To ask if you have had 12 points on your license and if so what happened?

daysayso · 22/08/2022 11:35

I have 9 points currently, I have had a letter to say I was speeding 53 mph on a 40mph motorway temporary speed limit

Once I reach 12 points I've read it's an auto ban - unless you can prove hardship.

Has anyone got to 12 points and either successfully appealed it or got away with it and if so how?

No smart comments please these is really stressing me out

Thanks in advance

@Endlesslypatient82

only someone who doesn’t love or even have any friends in their life would have that kind of stance of

really! is this the level you've resorted to. * *cant win an argument so you start making odd statements. I pity you

This thread clearly separates the people who have seen the devastating effect of poor driving has had on their friends / relatives / loved ones and those that think that deaths by dangerous driving happens to other people with other lives and not them.

these things happen to real people with real lives just like anyone else’s. Hit someone at 30 mph chances are they will live. Hit someone at 40 and 1 in 20 live.

Exactly.

If the thread said “I’ve robbed a house and need help avoiding charges” or “I’ve just beaten up an old woman and need help destroying evidence” everyone would be up in arms.

But “I’ve driven dangerously and carelessly for many years, been caught and continued and now it’s caught up with me, please can I have hints and tips to avoid justice” everyone is like ooooh this brings out the pious people.

Happy to be pious right now 🙂

Windbeneathmybingowings · 23/08/2022 16:14

And if anything, this just highlights the need for Crims-net 🤣

Yes. The thread is horrible. I can’t believe mumsnet has let it stand.

You shouldn't be on the roads. I hope you are banned. Getting 12 points is disgraceful and irresponsible.

I can't really disagree with this. Getting 3 points is one thing,

Once you are on 9, you really should be driving everywhere like a granny.

You shouldn't get to keep your licence for hardship reasons, you should have been more careful earlier.

However, I think there's a case to be made (although it would be completely unenforceable in practice) to say that if someone pulls the hardship card they get to stay driving, but only for those journeys, so to get to and from work; or to take a disabled child to hospital appointments. But if get caught driving at any other time, they go to jail. I suppose you could pre-register a journey with the police, so if they catch you on ANPR they know you are meant to be out.

Quite fed up of MN taking threads down all the time, TBH. If you don't like, don't read.

Its hardly the same crime.

House robbery there is always a victim

Speeding rarely does

They take them down for very silly reasons usually, like OP isn’t getting the answer she wanted. But then leave ones up about how to get away with multiple speeding incidents and keep your licence. My uncle is dead because someone was speeding. 3 kids without their daddy. Many lives devastated. So I’ll stay and comment what I like.

Of course it's the same crime. People can die or suffer life changing injuries. Do you live under a rock?

Theawkwardblonde · 23/08/2022 17:04

@Agrudge speeding rarely has a victim..whilst that can be true, I work first hand in a job that deals with the devastating affects a "little speeding" can have. When there are victims, they are usually fatalities as well so that is a daft comment to make.

When you've seen people scooped out of vehicles after speeding and flying head on into innocents maybe you wouldn't be so flippant too over the effect speeding can have.

Elmore · 23/08/2022 17:06

The way U.K. courts treat honest hardworking people who have had the misfortune to be caught out by cash cams is a disgrace in my opinion.

For hardship you need to demonstrate how other people, who have done nothing wrong, would be impacted by you losing your licence

LuckySnips · 23/08/2022 17:16

Caught out doing what? Do you genuinely think that whether someone speeds or not is down to "misfortune"?

And I say this as someone who got a letter for not having quite gotten down to 30 a few metres after the sign changing the limit from 60 to 30. I grumbled a lot but ultimately I was in the wrong. If you're not willing to stick to the law on the road then do the honest thing and stop driving.

I've never seen a speed camera a "few metres" into a part of the road where the speed has changed . Its usually a good distance in

There’s a stretch of road near me that changes down from 50 to 30 - the cash cam is right next to the 30 sign m

You've probably seen my posts. I'm very much pro driving fast.

But is your not observant enough to see a bright yellow box your not observant enough to be to driving fast. That isnt aimed specifically aimed at you.

Calling them cash cams is silly . They should be called " I lack observation cameras "

Elmore · 23/08/2022 17:37

I would just rather the police focused their efforts on catching pedos and burglars than extorting money from normal citizens

It's hardly extortion. I know whenever I'm driving faster than the speed limit I am breaking the law. If I get caught so be it .

It childish to think your a victim if you've been caught going faster than you should

There was no bright yellow box in my situation, it was a man almost in a hedge. Looks like you're learning new things today!

Agrudge · 23/08/2022 19:29

It wasnt aimed you either just general statement. But I did assume it was a camera
