Inspired by another thread, what time do you eat your meals every day? Posters were talking about having dinner at 5pm and I thought that was really interesting! It’s not something I’d previously come across.

Also interested in whether this varies by age or region, so it would great if you could say. I’ll start.

DH and I are in our 30’s, have no kids and live and work in Central London

Breakfast (well, a smoothie): 8.30am

Lunch: Half 1ish

Dinner: circa 8pm

In my 30s, DDs are 5 and 3.

I don't usually eat breakfast, DDs have theirs around 7am/7.30am. If I do have something for breakfast it's usually around 9am.

Lunch is always around 12pm. Anything after 1pm would be a late lunch for us.

Dinner is around 5.30pm if we're eating with DDs or if DH and I are eating separately we eat at 8pm after the children are in bed.

CuriousCatfish · 14/08/2022 18:41

We don't really have set times for breakfast and lunch.

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 14/08/2022 18:42

Just me and DH, in our early 50s. West of England. Both WFH with regular site meetings and office days, but mostly WFH so this is a WFH day with both of us here.

Breakfast: DH about 8, me about 8.30-9.

Lunch: 1pm

Dinner: 7.30ish - occasionally a bit earlier or later.

I usually have a little smackerel of something about 10, due to stomach acid overproduction, to keep me going overnight.

hellcatspangle · 14/08/2022 18:42

Breakfast about 7.30, lunch 12.30-1, dinner about 6.

AlbaDT · 14/08/2022 18:42

Breakfast at my desk at 8

Lunch at around 1

Dinner 6-7 depending on work and other commitments. Growing up, tea was always on the table at 5pm (north west England).

Imissmoominmama · 14/08/2022 18:37

Breakfast- 7am
Lunch- noon
Tea (we’re northern and it’s too early for dinner)- 5:30pm

I don’t like eating any later- it disrupts my sleep.

What time do you go to bed, if you don’t mind me asking?

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 14/08/2022 18:42

For me, it's around 8am, 2pm and 8pm
For DH, it's around midday and 5pm.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 14/08/2022 18:42

I’m a teacher so have a different schedule during term time, I have an early lunch break at 11.30 so tend to eat dinner a bit earlier, at around 6-7pm depending what time I get home. During the holidays I eat later, so lunch around 1pm and dinner at around 8ish. No partner, and teen DD does her own thing for lunch and eats with me in the evenings. Neither of us eat breakfast, maybe a piece of fruit sometimes but never a meal.

@Cherchezlaspice because my hunger isn't related to how much I eat, I have a health condition which means I'm always hungry even after demolishing a roast. I therefore put on a few stone have had go reduce calories to lose the stone and now have to stick to low cals to maintain my weight.

Oh, I see. That sounds challenging. Sorry you’re dealing with that.

QuickQuestionNotAZombie · 14/08/2022 18:44

Thanks @Cherchezlaspice ! To be more specific it's the medication I take that causes the hunger. It is tiresome but you get used to it after a while.

Some combination of these meals (we don't have all five on a single day!):
Breakfast: 6am-7am
Second breakfast: 9am-11am
Lunch: 11am-3pm
Tea: 4pm-7pm
Supper: 6pm-10pm

We vary all over the place, we go out all the time and will often eat something small mid-morning before having a huge meal when we get home at 3/4pm, or we might have a second breakfast before we go and them nothing much until late teatime.

I love this! It’s very ‘wizards at the Unseen University’ (random TP reference, sorry). 😁

School days it’s
B: 7am
L: Dd eats at school and I’m usually too busy to eat

PeloAddict · 14/08/2022 18:46

All depends on work finish time
Lunch (allocated by work) between 11.30am - 2pm
Tea between 5pm and 7.30pm

littlepeas · 14/08/2022 18:47

Weekdays brunch at 11ish and Dinner at around 7.30pm (don’t wake up hungry). I wait for lunch at the weekend to eat with dh and dc.

Breakfast is every man for himself. Have always eaten dinner as a family.

OneTC · 14/08/2022 18:49

Breakfast around 11am and dinner between 9-11pm. No lunch

WeCanBeHappyUnderground · 14/08/2022 18:49

40s, primary aged DC, London
Varies a lot but typically something like:
7:30 breakfast
12:00 lunch
16:00 snack (for DC, not often for DH & I)
19:00 dinner

dmask · 14/08/2022 18:54

Lunch between 1300-1400, depending on meetings
Dinner 2100

Weekends:
Child has breakfast around 8, we have coffee
Brunch for us/lunch for child around 11.30
Child has dinner around 1500 depending on nap
Snack for child around 1800, we have light starter (usually the same thing for all of us), bruschetta/blinis/etc.
Dinner 2100

SummerSazz · 14/08/2022 18:57

Breakfast - nothing. DC's usually have yoghurt & granola about 7.30am
Lunch - 12-2 depending on how busy I am at work
Dinner - 7 ish
Bed - 10pm

I try to only eat within an 8 hr window (12-8) as intermittent fasting has health benefits

I'm in the SW

ElbowsandArses · 14/08/2022 18:59

South west, DH & I in our 50s, kids are teens

B: kids eat before school/ when they get up, I eat at 9 ish

L: 12:30

D: between 5:30 and 6, depending on how soon we get home / finish work etc.

We used to eat evening meal later but I am always ravenous by 4 and can hold on if dinner is soon; otherwise fill my face with quick rubbish at 4 or 5, and then eat a full meal later and get fat. Eating earlier has been a revelation. Sleep much better, don’t snack afternoon/ evening and can get 15 hours fasting in no bother.

choppedtomatoes · 14/08/2022 18:59

Breakfast roughly at 7am
Lunch 12.30
Dinner is normally 5.30. no later than 6pm.
I'm amazed at how many people eat so late into the evening.
(Live in the Midlands with school age children)

My youngest enjoyed your reference, he is a big TP fan!

On reflection I have decided I like to have the biggest meal at the earlier end of the day and then gradually eat smaller meals, rather than be waiting for dinner all day.

Tayegete · 14/08/2022 19:00

Breakfast 9-10
lunch 12-1 (sometimes later if I have meetings)
Tea - 5-6

stargirl1701 · 14/08/2022 19:00

Breakfast 7am

Lunch 12.30pm

Dinner 6.30pm (we have children)

Before DC, I would eat later around 7.30pm.

I'm in Scotland.

Sprig1 · 14/08/2022 19:02

Breakfast about half eight (or not at all)
Lunch 12
