To ask how much your current power costs are?

I hate to ask but with this being headline news every day I am wondering how much this will personally affect me. I’m hearing £3000 a year etc but don’t know what this will mean for me. Is anybody willing to share their current costs and if they know how much they are likely to.pay when costs increase. So the flexible tariff folk - what are you predicting based on your current usage etc.

I am with Eon for gas and electric. I have a smart meter and I am currently paying around £70 per month. Eon set my DD as £105 so I am hoping to build in a bit of a buffer.

Last couple of months bills have been just over £100 but DD set at £180 to try and build up some credit for winter.

YesJess · 10/08/2022 19:31

Mine was recently put up from £86 to £150 for a one bedroom maisonette. Scottish Power. They said it was to build a buffer and I'm keeping it at that for now.

Pesimistic · 10/08/2022 19:43

£100 a month both gas and electric

trashcansinatra · 10/08/2022 19:48

Last week, £7.47 electricity and £12.17 gas.
On octopus standard tariff but with solar panels which make electricity cheaper.

No heating needed, probably 4 showers a day plus water for washing up etc. on gas combi for water.

Out direct debit is £250pm but we have worked out the impact of solar yet as it only went in a few weeks ago

Here's ours. 4 bed detached bungalow.

I'm currently paying £150/month DD. I'm in credit and obviously usage during the summer is much less. That's two people in an old 4 bed house, but with new windows & doors, good loft insulation and a recently replaced roof.

My water heating (gas) is only on 10 mins a day. Electricity usage is more, but no air con or tumble dryer. I have a log burner to supplement heating in the winter and have built up a whole shed full of dry wood ready for the cold weather.

I'm going to leave it at £150 a month for now, and see how I get on.

BishFish · 11/08/2022 12:59

Around £110 for a 3 bed, with 5 of us in. I did take a fixed rate deal, until July, about two months ago though which put us at about 27% above the standard rate, so it was lower before.

We are in a new build though which is energy efficient. For example, the heating upstairs didn’t come on at all in winter as temperature didn’t go below thermostat settings, although downstairs did for a few hours a day.

Summerhouse2013 · 11/08/2022 13:03

3 bedroom semi, EDF put up our direct debit to £250 a month for gas/electricity. We are so much in credit they actually refunded £540 back in to our bank account last month.
Used be 4 of us living here, now there's only 2, hence not using as much gas/electricity

Butterlover1 · 11/08/2022 13:04

2 adults, 2 kids, someone always at home.

20yo 4 bed detached house with wall and loft insulation

Went from fixed deal at £121pm to £265 pm in April when the fixed rate ended

PollyEsther · 11/08/2022 18:33

Truthfully? I'm not paying anything at the moment as it is boiling so our gas usage is virtually zero, and we have solar panels which mean we are generating more electricity than we use.

This is, however, very short term and we have a small credit on the account that will cover the standing charge for the quarter. Come next month I will set up a DD again, at £100pcm for gas and £125pcm for electricity. I may lower the electricity if the government help makes it look like we'll build significant credit.

5 bed semi-detached, family of 6. We are on a fix until February 2024 at the current cap prices, for which I am eternally grateful.

dementedpixie · 06/08/2022 11:41

My Current prices (variable rate) are:

Electricity 27.84p/kwh and 49.38p s/c
Gas 7.33p/kwh and 27.22p s/c

Monthly amount is a bit meaningless as it depends on your usage.

Sound like mine - bulb?

ive moaned about this on various threads but seem to have average of 12/14 e a day a month

not sure how some manAnge 4 a day

so current bill is around 175 and pay 250 dd to try and cover some of winter

basically whatever you paid double it and minus a little

erikbloodaxe · 11/08/2022 19:08

£338 duel tariff.

Will not be working it out as my head is stuck in the sand.

PrimrosesandPears · 11/08/2022 19:15

We’re paying £600 a month but that includes lots of arrears after one provider went bust and the takeover didn’t start billing us for almost a year. So I’m hoping even with the massive price hikes we won’t have to up the DD even more.

USaYwHatNow · 11/08/2022 22:04

3 bed end terrace. I'm a full time NHS worker and my husband works abroad and has since Jan this year. Our Scottish Energy direct debit is £78/month but we recently paid our quarterly bill of £160 top up and we're approx £180 in credit still.

FuncaMunca · 11/08/2022 22:12

£450 monthly for electricity (EDF). It was £86 monthly before that but then shot up this summer. The increase is due to arrears apparently.

I no longer turn on the lights Sad
