I've just been reduced to a puddle by the bit in Hunger Games where Katniss volunteers for Prim - you can feel both their panic for each other and it just gets me! gulp Reminds me of the bit in Empire of the Sun when Jamie is separated from his parents in the mob 😭 I feel like this sort of scene hits me harder since having my kids.

Call me bonkers but i love a good film cry, I find it really cathartic. So hit me! Any scene from any film that makes you ugly cry :)

Me before you - when he tells he her isn’t going to change his mind about assisted suicide

One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest

Chief sees McMurphy being returned to his bed. He greets him, elated that McMurphy had kept his promise not to escape without him, but notices McMurphy is unresponsive and physically limp, and discovers lobotomy scars on his forehead. Chief tearfully hugs McMurphy and says, "You're coming with me," before smothering him to death with a pillow. He then lifts the hydrotherapy console off the floor, smashes it through the window gates, and escapes alone, all while the remaining inmates, having been woken up by the glass breaking noise, watch and cheer him on.

And Ghost Dh and I sobbing at the end our tweens were 🙄

Bigoldmachine · 09/08/2022 12:48

“Dad, dad, wake up dad” in the lion king 😭
also yes dumbo, bambi. All the Disney dead parent stuff I suppose!

as pp said, that last scene in about time makes me blub like nothing else. So happy sad 😭

So many of these, plus...

The bit in Coco where the grandma is fading, but then he sings 'Remember Me' to her, and she starts joining in. Makes me gulp cry.

also in Coco the bit where Hector explains how he always thought he would be able to see Coco in the after life, but as she's the only one who remembers him, when she passes away he will disappear.

"I always hoped I'd see her again, that she'd miss me, maybe put up my photo… but it never happened. You know the worst part? Even if I never got to see Coco in the living world, I thought at least one day I'd see her here… give her the biggest hug… but she's the last person who remembers me. The moment she's gone from the living world..."

I cry at absolutely anything but the one thing that I thought of straight away was the scene in Australia with Nicole Kidman and Nahla. When he is being taken away by the police to the missionary islands and he's shouting for Mrs Boss and she's screaming that she'll find him and he tells her that he's going to sing for her (over the rainbow). God I could sob just thinking about it.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/08/2022 12:50

Ghost when she in reunited with him through Whoopi Goldberg

my sisters keeper when they realise she wants to die

ILoveYoga · 09/08/2022 12:51

Two for me
1 steel magnolias - when sally field is losing it at her daughter’s grave side and is just crying and saying such sad things. The grief seems so real and so strong

2 terms of endearment when Debra winger is saying goodbye to her children.

catwomando · 09/08/2022 12:52

The bit in mamma Mia when she's doing her daughter's hair before the wedding 'slipping through my fingers' , knowing that her little girl is all grown up and in a moment her childhood is over.

Every time.

YouBoggleMyMind · 09/08/2022 12:53

Ihaveamagicwand · 09/08/2022 12:04

The bit in Toy Story 3 when they all reach out to hold hands as they slide down towards the incinerator. Gets me every time.

This, 100% 😭😭

Mammyloveswine · 09/08/2022 12:55

The notebook when you realise it's Noah and Ally in the nursing home!

Stepmom... 😭😭😭

Ghost

Forconfessingonly · 09/08/2022 12:56

Definitely "Daddy, my daddy" in The Railway Children.

But nearly crying about a lot of those mentioned above, just from reading the descriptions! 😭

rainyskylight · 09/08/2022 12:58

Another vote for “Daddy my Daddy!”. It makes me cry just thinking about it.

StupidUsernameUnavailable · 09/08/2022 12:58

Sweet Home Alabama where she's at Bears grave and says "You were probably wondering what you had done wrong" when she left.

Marley and me when Owen Wilson says let me know when it's time and Marley looks at him.

😭😭😭😭

Notbluepeter · 09/08/2022 13:00

@ILoveYoga the same scene in terms of endearment for me too 😢

Pashazade · 09/08/2022 13:01

Yes Mama Mia and Slipping through my fingers, caught me out in the theatre when I saw it the first time, that and Chiquita, basically can't watch the damn thing now I spend all my time crying.
Ending of Moulin Rouge, Jessie's song in Toy Story 2.
Final scene of Blackadder goes Forth. Oh and the last Rose/Doctor episode on the beach, that's brutal!

sassyduck · 09/08/2022 13:03

Coco makes me cry throughout it

Coconutbutt · 09/08/2022 13:03

The Sixth Sense when he is telling his mum that his grandma came to watch her dance when she was little she just didn't know she was there.

Most of the film In America but mostly at the end when she tells her dad to say goodnight to the son/brother that they lost 😭

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 09/08/2022 13:04

Soubriquet · 09/08/2022 12:15

So many make me cry but I automatically thought of when Mrs Jumbo rocks Dumbo through the bars of her cage whilst baby mine is
being sung.

I’m crying now!

My lip might be wobbling now too! DP thinks I'm a right soft sod 😅😅

Laiste · 09/08/2022 13:05

The whole of The Green bloody Mile 😭

  • I read it when the book was published 26 years ago. SOBBED so hard through the ending i couldn't see to read. Swore I'd have nothing more to do with it.
  • Couple of years later Dfriend purseded me to go and see it at cinema when it came out 🙄 I SOBBED through the second half of it so hard that i made funny noises and made the neck of my top wet. I swore never again.
  • Years later DH wants to watch it on TV one night. I'm like .... oh ok, i'll try. Well i started to cry as soon as Tom Hanks goes out to visit the bloomin' mouse right at the start and we had to turn it off 🙄
No more! No more Green Mile in this house!
DillonPanthersTexas · 09/08/2022 13:07

I founds the end of Captain Phillips unexpectedly moving. He has been rescued from his kidnap and is undergoing a medical by the Navy doctor and she is asking him various questions and each of his answers is getting progressively more emotional as he is holding back the tears as the gravity of his ordeal begins to sink in.

Ihaveoflate · 09/08/2022 13:07

The whole of Truly, Madly, Deeply from beginning to end, but especially when Juliet Stevenson turns round from the piano to see Alan Rickman playing the cello in the flesh. She sobs and I sob!

RaininginDarling · 09/08/2022 13:10

KatherineJaneway · 09/08/2022 12:21

The ending of Ghost: It's amazing, Molly. The love inside, you take it with you.

Oh yes THIS! Another vote for About Time. And Steel Magnolias when Sally Fields loses her shit in that funeral scene.

Guilty pleasure: the first SATC film when Carrie runs downtown to join Miranda on NYE. It's the Mairi Campbell version of Auld Lang Syne that gets me.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 09/08/2022 13:11

The end of Gallipoli is heartbreaking.

NorthernSoul55 · 09/08/2022 13:12

2ndMrsdeWinter · 09/08/2022 12:08

Homeward Bound: the part where Peter has accepted Shadow’s death. Moments later, Shadow comes hobbling over the hill and into his human’s arms.

It has me sobbing every time.

I was going to post this! I must have seen it a hundred times (kids were obsessed) and I know what's going to happen but every time....
