Background: I have severe emetophobia and my anxiety is through the roof and beyond, so please no nasty comments. 😓

Toddler DD threw up randomly Tuesday night, was only sick once then perfectly fine. Last night (48 hrs later) older DD was sick. This morning DP has thrown up.

I am just waiting now for my turn. It's inevitable that the bug will get me, isn't it? 😞

DP thinks I could be OK as it was him who cleaned up toddler DD's sick on Tues and not me, and he looked after her all day the next day while I went to work. But I'm not so sure.

Im so scared. If it's going to happen I just want it over asap. 😢😢😢

Im 0-

I can't tell you the amount of times my children have had the vomiting bug. One mothers day i had both kids and husband vomiting.

I've not caught it once. You may not either.

@EnidSpyton that’s interesting about the Thrive programme. I’m a life long emetophobe and tried various therapies over the years but I’m worse than ever. I’ve been considering Thrive but I’ve got to be ready for it.

EnidSpyton · 05/08/2022 23:20

@bendmeoverbackwards I would honestly recommend it to anyone suffering from a phobia or other psychological issue. It’s genuinely life changing.

You absolutely do have to be ready though because you have to be prepared to do the work on yourself - if you’re not committed and in the right headspace then you won’t see the results.

For me it got to the point where I was so fed up of having my life restricted by my fear that I was prepared to do anything. And it was hard and continues to be hard - changing the way you think is an ongoing process and you still have down days that are tough - but it’s so so worth it. I paid for a coach as I knew it wouldn’t work for me to just do it on my own and it was genuinely worth every penny.

Please feel free to send me a message if you’d like more details.

I have severe Emetophobia but not for me, I'm fine with me throwing up, it's hearing/seeing others throw up. I can't even drive my uncle who lives with us anywhere, he gets very bad car sickness and can't stop thinking about it for days before we go anywhere with him and I dread it and cancel on him.

You could have put a warning on the title. Ffs you aren't the only emetophobe

mycatisannoying · 06/08/2022 00:58

Hope you manage to stay healthy, OP Flowers
Out of interest, were you ever sick during pregnancy?

namechangemam · 06/08/2022 08:12

So far so good. No vomiting. I'm thinking this means I've probably escaped. 🤞🏻

@mycatisannoying

Severe nausea and lots of dry heaving in pregnancy (it was utterly grim), but no actual vomiting. I was prescribed antiemetic meds throughout to help with it, which may have prevented the vomiting.

The first line of my OP is "I have severe emetophobia....."

You didn't need to read past that line, surely.

Woah I wished you well - no need to be so sensitive! I just meant that to me having emetophobia and having children sounds like having a phobia of spiders and moving to rural Australia. I have a phobia of slugs and certainly don't venture where they're likely to be when it's damp. I was bemused, not critical. jesus.

Because ‘not going where there might be slugs’ is on a par with ‘never having children’?!

namechangemam · 06/08/2022 10:32

@FirewomanSam

Yep. Ridiculous comparison isn't it!
