To think my friend is wrong and this can't be classed as stealing?

Whenever I order a home delivery from Tesco I always get a refund on stuff that they have substituted in exchange for what I originally ordered to get money back and to keep the food, sometimes when I genuinely dislike their substitute choice or sometimes when I just want some money back.

My friend said "that is what is known as stealing". I replied "HOW can it be stealing when I call up and ask for a refund and it's at their discretion if they give one or not?" Also, I used to work in a few call centres and so probably speak to people who work at call centres politer than most other people, so that might factor their decision to give me refunds.

Unless someone tells me that they work for Tesco on the call centres and they are obliged to give everyone a refund that asks for one but they will later be punished or sacked for it if they say yes, then I can't see what the issue is if they say yes? I don't shout, or threaten or rant. I ask nicely and they say yes. If they were to ever say no, I'd simply say "okay then" and that would be that. So how is it stealing?

I just can't believe in this day and age someone would begrudge someone free food. Their tagline is "Every Little Helps". This is helping me. If they didn't want to help, they can easily say no. Or AIBU and out of touch?

Ok, now you know everyone thinks you're a shady liar, but even if any of what you say is true, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? Here are your options as I see it:

a) Ring customer services (you have their number) and ask them why you don't get your email receipt before delivery?

b) Ask the driver if you have any substitutions?

c) Carry on telling yourself every little item stolen helps?

Please update us...

You do make exciting threads OP

rarelyontime · 14/08/2022 19:23

I can accept that the driver might not ask you if you're happy with the substitutions.

You've said that sometimes you ask for a refund because the substitutions aren't to your taste, and sometimes just because you want some money back.

When you want some money back, what do you say? Do you say, "I'd really like some money back because I fancy it, is that OK?" or do you say, "I'd like a refund, please, because I don't like/can't use that item"?

If you're sometimes saying you want the refund because you don't like the product when that's not actually true, then yes, you are doing something wrong. You're lying to get the refund. There is a difference between not being able to use the substitute and just wanting some money for the sake of it.

If you dislike substitutions so much, you know, you can opt out of them. Or, you can do what most people do, and that's to write a little note against each item to help Tesco select suitable substitutions that you will actually want to use.

Of course, that would make it harder for you to just ask for free money.

Is there literally any point in replying when nobody is reading my past posts and posting things that directly contradict them? Will hide this thread most likely as its the same stuff being said over and over.

OP posts:
Keyansier · 14/08/2022 19:55

Again, it's highly unlikely you've NEVER had a Tesco driver follow training and ask you if they're happy with substitutions!

I have NEVER. I don't know how else to say that I've never.

Probably no point at all. But contrary to what you think, we are reading your posts. Continuing to post things that are blatantly untrue, however, won't make people any more inclined to believe you.

CatsAreCrackers · 14/08/2022 20:05

@Keyansier

How many Tesco deliveries have you actually had?

PumpkinClementina · 14/08/2022 20:30

Amazed this is still up, considering it's a load of bullshit.

rainbowmilk · 14/08/2022 20:31

Is it the same friend who called you an attention seeker because you had a cry over not being ID’d by the gay checkout person?

Heyisforhorses · 14/08/2022 20:44

Yes it's stealing and you know it. You are clearly high maintenance and never admit when wrong. I do believe the Tesco driver drops and runs though cos if I were them I wouldn't be stalling for your feedback either.

They don't ask me for feedback - or anything. If I'm honest, I was surprised that lots of people on this thread say that their delivery driver asks them about substitutes - not one of my delivery drivers has ever spoken to me about anything about my delivery other than asking for my name as confirmation it's the right person when I open the door.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 14/08/2022 22:23

Nope. I don't believe you.

It's people like you that make supermarkets pass on their losses to the rest of us.

You could easily have said, sorry , I didn't order these stuffed tomatoes. It's very easy to scan your shopping as you receive it.

Why not ask for no substitutions when you order?

RosiePosie27 · 14/08/2022 22:29

Oooooh, you CF. No, not reasonable at all. You should feel terrible!!!

BMW6 · 14/08/2022 23:56

Yeah, you are 100% lying OP.

Either this is totally fictional, or you are just a common thief.

What's your next thread going to be about I wonder 🤔🙄

luckylavender · 15/08/2022 00:11

It's not something I could condone. It's underhand & devious.

But my question was not about being morally right, to be fair, I'm not bothered about what people morally think of me. My point is, I'm not stealing, because they have 100% of all the power to say no and refuse, but so far they haven't. So my point to my friend was what part of that is the stealing part?

It is stealing if you are asking for a refund of something and keeping it. If it had gone off, or was out of date, or broken, that's one thing... but keeping the food and always asking for a refund to get money back is dishonest, in other words, stealing. What's more, it's pre-meditated. Your friend is right.

"Whenever I order a home delivery from Tesco I always get a refund on stuff that they have substituted in exchange for what I originally ordered to get money back and to keep the food, sometimes when I genuinely dislike their substitute choice or sometimes when I just want some money back."

And, of course, your deceit is making everything more expensive for the rest of us, as Tesco will put the prices up to cover their losses. Thanks for that.

SofiaSoFar · 15/08/2022 00:31

You're running a scam, if you're honest with yourself.

If I was your friend I'd be considering the closeness of our relationship since you're untrustworthy and you see no issue with your behaviour.

Again, it's highly unlikely you've NEVER had a Tesco driver follow training and ask you if they're happy with substitutions!

I have NEVER. I don't know how else to say that I've never.

What is your nearest Tesco store?

I could find out if absolutely NO Tesco driver is asking you if you're happy with your substitutions.

But, like I said, your claim really does not ring true as that store would be performing badly across ALL metrics.

Including Customer Viewpoint which WILL show up drivers not asking you anything!

You previously claimed in a thread you always get asked for ID.....if so, then your Tesco drivers would have asked you for it in accordance with Think 25 policy.

Meaning they've time to ask you other things and will ask you them.

Drivers get a total of 5 mins max at the door. 17 customers max at any one delivery run. So, no excuses for not following training.

You've run into a brick wall so many times you've hurt yourself trying to think of more plausible excuses.

Highly unlikely. Tesco WILL know if drivers aren't doing this. Our SDS devices tells them how long we were at door and we are monitored on SDS usage. No way for a driver not to use them and go through substitutions with you.

What you should do is select "NO SUBSTITUTIONS" when ordering online. But you won't, will you? After all, you've admitted you're trying to claw money back from Tesco in a dishonest manner. 🙄

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 15/08/2022 09:42

A few people on this thread have said this, but it makes no difference to the fact I've never been asked or had a discussion about it, ever.

Speak to customer services about that. You should get a list sent before the delivery arrives. And the driver should ask - they always ask me if I've seen the email and offer to talk it through if I haven't.

It would be great if you could see the list and say "don't bother to bring the mushrooms" and they could sell them to someone else - but I understand why that isn't practical.

It's not stealing. It is fraud. Which is a criminal offence.

Not clever to admit online to a criminal offence. Especially naming your victim who may see it (Tesco has a LOT of employees) and report it to the police. MN have to release your personal details in a criminal investigation.....
