Inspired by another thread, what time do you eat your meals every day? Posters were talking about having dinner at 5pm and I thought that was really interesting! It’s not something I’d previously come across.

Also interested in whether this varies by age or region, so it would great if you could say. I’ll start.

DH and I are in our 30’s, have no kids and live and work in Central London

Breakfast (well, a smoothie): 8.30am

Lunch: Half 1ish

Dinner: circa 8pm

Breakfast - 10, or if busy 11
lunch - 1
tea /snack - 4 or 5
Dinner - 8 (7.30 when I can)

More varied at weekends

heidihigh · 14/08/2022 19:06

Breakfast - if at work on an early shift then perhaps a Belvita or similar about 7ish, if off then around 9/10
Lunch - rarely have a proper 'lunch' but may have a snack around 1/2
Dinner - depends on what time DP and I get in from work but mostly between 6-8

moreteensthansense · 14/08/2022 19:06

I’m not very keen on breakfast so I often don’t bother but sometimes have a little something sort of 9ish. Coffee without fail around 1030.
lunch varies but usually 1230-1ish. I don’t always provide for others, sometime we all fend for ourselves. I usually eat leftovers.
dinner I aim for 630. It sometimes slips a bit but rarely later than 7

FlissyPaps · 14/08/2022 19:06

Breakfast: Don’t eat it.

Dinner: 12-1pm
Tea: 7pm

Usually have snacks at work (piece of fruit, biscuits) and something around 9pm (cereal bar, cheese and crackers, cereal)

One DD, age 3, at full time nursery so she tends to get hungry on their timings:

Weekdays:
Breakfast 6.30am
Lunch midday
Dinner once she’s in bed, 7.30pm

Weekends:
Breakfast: 6.30am
Lunch: 11.30-midday ish
DD dinner: 4.30pm
Our dinner once she’s in bed, 7.30pm

we eat breakfast and lunch as a family but I’m not eating dinner at 4.30 or 5pm!

Breakfast roughly at 7am
Lunch 12.30
Dinner is normally 5.30. no later than 6pm.
I'm amazed at how many people eat so late into the evening.
(Live in the Midlands with school age children)

I’m astonished some of you eat so early! 😂

Most people I know aren’t even home from work at half 5. Unless you wfh, dinner before 7pm is impossible for most people in standard 9 to 5 (which often means half 5 or 6) jobs. I suppose my error was assuming that most people work those sorts of hours. This thread indicates that’s very much not the case!

Most nurseries and childcare is closed for 6, after school club for half 5. Plus cooking, eating, bath and bedtime means I can’t leave it that late.

You quickly get used to having to work your actual working hours and get home!

SocksAndTheCity · 14/08/2022 19:10

Breakfast 1 (before gym): coffee and toast or banana 6.30-45am

Breakfast 2 (after gym): Greek yoghurt with berries or sometimes porridge or pancakes 8.30-9am

Lunch: depends how busy I am - can be any time from 11.30am to 3-4pm

Dinner: usually 6.30-7pm, later if had lunch late or don't get in until then

Snack: usually 9.30-10ish; cheese and crackers/cereal or something

I'm 49 in central London Smile

ShinyPikachu · 14/08/2022 19:13

Breakfast: I can't eat as soon as I get up so usually around 10am. Sometimes later and I'll have brunch instead.

Lunch: 1-2

Dinner: usually sometime between 6 and 9 depending on how I'm feeling (I have a chronic illness) and what we're having. It's usually 7ish but will be 9 on a bad day and I've been known to let DC fend for themselves (both teens) and I'll eat something easy around 10pm.

I'm often up quite late so a later dinner stops me wanting a supper before bed.

squashyhat · 14/08/2022 19:13

Breakfast - whenever I get up
Lunch - if I'm hungry 12.30-1ish
Dinner - 7-7.30

Narcheska · 14/08/2022 19:13

South west DH, me & 3 kids (10, 4 & 3)

breakfast - 7am-8am

lunch 12-12:30

supper 6:30-7:30 (depends if DH had to hot to his main office or not and also what I’m cooking)

we all eat together apart from Tuesday and Thursday when ds1 has a sports club then give the littles ones their dinner and get them to bed and DH, ds1 and I eat our share when they’re back.
