to fill up our small paddling pool?

Okay quick poll...who is going to fill their toddlers paddling pools? We put water into ours this morning, half filled and then I read an email from our water company thanking everyone for saving water and encouraging us to shower less and now I'm filled with guilt and shame. I feel like the neighbours are all going from behind their blinds 'look at those ignorant arseholes at number **' 🫣

How often do you think public swimming pools replace their water?!

More frequently than every four(+) months.

Public swimming pools don't even change the water when someone pops in it, or is sick in it!

And this
It's not wasting water if she's paying for it

It's a finite resource at the moment, whether we pay for it or not. There's no rain forecast for the next few weeks at least.
When it's gone it's gone.

It poured down here yesterday and has rained most days this week.

Again, until the water companies start fixing all the leaks, what difference does it make if someone re-fills their paddling pool?

This report was published in June 2020:

The overall volume of water being leaked has fallen by 216 million litres per day – enough to fill 86 Olympic size swimming pools – to 2,954 million litres.

www.water.org.uk/news-item/water-companies-record-lowest-leakage-levels-from-pipes/

The amount we use is miniscule in comparison to that!

ONCE i've washed the car, car washes are still open here. Car washes and firms are wasting far much water, than me washing my car once in 3 months.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 07/08/2022 12:09

Our children deserve to stay cool in this heat. We don't all live by the seaside

No one deserves anything. Sure, it's nice to cool down in a paddling pool - but there's a water crisis!
Take them to the local baths

ReeseWitherfork · 07/08/2022 12:11

We were all told to be careful with water. No one seemed to give a fuck. And now we’ve got a hosepipe ban. I don’t really care, shame I can’t water the plants but hey ho. But still scary to think what the next step is.

(Sorry, by “we” I’m referring to people local to me, not the whole country.)

Fill up your paddling pool for sure but don’t also clean your car, water your flowers and then turn the sprinkler on the lawn.

MsTSwift · 07/08/2022 12:14

Hot tub water recommended to last 3 - 4 months we chlorinate and balance the ph every 3 days

Littleraindrop15 · 07/08/2022 12:15

I dont think car washes will be closed for business it says the hosepipe ban doesn't affect businesses

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/08/2022 12:22

Save water in other ways:

Use washing up bowl in sink and use water after to water plants.
Only flush loo after a poop or after 3 times of urinating.
Use a brick in the toilet cistern.
Quick shower, use the plug in the bath to collect water.
Quick wash on, for washing machine.
Veg patch and hanging baskets watered every 2 days.

Washed car 1st time in months, get moaned at by people on MN 🙄

waterlego · 07/08/2022 12:31

Surprised that someone thought public swimming pools completely drain and replace the water more frequently than every four months. Every 5-7 years is about standard, I think.

chilliesandspices · 07/08/2022 12:32

My neighbour has her grandson in a tiny toddler paddling pool today. I think I use more water than that in a shower and I don't take particularly long showers. I can't get worked up about it.

pigletsbiggestfan · 07/08/2022 12:39

I've filled our small one but told the kids they can't have the big one this week.

We'll use the water to water the plants in a few days time

alphons · 07/08/2022 12:40

HellaFitzgerald · 07/08/2022 11:12

Just fill it up OP, it's nobody's business but yours x

Spot the Tory 🙄

Let me guess: anyone claiming any form of assistance from the government for anything (apart - of course - from you when it comes to the NHS and schools and, should the worst happen, any disability allowance - because that’s different, right?) should be mandatorily deported to Rwanda asap?

Oblomov22 · 07/08/2022 12:43

I'm surprised a hosepipe ban hasn't already been announced.

tokyotea · 07/08/2022 12:43

We've had ours out. Half filled and used it for the plants after. It's fine I think.

I'm surprised a hosepipe ban hasn't already been announced.

Already in place in Hampshire and IOW.

Coming into effect next Thursday for Kent and Sussex.

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/08/2022 12:45

Dogs paddling pool is only 1/3 filled, enough for them to splash in.

That's a lot of assumption from a 10-word post. I've also never voted Conservative in my life. What were you trying to achieve by posting that?

Hidingawaytoday · 07/08/2022 12:58

We only have a small one but I'm going to put some water in it this week, not loads as DD is only little but just enough to splash about in.

ItIsMyName · 07/08/2022 11:47

YABVU, England is already water stressed and another heat wave is predicted. Paddling pools, clean cars and gardens aren’t essential and there is a risk of supply being restricted. Even Scotland and Wales are putting restrictions in place to protect supply.

No restrictions in Scotland- been raining all week anyway!

I was wondering that too, I've never voted Tories either.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/08/2022 13:06

I believe some 'celebrities' bathe in Perrier or Evain water.

Could you do that? Might cost a bit though!

germsandcoffee · 07/08/2022 13:23

I will be filling our small paddling pool whenever the weather is hot this school holidays.
Our kids need fun after a shit few years and my house seems to be where all the neighbours kids come hang out so at least it will be played in by many instead of lots of little pools in different gardens.

user1497787065 · 07/08/2022 13:24

We should all be metered and then we would be more likely to use water economically in the same way as we use electricity.

Silverswirl · 07/08/2022 13:26

I fill up my large pool that stays up all summer.
However, the kids all use that instead of having a shower for at least 1/2 the week. So in my mind it saves around 12-15 showers and actually saves water
