How on earth can I save my feet?

Sorry to post here, extremely boring question I need answers for! I have recently bought a dog... lots of walking and no matter what I do or try my feet are covered in blisters. It's making it impossible to carry on! I wear sports socks and use plasters with shoes I've worn in... how do I stop this? I'm getting so limited on shoes I can wear. Thank you😀

What shoes are you wearing I know worn in but trainers/ walk8ng boots really shouldn’t cause this

OldTinHat · 22/08/2022 20:29

Have you tried wearing two pairs of socks? Always prevents my poor old feet getting blisters.

saveforthat · 22/08/2022 20:29

I wear walking trainers, they don't need wearing in they are really comfortable and supportive.

girlmom21 · 22/08/2022 20:30

Do you have someone who can take over the walks for a few days? You need the blisters to heal or you'll be waking funny and causing more whatever else you do.

figmaofmyimagination · 22/08/2022 20:34

I don’t know but I’m watching with interest as my feet also blister really easily no matter what i do!

Snowinsummer · 22/08/2022 20:38

Compeed plasters are really good

Leafy3 · 22/08/2022 20:38

Some people say applying deodorant will prevent blisters.

Compeed are very good.

But really you need new shoes - choose trainers, have them properly fitted.

thinkfast · 22/08/2022 20:40

I suggest going to a really good running shop and getting some properly fitted trainers. They usually check they are fitted properly, watch you walk in them before you purchase.

dribblewibble · 22/08/2022 20:43

Compared plasters, two pairs of thin socks and the anti rub spray with the silicone heel things should help.

newtb · 22/08/2022 20:46

Wear your socks inside out, so that the smoother side is against your skin.

VickyEadieofThigh · 22/08/2022 20:47

I have extremely soft, sensitive feet. If I get blisters I use Compeed plasters, which work really well.

abovedecknotbelow · 22/08/2022 20:49

What shoes are you wearing?

Somanysocks · 22/08/2022 20:53

I'm sorry I don't care about your feet but
WHERE is the picture of the new doggy?

GetOffTheRoof · 22/08/2022 20:56

What do you normally wear on your feet? Why are these ones rubbing so badly?

How old is the dog? If it's a puppy you shouldn't be walking it for hours each day.....

Ladybug9 · 22/08/2022 20:58

Thank you for your replies everyone! I'm actually so relieved that it's not as much of a ridiculous question as I thought lol. Thank you to the poster who said yo get someone to take over walks for a few days, I'll have my other half do it and get healed then try the two pairs of socks idea! I really thought a dog would keep me consistent with getting my steps in but gave no thought to blisters! I'll try compeed too. I wonder if the warmer weather hasn't helped although I have tried to walk really early and in the evening to stay out of the sun in the hottest hours so not sure what more there is to do. I'll keep you all posted

I'd get proper walking socks too if you can. Sports socks are thick but not soft like walking socks. With a thin pair under them you should see a difference

Shaaameless · 22/08/2022 21:00

Vaseline.

Usually an old pair of Under Armour trainers that have always been okay for the gym etc but admittedly never walked far in them. Dog is a 2 year old spaniel inherited from an acquaintance who was going to rehome them. He has so much energy but to be honest I'm probably not walking that much more than other dog walkers I'm just lazy so my version of lots and lots is now committing to dog walks lol

Plasters make things worse. You need compeed or blister plasters. They only have one layer and prevent rubbing.

glamourousindierockandroll · 22/08/2022 21:06

Hope this isn't stating the obvious but are you tying them tightly enough? I had a pair of walking boots that I used to wear really slack and they gave me horrible blisters one day. My DH relaced them and got me to tie them right up to the top and it was a revelation.

Intransigentcat · 22/08/2022 21:06

You could try double layer running socks.

Compeed do an anti friction salve to stop blisters. Or you could try the runners trick of KY jelly on your feet.

Definitely get your feet measured properly including the width.

cutmyteethandbitmytongue · 22/08/2022 21:09

I'm not a dog-walking shoe snob honest but if you can afford it I'd consider a good pair of waterproof walking boots and some good walking socks. Especially for winter!

Augend23 · 22/08/2022 21:12

I find gym trainers wear out pretty fast if you do a lot of miles in them anyway - would really recommend a (probably unfashionable) pair of decent walking trainers. But you do need to give your feet time to heal if you possibly can.

mawofone · 22/08/2022 21:13

Hey OP. I used to run a lot and can really recommend 1000 mile socks. They are specifically designed to minimise blisters. Also, as others have said, compeed are a godsend
