Lighthearted. Chickpea curry for dinner tonight. I got some naans to go with it. DP says he wants rice too. AIBU in saying it's one or the other? Not rice AND naan?

I have curry, rice, naans, poppadoms and onion rings 🤣

AlisonDonut · 03/08/2022 15:46

You are wrong. Pop that rice on!

JustTheOneSwan · 03/08/2022 15:47

It's a puzzler. Rice and naan is wrong because the rice drinks all the gravy but rice and noodles is compulsory.
so double carbs depends on cuisine.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 03/08/2022 15:47

Of course rice and naan

NiqueNique · 03/08/2022 15:48

We have rice and naan.

Other times we have rice, naan and poppadoms.

Hugasauras · 03/08/2022 15:48

YABVU. Rice and naan are musts.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 03/08/2022 15:48

I'd rather a lil naan and a lil rice rather than commit to one.

Dartmoorcheffy · 03/08/2022 15:48

Rice, naan and salad with curry

Suedomin · 03/08/2022 15:49

Definitely rice and naan

SpiderVersed · 03/08/2022 15:49

Both is fine, lots of people like both. I like chapatis best myself, DH perfers some rice with his along with the bread, which he mostly only has to mop up the juices.

Soubriquet · 03/08/2022 15:49

Rice and naan yes.

I only have rice and curry as I don’t like Naan or poppadoms but rice and naan is the way

LadyVictoriaSponge · 03/08/2022 15:49

Curry with just naan is basically a thick soup and some bread!

Itreallyistimetogo · 03/08/2022 15:50

Both, always! And poppadoms too.

Ontomatopea · 03/08/2022 15:50

One or the other especially if its chickpeas

bluekostree · 03/08/2022 15:50

Always both!

10HailMarys · 03/08/2022 15:50

I usually go for one or the other because otherwise I end up eating way too much and I'm someone who has to keep an eye on their weight - but I'm sure plenty of people have both without being greedy. There's no either/or rule here!

If he wants rice and you don't want to cook an extra thing if it's only him eating it (which is totally fair enough!) then suggest he cooks his own rice. But I don't think it's unreasonable for him to want both if he's got a big appetite.

hedgehoglurker · 03/08/2022 15:51

Both is definitely reasonable and preferable.

Piggieinthemiddle · 03/08/2022 15:51

YABU. Paratha > Naan.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 03/08/2022 15:52

Oooh is paratha the yummy flaky one? If so, put me down for one of those.

GoPogo · 03/08/2022 15:55

Has to be both. You need naan to dip in the curry sauce. It's the law! ( And if it isn't, it should be )
I can't imagine telling another adult one or the other.

TheBestSpoon · 03/08/2022 15:55

Both! For homemade curry we have the mini naans from Tesco gussied up with a bit of garlic butter and rice. For takeaway, DH, preschooler DS and I share two naans and a pilau rice and DS and I will have some poppadoms. TBH, I could do without the rice in that context, but DH eats 90% of it anyway (and doesn't have poppadoms because he's silly...).

MolkosTeenageAngst · 03/08/2022 15:56

When I was living in India we always always had rice with the main meal and then usually had chapati/ roti as well. Sometimes instead of chapati you’d have naan, poppadoms, paratha, uttapam etc but I don’t think it was ever instead of rice, rice was always an option.

I’d say rice and naan is like a roast dinner, you can have roast beef and roast potatoes with or without the Yorkshire pudding but you’re unlikely to have roast beef and Yorkshire's without the roast potatoes. You can have a curry and rice with or without naan/ bread but not a curry with bread and no rice.

Tinktravels · 03/08/2022 15:57

Yabvu why would you begrudge him some rice 🤣

elp30 · 03/08/2022 15:58

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 03/08/2022 15:48

I'd rather a lil naan and a lil rice rather than commit to one.

The diplomatic approach. I like it!

Retrievemysanity · 03/08/2022 15:58

Both. And an additional curry. And Bombay potato side. And probably saag paneer too.
