Not really an AIBU (or it could be, depends how passionately you think I’m wrong)

But am I alone in thinking the word Rhythm used to be spelt ‘Rhythmn’??

I could honestly swear up was down that it used to have the n on the end

I get this! I think it’s because I learnt it along with other ‘tricky’ spelling words like autumn and I get confused between them. I bet there was a spelling book we all used and they were in the same section.

marvellousmaple · 12/08/2022 09:14

Hey !
All you people who think you were taught "rhythmn", are you all in the UK? Maybe you all had the same teacher? This one teacher has convinced you all!!! 😂😂

There’s a fruit called ugly fruit but it’s like a big lumpy orange.

Which incidentally (and in keeping with this thread) is spelled "Ugli Fruit"

Are any of you offended by the fact that there are many eponymous diseases, and those people that they are named after didn’t actually choose to have an awful disease bear their name

They probably did, diseases often bear the name of the doctor that first described the disease.

And my understanding is that it's quite an achievement to be the one who identified the condition, therefore being the one who began the process of learning how to treat it. Having the condition named for you is in honour of your important work in discovering it.

Slightly off topic but when did avocado pears become just avocados?

Excellent question!

How have I just accepted the loss of the 'pear' part?????

Eunorition · 12/08/2022 17:24

It's not a Mandela if only you make the mistake.

toomuchlaundry · 12/08/2022 17:27

@Eunorition quite a few of us have also made the same mistake as the OP

Most of us, as adults, should know the difference.

There's no point asking about anything unusual on here, minds are so narrow they are measured in nm. Fwiw I don't have a strong memory of it being rhythmn. But I do have other Mandela effects I have strong feelings about Grin

I love this stuff so I had a look and the bandana in Bruce's back pocket and the sunglasses during Tom's rock song are two that really got me.

You’re thinking of ‘autumn’.

I always think remuneration should be renumeration because it sounds like number.

Whaaaaaattttt!

I'm 49 and, no false modesty, I read and write a great deal, and have a large vocabulary.

I have been writing and saying "renumeration" my entire adult life 🤯

What is this one?

Don't know if this is still active, but yes I've just literally searched Google, because every time I write the word Rhythmn it auto corrects to drop the 'n'

I took music GCSE and I specifically remember (at least I'm certain) there being a silent 'n' because I recall thinking it was a weird word... you know Rhythm... why does it need the 'N'? But never the less... Rhythmn even looks right.

I'm glad I am not the only one who remembers this haahaa but duly noted... there is no 'n' (...anymore, anyway!)

Smallsalt · 06/08/2024 09:28

I am convinced that hoofs and roofs used to be hooves and rooves.

Atec · 07/08/2024 08:00

Autumn is probably the most plausible answer.
Rhythm is special in its own right it has no vowels. 😂

Hooves is still fine, rooves isn’t correct
