To ask if you have had 12 points on your license and if so what happened?

daysayso · 22/08/2022 11:35

I have 9 points currently, I have had a letter to say I was speeding 53 mph on a 40mph motorway temporary speed limit

Once I reach 12 points I've read it's an auto ban - unless you can prove hardship.

Has anyone got to 12 points and either successfully appealed it or got away with it and if so how?

No smart comments please these is really stressing me out

Thanks in advance

It could be worse. You could be facing charges of death my dangerous driving.

13mph over the limit isnt dangerous driving

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 23/08/2022 09:11

Yes op you probably are fucked. But you kind of need a ban now, you haven't learnt the other I'm assuming 3 times you were caught speeding. Are you just stupid or don't care about others? Got to be one of them. Do you not care if you hit a person, seeing their bones break and potentially die from your actions? Because you can't tell the time and were late to something?

You need to realise how stupid you've been and face the consequences of it. Learn from it, and change. Stop making excuses and saying my life is hard so it's ok. It's not ok and everyone's life is hard.

Of course it could be, depending on the circumstances.

LaQuern · 23/08/2022 09:12

My town is full of massive signs saying 'it's a speed limit, not a target'

By driving under the speed limit I am merely doing as my local police force want me to do.

For it is either not a target, or it is a target. They kinda need to make their minds up?

Yeah in certain circumstances it could be, but in others circumstances it wouldnt be.

do you have children out of interest?

That's irrelevant

It’s not because i am curious whether you drive 15 mph over the speed limit if you think the road conditions are ok with children in your car.

i am also curious about how you would feel if a driver knocked your child over and killed him/her but his argument was that he was driving 15mph over the speed limit because in all his infinite wisdom he thought the road conditions were appropriate for it

Agrudge · 23/08/2022 09:28

I would happily do 85mph on the motorway with kids in the car if the conditions allowed.

You’re clearly really immature, some people just don’t have a good attitude for driving. Speed limits are there for a reason, you’re on a thread where people have been injured by speeding drivers and where people have lost loved ones to speeding drivers, you’re an attention seeker.

Speeding is rarely the sole cause of accidents.

Driving like a idiot while speeding causes accidents

Driving fast in poor conditions causes accidents.

Driving above the number in a red circle can be done safely as I've proven since getting a license

Speeding is driving like an idiot. My relative died due to someone thinking they were ok to speed. Anyway, you’ve been given enough attention. 🤡

In your opinion.

Mousemat25 · 23/08/2022 10:12

This thread clearly separates the people who have seen the devastating effect of poor driving has had on their friends / relatives / loved ones and those that think that deaths by dangerous driving happens to other people with other lives and not them.

these things happen to real people with real lives just like anyone else’s. Hit someone at 30 mph chances are they will live. Hit someone at 40 and 1 in 20 live.

Rosewaterblossom · 23/08/2022 10:15

Surely the OP would have been done more than 3 times if they have 9 points. That's just 3 times with points.. there's probably a forth time where they were maybe able to the drivers awareness course?

@Agrudge

you are very quick to respond to every comment directed at you but not this one.

still think it’s “irrelevant” even though patently very very relevant

If your driving 15mph above the limit in a area wher theres a good chance of children being around isnt driving to the conditions is it.

Agrudge · 23/08/2022 10:24

If your driving 15mph above the limit in a area wher theres a good chance of children being around isnt driving to the conditions is it.

But that’s the pesky thing about children.

Often they are not in areas where “there’s a good chance of children being around”

and hitting them at 45 mph in a 30 mph will result in death rather than, say 28 mph , which would more likelu be serious injury

LuckySnips · 23/08/2022 13:39

Speeding is rarely the sole cause of accidents

Speeding directly increases the necessary stopping distance. That's just physics. Unless you're Mystic Meg and can predict that nothing will appear in your new increased stopping range, you are directly increasing the risk you will hit something that you wouldn't at a lower speed.

I've realised that quite a lot of adults genuinely don't grasp the concept of risk. If they sped and didn't hit something, it "wasn't risky". Unfortunately we all have to share the road with these mince-for-brains.

eldora · 23/08/2022 13:44

DH has got himself out of this situation twice (idiot).

He told them he needs to take my mum to the hospital regularly.

Both times Hmm

Your using that as an extreme example. I never said doing 45 in 30 ok.

I only used 15mph under/over the limit as an example.

Because on right roads in the right conditions it's safe to go above the speed limit. The same as on some roads in bad conditions it's not safe to drive to drive at the speed limit.

I suppose you never drive over the limit?

I explicitly asked if you would feel comfortable doing 45 in a 30 and your response was two words

”I would”

Endlesslypatient82 · 23/08/2022 14:23

I’ll bow out

@Agrudge

Seen on another thread you don’t have children

Endlesslypatient82 · 23/08/2022 14:27

Although my brother doesn’t have children

And he’s doesn’t have a twatty approach to going happy 15mph over any speed limit of road conditions are ok

only someone who doesn’t love or even have any friends in their life would have that kind of stance of @Agrudge
