This is lighthearted but I'm irritated!
DH maintains that there is no real difference between the vulva and vagina and argues with me when I tell him there is.
It's very silly. I say that the vagina in the inside part and the vulva is labia minora/ majora. He is totally BU?

I've just been having a discussion about this with my midwife daughter. Hearing women say they shave their vagina....... WHAT??!

Not helped by shows like Naked Attraction which regularly use incorrect terminology.

It was definitely vulva when I was at school in the mid eighties.

They must have dumbed down biology classes since my day if it's all just referred to as the vagina now.
Personally, I blame Khloe Kardadhian. She is obsessed with labelling the whole area 'her vagina.'

There are many many schools. Not all schools are considered equal. Congrats on having a school and teacher that taught you the word vulva sighs

That's weird.

I'm late 50's and I've always known that the inside only was the vagina. Can't remember what we were taught about the outside (either labia or vulva or both) but definitely knew the difference between the vagina and the rest.

Our school was in no way outstanding but at least they got that right.

To be fair to those questioning it, people have been known to believe some weird and wonderful and completely untrue things. You can't 100% conclude that that poster was being funny. Unless it was you op (I didn't check).

I am still intrigued by the tentacle holes, I admit. I was taught nothing at school and took years to work out, eventually, the difference between labia minora and labia majora, and that both were part of the vulva. But my vagina has no holes.

@knittingaddict what I mean is at school in formal lessons we were correctly taught the inside part is the vagina and the outside is the labia - but outside of school when talking among friends we would have just used the word vagina. As in someone wouldn't had said something like "I got off with Jason and he touched my labia" - it would have been "touched my vagina". Well...to be honest more like "touched my fanny".

Well fanny is not saying vagina, so that's not missnaming. I guess fanny could just mean the general area. No idea because I don't use the word.

@knittingaddict yeah no one really says fanny anymore. Back in 80s though it was more common. I've never used the word as an adult though.

@AmbushedByCake1 yes, I do and this wasn't a term I remember being taught. I understood the outside part to be labia from my school days. Having seen it on mumsnet and looked it up, I've taught my children to use the correct names.

@Needmorelego I was born in the early 1960s and know the correct terms, which were taught both in school and at home. My mum was born in the early 1930s and went to a RC convent boarding school.
