To give my 18 month old Macdonalds?

Benji4ever · 20/08/2022 11:42

Twice a month I take my two DS swimming all afternoon. On way home we get a drive through Macdonalds

The 3 year old has a happy meal. The 18 month old has a few of the chips. That's it.

I saw a mum give me one of those looks as I took some chips from the happy meal and gave them to the little one.

Is this awful? Its only twice a month and only a few chips. Also the 18 month old drink diluted squash regularly.

Aibu to think in the grand scheme of things its not that bad?

In Scotland just about every drink is juice except water or milk.

Diluting juice
Fresh juice
Fizzy juice

Although water can be cooncil juice!

Thank you - I did not know this! 😃

It's McDonald's.

And fries are only potatoes, oil and a bit of salt. Nothing there is harmful! Well, maybe the salt, if you eat loads of it.

If you buy and eat McCain chips they're the same thing because McCain make McDonald's fries.

@Idontwanttoffs I'm currently eating my kids leftover dinner (which is very cold), alone, with a large glass of white wine after a 2 hour bedtime. I mean...in control I am NOT.. But thanks for the nice words all the same.

I remember those days. I hope they sleep all night for you. 😴 🙏🏻

I think there’s lots of toddler age children that don’t have squash or McDonald’s. At that age it’s easy to avoid in most cases. When they get to school age, it’s obviously different, but I don’t think you have to be particularly strict about food to not give toddlers those things. Same with fruit shoots, my kids had plenty of them from age 5 onwards, mostly at classmates parties but not as tod

Maybe there is, I've genuinely never met any though. Every toddler I've ever known has drank juice - my GS's GP even told my DD to give him very diluted juice when he was constipated - it's not poison. Everything in moderation 🤷🏻‍♀️

My friends DD used to get her little cup and go to her neighbours for a cup of tea when she was about 2-3...maybe I just hang around in different social circles to most of MN. The attitudes on here are very extreme to me.

I live in a uni town where most young people spend their weekends binging on kebabs, booze and sniffing - all those wasted years of their mums preparing them locally sourced organic foodstuffs. I bet they leave uni, have kids and think Fruit Shoots are the works of Satan Grin

Too young to start them on a fast food addiction imo. My dd didn't have a McDonalds until she was over 5 as she was invited to a birthday party. We also didn't let her have fizzy drinks and to this day she's not mad on them.
The lure of McDonalds will get to them eventually so there's no need to introduce them to a crappy diet prematurely. Just pack a butty and some snacks eg banana, hummus and cucumber sticks etc cheaper too.

I'm sure op doesn't need you to tell her what fucking a axis she should pack!

Fries are high in salt but now and then won't hurt

underneaththeash · 20/08/2022 21:17

Just take a packed dinner with you on the days he swims. McDonalds is okay as a very occasional meal, but it’s hardly healthy - not suitable for a 10 mo.

dementedpixie · 20/08/2022 21:21

OPs child is 18 months old and twice a month counts as occasional to me

Well that’s good because OP’s youngest is 18mo

Love all these people telling you to just take a packed lunch. What misers.

Mine are 16,14 and 11 and have had it maybe 1-2x a year.

m just take a packed tea!

Why though? It takes a few minutes to make up a sandwich a packet of raisins/breadsticks and some fruit.
Possibly that’s why everyone is so fat in the U.K.?

underneaththeash · 20/08/2022 21:27

And so is far, far cheaper!

Treetops292 · 20/08/2022 21:27

LampLighter414 · 20/08/2022 11:50

Yes I wouldn’t personally. All those trans fats can’t be good for a baby’s tiny vascular system.

Home made, organic only for us

😂😂😂

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL · 20/08/2022 21:28

@underneaththeash raisins?

Everyone is so flat in the uk? Everyone?

Apart from your raisin eating family obviously!

dementedpixie · 20/08/2022 21:35

@underneaththeash Ooh raisins are terrible for your teeth
Shame on you for suggesting them!

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL · 20/08/2022 21:36

The dental work from your parents feeding you raisins is expensive though!

Mamai90 · 20/08/2022 21:48

No matter what you do as a parent there is judgement. People should mind their own business. I'm not interested in what other parents are doing with their kids as long as they aren't mistreating them. You do you and let other people do them!

underneaththeash · 20/08/2022 21:49

@LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL @dementedpixie i suspect your substandard parenting wil come back to ‘bite’ you…..
OP asked whether feeding her 10mo old Mac Donald’s is a good idea and it’s obviously not.
But lots of people don’t parent well.

Mine are 39 and 28 years old sweetie!

No worries about haunting....

They've also been brought up to be non judgemental and kind....

Yours on the other hand....... won't be!

It's not always about a few chips twice a week, it's about teaching your child to accept others feelings and knowing that a few chips twice a week is better than raisins twice a day!

Dreadful ignorant parenting!

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL · 20/08/2022 21:53

*chips twice a month!

JusticeforSpike · 20/08/2022 21:54

I wouldn’t judge you for a second over the chips, but I do judge babies being given juice/squash. It’s just not necessary AT ALL and causes the issues schools have with parents lamenting that their children won’t drink water.

And it's McDonalds, even you must know that? When you're telling them it's evil food? !
