Sitting in the loft in a bag. Over 25 years old. No daughters Etc. It just seems ridiculously sentimental. You know it was nice Etc but it’s just some fabric.

did anyone bin theirs

Donate to charity

MumTrain · 03/08/2022 07:54

A chastity shop might take it if it’s in good condition.

MatildaTheCat · 03/08/2022 07:54

I still ld mine but Oxfam have a whole website devoted to wedding dresses so don’t bin it, donate it. Someone else might love it too.

ValerieDoonican · 03/08/2022 07:56

Chastity shop is perfext for a wedding dress I would think @MumTrain 😆

ClottedCreamAndStrawberries · 03/08/2022 07:58

I donated mine to a charity that makes outfits for stillborn babies. You can find lots of them online. It has to be dry cleaned first.

Ontomatopea · 03/08/2022 07:59

Echoing PP donate it

gamerchick · 03/08/2022 08:00

Donate it as has been said. Material can be reused.

rainyskylight · 03/08/2022 08:01

Any chance of grand daughters in the future? Would be thrilling for them to dress up in it.

Thatsenoughnow · 03/08/2022 08:01

Donate. Vintage is a big thing at the moment.

blobby10 · 03/08/2022 08:01

Donated mine to Oxfam when 20 year marriage ended. It was a typical early 90's puffy dress so can't imagine any bride today would like it but there was a lot of material so maybe someone would have used it.

KarlWrenbury · 03/08/2022 08:13

Oh god I’m not dry cleaning it. It was hand made.would charities want?

A chastity shop? Thought they'd be more interested in belts than dresses? 🤣😉

Dinoteeth · 03/08/2022 08:18

Charity might want it.

Depending on the fabric ie if its polyester it might be washable in a standard washing machine.

But fashions come back round you may have a DGD who could wear it in the future. Even Princess Bea raided her Grannies wardrobe for her dress and had a few alterations.

RoseAndRose · 03/08/2022 08:19

Get rid, by all means.

YABU to think of binning it when you could give it to a charity shop, or even oput it in rags recycling.

Please don't send to landfill

Dotcheck · 03/08/2022 08:20

Jesus- why oh why would you put it in landfill when you can charity shop it? 😩

MissMaple82 · 03/08/2022 08:20

You don't bin anything, you DONATE TO CHARITY. Do you know the world is consumed by unnecessary rubbish?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/08/2022 08:20

I wore a green silk cocktail dress to my wedding nearly 30 years ago and kept it so I could wear it again. However I'm several sizes bigger now, and am never going to get back into it. I'm considering having it made into a cushion cover. That way I get the memory of the wedding in a way I don't with the dress sitting in the loft.

BrandNewBicep · 03/08/2022 08:22

I gave mine to a local am dram theatre who were very grateful.

The lowest effort way to get rid of things IME is freecycle, it takes 30 seconds to take a photo and write a one line description, then someone will pick it up. Means you don't have to make a trip to the charity shop.

Please do this and also as I never got to thank the person who donated their dress to be made into a outfit and blanket for my son.

Thank you ❤️

It made me happy knowing he was sleeping in something that was last worn on a day just of pure love. It made the worst time of my life just a ounce better.

dancinfeet · 03/08/2022 08:25

donate it to a charity shop- if the style is too dated to be used as a wedding dress, no doubt as said above an am dram group would be thrilled to make use of it.

NashvilleQueen · 03/08/2022 08:28

Some charity shops (especially hospice ones) sort out wedding outfits for those in end of life care. Perhaps see if they might want it?

I donated to this charity they open their booking slots a couple of times a year. I do have daughters but am separated so didn't want the dress hanging around. Plus they are very alternative so won't go for traditional if they ever decide to get married!
