to it as a historic artefact but would now like to move it on.

I can’t sell it on Amazon or eBay as it’s banned.

So the question is: do I bin it? (YABU)
Do I donate it to a library or something? (YANBU) Where?!

Currently work in it. Far right extremism is by far the biggest threat the country and the West more generally faces in terrorism terms atm. Not suggesting no one should read it. I have, it’s dross, and with proper context historically useful to see how easily people can be manipulated by far-right firebrands with confused (not confusing, confused) and incoherent messaging. There’s much more coherent, pernicious and scary manifestos out there, all freely available online.

My problem is with OP trying to make money off it, and the incredible nativity of many people on this thread - y‘know, the kind of person whose tag on MN is ‘freedomfighters’, who probably thinks they’re edgy because they didn’t wear a mask during lockdown.

So you fabricate terrorism threats to drum up support for removing freedoms. Not buying it

🤣🤣🤣

Your post makes total sense. No really, it does! Oh wait, no, no it doesn’t. Where on earth have I advocated for removing freedoms? I just said you’d be a shitty person if you made money out of selling the incoherent ramblings of a mass murderer. I’m not sure that’s an overly controversial statement in the real world, but by god it has stirred the ire of a whole three people on mumsnet who seem to think ‘freedom’ means ‘alright with extremism’.

I am very glad I do my job and you don’t, put it that way. Honestly if you saw a fraction of the shit we deal with (protecting the public from physical harm from these people, by the way), you wouldn’t be so blasé about something as fundamental to the far right extremist cause as this fcking stupid book.

You don't seem equipped with the skills to work in any high level post in counter extremism. Full of false assumptions and personal opinions. No substance behind it.

Oh do tell me what qualifies you to make that judgment. Oh go oooon, please, I’d be genuinely thrilled to hear you had some experience in the field that you can adjudicate who is and isn’t qualified to work in counter extremism. I’ve worked on counter Daesh, counter far right, counter Kremlin, and counter Iran ops. Now you go!

You're starting to sound a bit unhinged.

I think some of these people you have worked with might have rubbed off on you a bit

I'm against the sale of Nazi memorabilia (which this book might be categorised as because of its age) because it does end up as trophies for the far Right.

However, I have doubts that anyone actually involved in counter terror/extremism would talk excitably about that on a public forum, even an anonymous one. At least I'd hope they wouldn't.

Againstmachine · 02/09/2022 09:59

Is the person above involved in counter extremism which I don't think they would talk so openly about, or are they just a member of UAF/Anita.
