To think there is no flattering swimwear for the larger lady

MahMahMahMahCorona · 13/08/2022 15:47

I've scoured the Internet and I cannot find what I'm looking for.

Currently 9months into breastfeeding and 16 stone (down from 20 since birthing the baby, so that's a bonus).

Going on holiday next week and am in total denial about my size. Nothing looks right, nothing looks like it can cover all my sins so I anticipate hiding inside, beneath sarongs and towels, baking and perspiring for the entirety of the holiday.

DP suggestion? "Ask Mumsnet".

So I'm asking: where does a 16 stone breastfeeding large boobed lop-sided (baby only feeds from the right breast) large thigh'd large with an overhang mama, find flattering swimwear?

AIBU in saying the task is an impossible task?

If you've found this page in search of swimwear that has been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best swimsuits for women useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

You can't hide fat in a swimsuit (and not in clothing either tbh). I just think you need to change your approach.

guinnessguzzler · 13/08/2022 21:10

Agree with comments about not trying to hide your body. I went on a spa day recently and actually felt frumpy in my cover up, hold it in costume which didn't do anything for me and realised other women with similar shapes to me looked so much better in costumes / bikinis that showed off their best bits (mainly boobs!) and wearing them with confidence. Easier said than done but you have an amazing body; it just grew your beautiful baby! Hope you have a fantastic holiday.

Benjispruce4 · 13/08/2022 21:13

@guinnessguzzler what a lovely sentiment and I agree. I also love a Guinness 😁

pour moi

Pour moi has some nice swimsuits. I just got a Tankini from them.

YourUserName it looks like SeaFancy is a bogus/knock-off company based in China /the reviews are not great at all

Thanks for the heads up, glad I didn’t go ahead and order yet.

Musereader · 13/08/2022 23:54

I'm a size 16/18 and i got a swim dress from meet curve uk, would put a link but for some reason my sky mobile keeps blocking the website

BerryBerryBerryBerry · 14/08/2022 04:02

There is a reason. It doesn't matter but you can't expect to look like Naomi Campbell. It just means stop trying to and wear what you are comfortable with. It's 2022, there will be much fatter people than you, I promise.

BerryBerryBerryBerry · 14/08/2022 04:03

Bravissimo have good plus size stuff, especially the tops I recall.

Fruitbatdancer · 14/08/2022 04:20

This is easily the most flattering swimwear I’ve even put on! Holds in the right places, doesn’t look like a cover up, GREAT boob support if you have large/ big boobs! I feel fab in it! (Size 22)

I'm 16 stone, big boobs, c section tummy and bought this recently: www.marksandspencer.com/tummy-control-plunge-swimsuit/p/clp60510630

It's flattering and comfy, a bit booby but they stay in fine. Don't care about my thighs squishing together, it's normal. It's out of stock at the moment but you can sign up for an alert when it comes back into stock (I did and it appeared a week or so later).

I've got one exactly like this from the M&S outlet - really nice suit and boobs look fab in it due to the criss cross support underneath

LemonApplePeach · 14/08/2022 04:50

I don't know how so many are recommeding tankinis. When I've worn them they ride up so my belly is poking out. Not a good look. I wear underwired, skirted swimsuits from Amazon.

CraftyClara · 14/08/2022 04:59

The M&S swimsuit is excellent. I’d also recommend Elomi for supportive swimwear. You can often get it cheaper on Amazon rather than the Elomi website.

Barbequebeans64 · 14/08/2022 05:51

I highly recommend simply be for choice.

Also please don't hide undera towel. Everyone is too busy worrying about themselves to look at you , and also you're in holiday so won't ever see them again. This is coming from a size 20 woman :)

Sexnotgender · 14/08/2022 06:01

The chances of you seeing any of these people again are very slim. Wear whatever the hell you want and be comfortable!

i personally prefer board shorts/swim shorts and a bikini top.

MrsFortSQ · 14/08/2022 06:23

I'm a larger lady and find the 1950s style costumes on Bettylicious to be brilliant, particularly the Esther Williams ones.

I'm on holiday now and the first day I was on my lounger petrified to take my kaftan off. On day 5 now and I couldn't care less! Don't let it spoil your holiday, no one will be looking. Have a wonderful time!

Benjispruce4 · 15/08/2022 12:11

I had a day out at the beach yesterday. There was a lady in a beautiful turquoise ones shouldered swimsuit with a frill along the neckline and over the one shoulder. She looked great and I saw the costume rather than her being larger. I wanted to ask her where it was from so I could come and tell you all. So whoever posted above about wearing something beautiful is right.

glasshouse · 15/08/2022 12:20

I'm about the same size as you if not bigger and get most of my swimwear from Lands End in the sale. They don't need constant tugging out and I get the largest cup size going. But, the thing that helped most was doing open water swimming and aqua aerobic classes, standing waiting to go in with a bunch of other women of all sizes made me realise that we all look different. Everyone has their own hang ups no matter what size they are. And no one takes as much notice of other people as you do about yourself. Enjoy the water.

TooManyPJs · 13/08/2022 16:14

Surprised at all the people recommended a tankini. I look bloody terrible in a tankini. Presumably must depend on your shape and where you carry your fat.

Perhaps it depends on the style of the tankini? Surely it's just a swimming costume in two pieces - making it easier to go to the toilet ! Particularly if you have shorts on top .

So true

bloodyplanes · 15/08/2022 18:28

You need one with a good tummy control panel and good support up top. Go for a medium cut leg as it will make your legs look longer and therefore slimmer. Get a nice kaftan or sarong to cover up when you need to.

Nodancingshoes · 15/08/2022 18:38

I think something with a large print would look flattering - Mine has large polka dots and drawstrings on the sides. I would stay away from skirted swimsuits - I think they just make you look bigger

Nodancingshoes · 15/08/2022 18:40

Also I went to an outdoor swimming pool the other day and there were lots of women there bigger than me and more confident than me! Confidence is the key I feel
