How do I prove I am who I am on my birth certificate with no official name change...

New account as TOTALLY outing!

When I was born, I was given my married parents surname ( name 1 )

When I was around 10 my parents split up and I took my mothers maiden name - there was no paperwork, no deedpoll nothing ( name 2 )

When I was 16 I got my NI number/card in name 2

When I got married, my maiden name was name 2 and now I have name 3

I worked for an airline where we could add family members, I couldnt add my siblings as we had different names (airline had my first name as name 2 and my siblings had name 2)

I'm now looking at getting my Irish Citizenship (via the Grandparent route) but I cannot prove that I with name 3 am also name 1

Does anyone know what I can do?
(going to post in Legal as well - but here for traffic)

And to be clear, at the time of giving notice of marriage, OP reasonably believed it was her legally acquired name, not least because she had a passport in that name.

Are you applying to be on the Foreign Birth Register?

Before you faff around with statutory declarations and deed polls, I would ask them directly for advice.

When I applied for mine the person allocated to my application was super helpful. The grandparent I was applying through had managed to amend their DOB to make them younger throughout their life. So their birth cert didn’t match their marriage cert or passport. They Foreign Births team just needed a written explanation from me. I am also estranged from one of my parents and they waived the requirement to provide their details.

and IF they had asked me, I would have happily told them - so if they asked, I would have told them.

I dont have anything to hide, there were no nefarious reasons for changing my name - we just didnt want to be associated with him any more

Hi OP @fruitslice I have been in your situation!!!

Name 1 on birth certificate but parents divorced when I was a baby.

Mum remarried when I was a toddler but in between never went back to her maiden name, so her marriage certificate shows Name 1 changing to Name 2. When her and step dad enrolled me in school they did it in my mums new married/step dads name - back in the 80s no paperwork was required. Hence I became known by Name 2.

My mum even opened a bank account for me in Name 2, using her own ID (marriage certificate).

When I was 17 and applied for my first driving licence the ID I provided was a bank statement (Miss Name 2), my birth certificate (Name 1) plus my mums marriage certificate showing change from Name 1 to Name 2.

When I applied for a passport a couple of years later I provided my driving licence and utility bills (I'd moved out by then) - all in Miss Name 2.

So by the time I was 21 I had 2 official forms of government issued ID, a bank account, savings account, mortgage and a host of utility bills in Miss Name 2........ except legally that wasn't my name and nobody had questioned it!!!!!

I didn't even know it wasn't "legal" until DH and I came to get married..... the vicar said they couldn't put Name 2 as my maiden name on the marriage certificate, it would have to be written in Name 1 as per my birth certificate. So I officially changed it by deedpoll and "legally" became Miss Name 2 for the grand total of 28 days before DH and I got married and I then became Mrs Name 3 😂😂😂

The only thing I can suggest for your citizenship is that you do what I did for my driving licence. Send in your birth certificate and marriage certificate along with your mums divorce papers and a covering note explaining that on divorce she reverted your name to her maiden name?
