To think that if my boss is unavailable then another manager should be there to do her job?

My line manager at work ahs been off for 2 weeks, not due back till Thursday(unless she is signed off again). For over a week now I have wanted to see if I can get this friday as my day off instead of Wednesday. I also found out that I am due 30 hours of holidays to be taken before the end of March.
However when I asked one of the toehr team managers about friday she said "You will need to wait until X is back". AIBU to think that someone should be doing my managers job while she is off? I need to know if I can get the day swopped, I also need the 28th january as a holiday becasue I ahve hospital appointments

How about your manager's manager?

Well my manager's manager is the store manager, but I haven't seen her for almost 2 weeks, i think she is either on holiday or ill.

Store deputy manager?
Have you seen if someone can swap the day off with you (that way you can present it as a fait accompli)

they make you take holiday for medical appts - this should be given to you

Waynetta - I don't do teh same job as the others. I only do 3 hours a day, 4 days a week. I normally have Wednesdays off and don't work weekends. I also need the 28th off for the medical appointments, but am prepared to take that as a day's holiday

So, you'd get your week's work finished on Thursday this week (because you worked Wednesday) instead of Friday? Dammit girl, have the day off. And tell them I said it was okay.

you need to demand to know who can deal with this in absence. can you contact HR?

It is company policy whether they make you take holiday for medical appt or not. They don't have to automitically give them to you (sorry but I have looked into this in great detail when sorting out my husbands staff as he is s/e).
