Forgive me mumsnet, for I have sinned...

Lighthearted!

My sin: I went to a Wetherspoons whilst on holiday in England. Not once, but twiceBlush The food was great and I have 3 children with very restricted tastes in food. I'm the same so the menu suited us all. I feel bad about going there knowing the mumsnet consensus on the guy who runs Wetherspoons but it met our needs. I am a Catholic and feel like I need to say a few Hail Marys as a result.

What are your mumsnet sins?

I like my colleagues and enjoy chatting to them
toilet brushes in my house
buy fast fashion (but a lot of it gets handed down if possible)
2 houses, 2 kids - not married to my P. he’s not D at the moment (he left the bathroom door open 🤢)

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/08/2022 08:44

I am anti loobrush but I have one for the cleaner. Ashamed 🙈

I haven’t had any drama or bill splitting disputes with friends since I was a student, and then few

I think the trans debate has gone mental at both ends and everyone needs to calm down

Strulch · 14/08/2022 08:45

I like Boris Johnson and think he's the best of a bad bunch and we will be in a muddle when he's gone (but am not a conservative voter).

I forgot another one - when DD was a newborn, I was in a cafe . I was knackered, my boobs were huge and leaky, I’d been eating cold food since she was born, I had had no sleep and just as a delicious looking full English breakfast food was put in front of me, DD started to fuss. Lifted her out her pram and a lady of about 65 at the next table gasped, reached her arms out and said “Oh my I LOVE babies, she’s gorgeous, shall I hold her while you eat your breakfast my love?”.

I did not do any of the following:

  • Call 101
  • Say no and school her on appropriate boundaries.
  • run screaming from the cafe while I reported her to the manager
  • Told her to fuck off
  • Karate kick her in the face and flee from the cafe, leaving the pram and my handbag behind as I went into hiding for a year.
Reader, I handed my baby over. And for the first time in weeks enjoyed a hot meal. DD was fine - the woman was with her friend and their husbands and her DH was very ‘FGS here she goes again, always wanting to cuddle babies, our sons live abroad you see and we rarely see our grandchildren.’ She told me I’d made her day, and I felt so happy for the rest of the day.

OP this made me tear up..I am that lady..Not as old and not a Grandma yet but I would have loved to help you out and get the bonus of a cuddle thrown in...

Smithy8001 · 14/08/2022 08:48

I don’t have a DH problem.
I still breastfeed my 2.5 year old mostly out of laziness.
I too have a loo brush.
I get disappointed when troll threads get deleted. Some of them are entertaining!

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 14/08/2022 08:48

I judge - I think many children’s problems are caused by shit parenting.

I like having money and will be encouraging my children to make sure they prioritise a job that brings in cold hard cash to keep them in the style to which they have become accustomed, they can salve their conscience by giving to charity/volunteering.

Have voted Tory in the past, and might again.

NorthernSoul55 · 14/08/2022 08:48

I parked in a parent and child space when out with my daughter. She's 27.
I have and use a loo brush. In mitigation the brush bit is Donald Trump's head.

MrsToothyBitch · 14/08/2022 08:53

Spoons is good! Fast, easy, cheap and reliable. My MN sins are many.

I own, use and like my loo brush.
I am considering getting a cleaner- I already get a man in to clean the oven.
I let my laundry get darked on in warm summer weather.
My politics are broadly not those of the MN majority.
My shopping list features toms, pots and other convenient, written in a hurry shorthand that makes MN pearls get clutched.
I'm planning my wedding and I have more than 5 guests and it will cost more than the 50p that seems to be the MN budget.

I plan to take DPs name.
I still believe in ironing.
Towels probably aren't washed enough for MN standards.
I wouldn't own one because of the cost and work but I LOVE hot tubs.

Does drinking alcohol come into that too???

I drink alcohol in front of the kids too. 🍺

Manzana · 14/08/2022 08:59

my DP belongs to a cycle club and often goes out at the weekend for a group ride, and I don't mind.

Katyrosebug · 14/08/2022 09:01

I smoke weed

RGinaPhalange · 14/08/2022 09:02

shame on you all!!!! I snapped and farted!

BrioNotBiro · 14/08/2022 09:02

I dare to be over 60, have a reasonable pension and own my house.

StarlightLady · 14/08/2022 09:08

@AMIAMIBU - I’ve been called worse than “flighty” believe me! I haven’t got any on today, too warm. What would she call me today?

itsgettingweird · 14/08/2022 09:09

newbiename · 13/08/2022 22:35

I've left my washing out to be darked on

Me too 🤣🤣🤣🤷‍♀️

It's probably even worse that it's because I'd forgotten I'd done it and hung it out!

MsTSwift · 14/08/2022 09:09

Yes I agree Manza. Dh is a total Mamil and I love it. Means he’s mega fit I get peaceful weekend mornings and he is honour bound to be super supportive of any plan /hobby of mine.

Love this 💝

Studyafter40 · 14/08/2022 09:11

I love an edible. I have no medical need. I just enjoy the feeling 😊

Bobshhh · 14/08/2022 09:11

-I actively encourage my husband to go out cycling because he loves it

-if either of us is hungover the other one makes them a sweet tea and is kind to them

-we have a toilet brush and I think it's madness that you wouldn't have one

-we don't have fully combined finances

-I answer the door to anyone who knocks, no matter the time of day or whether I'm expecting someone

-cats sleep on the bed, normally sharing my pillow

HangingOver · 14/08/2022 09:14

I'm whispers a vegan.

LifesTooShortToLearnPolish · 14/08/2022 09:16

Foccacia · 14/08/2022 03:43

If you own a dog, your house smells of dog.

As a PP said, this is really not the put down you think it is: yes, we dog owners know this, and - newsflash - we don’t care!

And we’re not horrified to think that people may have come round and noticed a dog smell… we much prefer our dogs to judgy visitors who can leave if they don’t like it.

I parked in a parent and child space when out with my daughter. She's 27 😅
Shes still you child! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Galvanisethis · 14/08/2022 09:17

I ate a whole share bag of pickled monster munch, in private, and hid them from my kids.

ManateeFair · 14/08/2022 09:17

I don’t have any kids.

I don’t care if food is ‘processed’ and am entirely confident that the ‘chemicals’ in cosmetics and toiletries are not going to harm me.

I’ve got loads of tattoos.

I can’t drive, have no intention of learning and don’t believe it’s an essential skill.

I really like football and shout and swear at the telly when I watch it.

I’m not worried or offended or even particularly saddened when friendships fizzle out with no explanation. I would happily ghost someone rather than have a big angsty conversation.

I’m perfectly happy to use unisex toilets.

I do not collapse with a migraine or feel sick when someone walks past me wearing strong perfume. I wear perfume myself every day.

esgee · 14/08/2022 09:18

I own 5 houses outright. I am the MN hated landlord.

I am interviewing prospective tenants as one has become available.
13 people have been to see it, 13 people want it, 13 of them expressed shock that I would want to screen their finances.
Even the chap who earns 10 million a year - course you do mate, which is why you want to rent a 2 bed house.

I also wear crocs, but not in public.

I snapped but I didn’t fart …I’m sorry
