This simply isn’t manageable for the majority of people.

Where’s this going to end?

Sir Kier is currently on holiday.
The politicians are like the school children , they are used to their recess and time off over the summer. I would hazard a guess that all of them are away somewhere. Boris Johnson only came back this week from his one.
The only two still going are Liz and Rishi !
Liz gave up her family holiday apparently

Liz should have gone and saved us all the misery of listening to her.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/08/2022 11:44

But you would think, given the cost of living crisis - they could have used the last four weeks to demonstrate well, be around, represent their constituents, do all the stuff that Brown has been doing for them while they are on their jollies.

Can we just call back all the last generation Labour politicians and cobble together an opposition government with the ones who worked for a living?

BarbaraofSeville · 12/08/2022 11:16

So an expensive fix. 60 p per unit compared with 27 p for the current price cap rate.

And no they don't want to take you (or anyone really) on as a customer if they won't make a profit out of that customer, which they don't really at the price cap.

Many suppliers have taken on a lot of extra customers from the failed suppliers so could well be operating beyond their capacity and might be struggling to service existing customers, let alone new ones.

The 60p seemed very much like a theme with quotes. That is why there are so many people totally bewildered now by the offers on foxed tariffs and where the anger is coming from. BG and EDF wouldn't even quote me actually

Can’t say I’m looking forward to Starmer’s monotones on return

At least Brown puts some oomph into it

It is like watching pain dry! I switch off when he comes on with his navy suit and monotonous tone. He could be describing the most interesting thing on the planet and I just can't hear him. They need someone better.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/08/2022 11:58

That video explaining what will happen if you don't pay your energy bills was also the same, I got fed up before it got to a minute.

How has it come to it that information that we could read and digest in about 30 seconds, and keep easily if we want to refer to it again earlier, is being presented as a 3 minute video?

forinborin · 12/08/2022 11:59

Have been quoted £9.2K for a 12 months fixed deal as my current has expired earlier this summer. Simply amazing.

Just wait till you hear our soon-to-be new prime minister.

Rishi isn’t working that hard, keep seeing him locally tootling about. He’s up north overseeing his swimming pool construction and cycling.

Not everyone has a degree in economics.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/08/2022 12:34

What's that got to do with anything?

You could literally take the words that he speaks, write them down in half a dozen bullet points, and just about all adults could read and understand them in about 30 seconds.

You sign a contract to pay.

If you don't pay they'll keep writing to you until you do.

If you don't pay after a few months they'll pass your account to debt collectors.

If you still don't pay, they'll take you to court and fit a prepayment meter to recover the debt.

If you don't pay then, you're not having any more electricity from us.

You don't need a degree in economics to read and understand that and you don't need some bloke speaking at snail's pace for 3 minutes either.

The problem with the DD is they are often use previous usage as a way of forecasting future spend. It works well in normal times but when there rising prices not so much.

Problem is it seems to ignore the simple fact that as prices get more expensive people typically will cut back on usage. So if you used 12k worth of gas last year, it will setup a new DD based on 12k gas rolling forwards. but instead you may only use 9k gas as your being much more careful with usage.

However your DD will be setup for 12k use, not 9k, and therefore be 25% too high.

Of course its possible the increases beyond this winter mean the forecasts are correct, even with the wrong methodology.

Exactly. That's why I pay on receipt of my monthly bill by DD. I know what each month is going to cost and I can adjust usage as need be.

I know that some companies are very generous with their predictions and are slow to respond to changes in customer behaviour.

Always have a go at Labour? Yeah, I bloody disappointed with them. Where the hell has Keir been for the last four weeks? Why is Gordon Brown doing all the heavy lifting when he isn't even an MP anymore? Where the fuck is the opposition - they are meant to be opposing?

Yes oppose, not give a shed load of ideas to the Tories to claim as their own.

Brown has already been rubbished by the Tories & some energy bosses.

I don't get the anger at Labour when this is a Tory manufactured problem, plenty of European Govts have introduced measures to shield their populations from the worst of this crisis.
The Conservatives have deliberately chosen to favour business over the poor/less well off.

But as usual we get "But Labour ....."

FourTeaFallOut · 12/08/2022 13:02

Give over. They don't want to share there ideas!

People voted for them to represent them in parliament. Labour MPs are expected to hold the government to account - to represent an alternative. Not sit at the back of the class with their hands over the working out. Fucking bullshit.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/08/2022 13:04

And you can rack that shit off. I've only ever voted Labour to date. I can't begin to tell you how much trust capital they have burned through for me to be so incredibly cross with their incompetence.

Parliament isn't sitting and the only people who change anything are too busy slagging each other off.

You are behaving as if Labour are in power.

No opposition, ever, gives out their manifesto 2 years plus before a GE.

By constantly slagging off Labour, all you are doing is helping ensure a Tory victory in 2024.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/08/2022 14:08

I'm not talking about a manifesto. I'm talking about them taking the crisis seriously and doing as least as much as Brown has over the last few weeks.

I'm certainly not talking about Labour being in power, I'm taking about their important job to hold the government to account. I'm talking about their role to represent those who feel hopeless by the situation which has worsened while they work on their tan.

Your bar for Labour may be so low that you consider it acceptable but I do not.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/08/2022 14:12

I don't want Labour to be in power with this shower. Unless there is a sea change between now and the next G.E. then I certainly won't vote for them. And I certainly won't apologise for my disappointment with them.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/08/2022 14:36

Parliament isn't sitting and the only people who change anything are too busy slagging each other off.

And yet, we are told Keir will awaken from his slumber on Monday - when Parliament will still not be sitting - now that Gordon Brown has shamed him back into action.

So it appears there was a point to being a voice to represent the people who are worried. But the absence of the opposition over these last frenetic week, the absence of an official opposing voice to defy provide another way through this crisis has left people so bereft/hopeless/unrepresented they are signing up to crack pot mechanisms of objection that will leave them poorer as their credit ratings take a nose dive. Shameful.

AndreaC74 · 12/08/2022 14:54

Shown your true colours then, a Tory.

Plenty of shadow ministers have been on the TV/Radio

I would prefer a more intelligent response from Labour than the mash up we've had from the Tories.

You carry on supporting the cons.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/08/2022 15:03

Yeah, that's exactly what I said 🙄

Admittedly Rachel Reeves has been in the news in the last day or so, talking about how awful pre-payment meters are - which they are, but that's just the tip of this energy iceberg.

But you go ahead with the black and white thinking, anyone not on script is a Tory - how's that working out for you?
