like i said i did not notice the date of the thread but ppl should not dragged my dd mc in to it end of story

taipo · 22/02/2009 15:56

Great post aitch.

Pretty much sums up what I feel about reality TV.

Lulumama · 22/02/2009 15:57

that is true, ilove

but you did say you were still disgusted, even when it was pointed out the thread was a year old

anyway, like i said, i don;t think any of us are having our finest hour here !

expatinscotland · 22/02/2009 15:58

you didn't notice the date? bollocks. you had to do a search for it to even find it it's so old.

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2009 15:58

oh i definitely feel softer towards her now... i'd written something on this thread a year ago to the effect that nothing was set in stone, that she could educate herself out of her behaviours and beliefs etc (although at the time it seemed she had no such desire).

now, she'll never have the chance to do that, she's lived her life at an accelerated pace, almost, and will die with so many questions unanswered and ambitions unachieved. that's sad, that makes me feel for her, no doubt.

woody2shoes · 22/02/2009 16:18

dying or not! who has the right to call people ugly, does any one on here know Jade personalyy?????? or is it just through TV, or whats in the papers??????? didnt think so.
I am sure everyone of us has done something or said something that we are ashamed of the difference being that its not broadcast to the nation for people to judge.
i agree with LULU does not show anyone in good light.

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2009 16:24

the cbb thing has been done to death on here, her behaviour was a disgrace. she did it on telly, so everyone saw. if i bullied someone sustainedly like that, with or without cameras, i would be behaving in an ugly manner and you would have every right to form a judgement about me.

is jade bringing a lot of new posters on here in the mccann style? there seems to be a lot of kneejerking and not much thinking going on lately.

woody2shoes · 22/02/2009 16:32

mccann style????????
i am new, dont watch any of her programmes dont read any news papers re: her. so no not jade that prompted me to post.

taipo · 22/02/2009 16:34

If I behaved badly on a reality TV show I would fully expect people to criticize me.

Like them or loathe them (and I would rather eat my feet than go on BB) it's the whole point of those programmes, surely? Anyone who thinks otherwise is seriously deluded.

woody2shoes · 22/02/2009 16:39

"to think Jade Goody is actually nice looking" got my attention as i thought it was reffering to her without hair, my friend is going through exactly the same thing as jade and is about to loose her hair i thought i would get good advice on this thread to pass to her. But once i read through i was shocked and rather disgusted at what i read. Just human.

NotPlayingAnyMore · 22/02/2009 16:44

A few thoughts:

I do think that Jade is physically very pretty and - dare I say it? - has the facial structure to carry off no hair.

As for her personality, well, that may well be a different matter.

I haven't read all of this old thread but I wonder: how many of the people who have posted have actually seen someone dying of cancer?

I have. It's not pretty.

Some people may be justified on wishing it their worst enemies, but it would, however, be unfair to state that Jade hasn't seen the error of her ways.

I haven't read all of this old thread but I get the general gist that it's been unpleasant, to say the least.

That's ugliness coming from inside, as well.

Lulumama · 22/02/2009 16:46

this thread was started before her diagnosis, it is about a year old

it is nothing to do with her situation now

someone revivied it as a way to chastise people for being critical of a dying woman, even though she was not dying when the thread was started

Lulumama · 22/02/2009 16:47

woody, this thread was started before she was ill and lost her hair

i would think your friend would get better advice from macmillan nurses ?

NotPlayingAnyMore · 22/02/2009 16:53

I see. I'm not piling on - I just think that this turn of events and the reactions to it, on Mumsnet and in public generally, is interesting and I'm just musing about it really

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2009 16:56

and yeah. i've seen people dying of cancer. my dad, for one. does that mean i can comment on someone a year ago bullying someone on a tv show? ffs, this place is going to the dogs.

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2009 16:57

x-posted. do everyone a favour, though, and read the threads.

2shoes · 22/02/2009 17:02

(woody2shoes is not me by the way)

woody2shoes · 22/02/2009 17:03

Lula i was just reading from "the lst 15mins" . Seen the topic and clicked, new to it all, didnt know where or when it had started, once i had started to read i then realsied it was old, like i said i though it was referring to how she looks now.
My friend will get better advice from Macmillan nurses. But we do talk about how she will look without hair, and she is worried about other peoples reactions, thats why i thought i'd get positive advice to pass her from this thread. Sorry i was wrong.
And may i add its not that its Jade goody that i am shoked its about how people can call other people ugly, i am sure we all find our kids friends family beautiful, but does everyone else? how would we feel if it were our kids being called ugly in such a nasty manner? so again its no her personality its her physical apperance that is the topic of this thread that got y attention.

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 22/02/2009 17:06

Just think how emetic the media is going to be for about a fortnight when the woman actually does pop her clogs. It's a shame, etc etc, wouldn't wish death by cancer on anyone, but really... She's not a secular saint (though not a monster either) just a not-very-educated girl who got lucky a time or two. But all the coverage is dragging out every sentimental fuck-brained slobberer in the country and it's only going to get worse.

NotPlayingAnyMore · 22/02/2009 17:07

Aitch - my post wasn't intended as agressive or attacking in any way, certainly not in the way you seemed to take it, but I can understand why you did.
I don't want to dig myself a hole but at the same time I don't tend to post "walking on eggshells".

It was more of a comment on how many people generally have been through the reality of this, which is probably still a minority (though obviously any is too many), with some of the more tasteless comments by the general public in mind.

Sorry about your dad by the way

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2009 17:08

i am sorry about your friend but to be fair and accurate i think people were calling Jade ugly on the INSIDE, as in having some unpleasant character traits.

however if you're looking for people calling her facially ugly might i suggest going through the archives of the channel four site relating to her original appearance on BB, where you will no doubt find plenty of references to her looking like a pig. what short memories people have.

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2009 17:11

exactly, sgb.

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2009 17:13

okay, NP, but the thread has never been about cancer and who had been through it, really. it was a thread about a different set of circumstances entirely and was resurrected by someone for reasons that i can't begin to speculate on.

NotPlayingAnyMore · 22/02/2009 17:18

I see, as I've already said.
I just reckoned as it provoked some thoughts in me I should post here rather than creating "yet another Jade thread" as has been complained about here recently, that's all.
If anything, my intention was only ever to diffuse and distract, but certainly not to offend.
