To stock up on nappies at 6 months pregnant?

Nellynoo182 · 15/08/2022 18:36

FTM here! Any opinions much appreciated 😊

My local Morrison’s have new born pampers nappies half price at the mo for £6. Should I stock up now? Is this cheap/ a good price for nappies? Or am I being stupid and these offers happen all the time 🤣 I am 6 months pregnant. Thanks!

I personally wouldn’t. Nappies vary wildly, I’ve friends that swear by Tesco own brand and others that will buy nothing but Huggies. Don’t spend a fortune on one brand, as you may not like it.
You’d be better off buying the smallest pack of a few different ones to try out to start with

QueSyrahSyrah · 15/08/2022 18:39

A friend of mine got a couple of packs of nappies and a couple of packs of wipes etc in her weekly shop from about 6 months, before she went on maternity and their household income dropped. When baby arrived they were well stocked up. Go for it if it seems like a good deal.

inthegarden94 · 15/08/2022 18:39

I think £6 is a lot when you can get a huge pack Aldi Mamia ones for £2/£3 and I personally think they're a lot softer and better than the pampers ones

Elerandooo · 15/08/2022 18:39

Not stupid at all. I stocked up on size 1 and 2 nappies while pregnant, figured he would fit into them at some point. He ended up being a teeny tiny baby and even the newborn size didn’t fit great, but he soon grew and we got use out of our abundance of nappies!

We also stocked up on wipes, picking up a big box from Aldi every time we went shopping!

Womanonthemoon · 15/08/2022 18:39

Get a pack sure but I wouldn't stock up. You don't know till you try them whether that brand will work for you and your baby, some people find certain brands leak or irritate there baby's skin, and you don't know how big your baby will be and how long they will fit that size.

You might find supermarket ones like Aldi are ok which are much cheaper than pampers anyway.

Whattodoaboutworknow · 15/08/2022 18:39

Aldi newborn nappies are awesome and soooo cheap!

YukoandHiro · 15/08/2022 18:40

Don't because the ones you buy might not suit your baby (strange fit, or cause rashes etc). It's impossible to know til they arrive which nappies work for them.

Mouk · 15/08/2022 18:40

I would hold off. For the record, my 2 grew out of the newborn nappies within the first few weeks.

MamaH22 · 15/08/2022 18:44

I bought mines before hand! Unless you have a 11lb baby newborn size will be fine. You can buy 2/3 packs as they go through so much 🤣 my baby was 8lb 5oz and was in newborn for ages as she was petite! Xx

Ponoka7 · 15/08/2022 18:45

Aldi and Lidl are good value. At the newborn stage you use at least nine nappies a day, so go for best value. I don't know anyone who rates pampers. Even Tesco own are better. I agree with buying wipes by the box. They are something you'll use until they are five years old and probably older.

OrlaOrka · 15/08/2022 18:45

Another vote for Aldi mamia nappies! I tried pampers with my first (PFB haha) and after a few weeks of constant leaks I went to Aldi and never looked back. I use the premium ones.

second pregnancy I bought a pack every week from about 6 months pregnant and was well stocked up!

Namechanger965 · 15/08/2022 18:48

I wouldn’t either. Id try another brand (we found aldi and Sainsburys best), rather than pay the ridiculous price of pamper if you don’t need to (the difference isn’t that much in the smaller sizes but it is in the bigger sizes). And I hated pampers, when they got wet they had a really horrible smell to them so I ended up changing dc more often than was necessary.

InChocolateWeTrust · 15/08/2022 18:49

Pampers are a complete rip off!

Just get supermarket ones they are near identical and a fraction of the cost. Except tesco ones which are weirdly papery.

I tried probably every brand of nappies going, I would rank them:

1st: asda little Angel's
2nd: sainsburys
3rd: pampers:
4th: aldi mamia
5th: Tesco

Horizons83 · 15/08/2022 18:51

Another one here saying don’t use pampers, they really aren’t that good. We’ve always used Tesco or Aldi and very happy with them.

OKScarpetta · 15/08/2022 18:51

Only been able to use Pampers with my two. I was desperate to be able to buy the cheaper nappies, but horrific reactions meant that we’ve been back to Pampers. Initially the sensitive ones, and then the purple ones for size 4 onwards. It’s sooo annoying!!

shebathequeenof · 15/08/2022 18:57

My dc could not use Pampers or huggies at all. The crystals like the ones in sanitary towels which are in these nappies to soak up urine caused them awful nappy rash.

I found the cheapest value ones which were basically cotton wool and reusable nappies were the only ones to not give them a horrendous rash within 24 hours. I would of wasted so much money if I had stocked up at 6 months!

Same with wipes. Obviously loads of babies are fine with Pampers etc. but you don't know yet which ones will ne best for your baby.

It's like someone purchasing you a years supply of san pro 3 months before you need any.

CakeCrumbs44 · 15/08/2022 19:00

I wouldn't bother to be honest. Newborn nappies aren't expensive from most places and you don't need them for long. They're about £1 a pack in aldi. If you want a brand they'll probably be on offer somewhere else sooner or later.

onmywayamarillo · 15/08/2022 19:03

Get a range of sizes! They grow out of newborn quite quickly

Go for it

bogoblin · 15/08/2022 19:03

Not cheap for nappies at all! Even at half price that's more than we pay for Lidl's own brand! Not daft to stock up but definitely have a look around at different brands. I know lots of people who don't get on with pampers at all

ChampagneLassie · 15/08/2022 19:06

I got given LOADS lasted us for weeks and by that time different size. I bought Tesco own brand and they're fine. My LO wets a lot and I've found pampers dry old more do use them overnight. But at 6 months I'd encourage you to do anything and everything I terms of prep as you've no idea how little time you may have once baby here or what state you'll be in. And enjoy your freedom! Don't stockpile nappies!

Greymalkin12 · 15/08/2022 19:09

I found Morrisons nappies fine!

romdowa · 15/08/2022 19:09

I did this with nappies and wipes. Both gave my baby a rash and had to go given away.

lastminutedotcom22 · 15/08/2022 20:58

I did this with both pregnancies I joined boots parenting club and waiting for the baby offers and stashed lots of bits and got tonnes of points too - well worth getting them on offer I was pleased I had as money is tighter on maternity leave

iloveyoubaby1 · 15/08/2022 21:00

I think the Aldi premium ones are brilliant. We've had pampers and didn't think they were as good. We stocked up on nappies towards the end of the pregnancy.

FLOWER1982 · 15/08/2022 21:01

Sainsburys were the only ones that didn’t leak for me.
