Can I wear crocs to drive?

Posting for traffic.

I have a driving lesson tomorrow and I'd usually wear my trainers to be safe, but it's bloody hot and I usually live in crocs (outside of lessons).

I know you shouldn't drive in flip flops, but are crocs safe?? Or shall I stick to trainers?

I know it's a minor problem, but I want to stay safe on the roads.

I think if you use the heel strap and can still feel the peddles you might be ok. I don't wear crocs but they might be too clunky.

Yeah course you can - I wear them to drive all the time

I don't find them good to drive in - because they're so spongy you don't get good feedback from the pedals.

Thank you. This is the reply I was looking for. As I said I know you shouldn't wear flip flops so I was unsure. I'm nervous enough as it is without worrying about my shoes!

Crocs are great shoes to drive in. Go for it

Oh. I wear Nike airforce 1s usually, so they are slightly thicker on the sole than my crocs

No don't. They're not wise to drive in anyway (too wide) But they're definitely unsafe for a learner driver. Wear your trainers, with trainer socks (if you have some). The aircon should keep your feet cool. You need to be concentrating on the road & catching your crocs on the pedals will not help.

Yes I live in crocs in the summer and always comfortably drive in them. (Strap on the back though)

My Crocs are my absolute preferred driving shoes. For me, they fit well and I find them just right on the pedals.I don't see that they're any more spongy or clunky than many pairs of trainers - but I definitely wear them with the strap pushed to the back of the heel.

I think it's just what you're used to, to be honest. I used to wear Birkenstocks a lot and would always kick them off and drive barefoot and that felt normal and natural - but I don't suppose it would be recommended by the DVLA or whoever.

I think there's a good chance your driving instructor won't like it though so maybe have a pair of trainers ready near the door. Probably your DI will never have driven in Crocs so will feel worried that it might be a hazard.

My instructor never uses aircon unfortunately. Also I hate trailer socks. Maybe I'll use my running trainers instead as they are lighter.

You definitely can drive in Crocs (that fit you and are fully attached to your feet) - I used to keep some in the car to drive home in when I would be wearing heels outside the car, as they are comfy and easy to slip on. However, I'm not sure I'd wear them to a driving lesson if I had trainers.

I also have the issue of not doing lessons from my own house, I have a 30 minute walk to and from my lesson (which is fine for me, but explaining why I can't change shoes if the instructor not happy)

why can’t you wear the crocs and carry your trainers with you in case?

I can do, I just have a lot to carry already. I think I'll do that. It seems like the best option

I wouldn't wear those monstrosities to hang out the washing, but from a safety point of view they're fine.

I'm driving bare foot at the moment, it's actually my preferred method but obviously not ideal in colder months!

You can’t drive in flip flops? I’ve just come back from the shop having driven in flip flops.

My instructor refused to let anyone drive if their shoes weren't secure. So if it was a sandal and it fastened around ankle that was fine. Are your crocs secure?

I doubt they will let you but you'll have to see.
