Infertility is ruining my life 😭

Hey , I appreaciate if you read it and give me some comfort !
I am 31 years of age , unexplained infertile issues ! I have battled with infertility for 6 years . I have had 6 pregnancy’s losses , all early at 6 weeks . 5 natural , 1 ivf .

i had recurrent losses so I though ivf would be good game changer but I had 1 round of ivf and got pregnant and lost it at the same time as my natural pregnancy’s ! I was broken ! I had extra drugs ect in ivf so I thought that this would help but no …

I just feel so damaged and broken , I don’t know what to do ! I have another ivf cycle coming up soon but I don’t know why that would be any different !

the only abnormal test result I had was my uterus (womb) is bicornuate ! Heart shaped ! But doctor said that this does not cause very early losses but can cause problems later in pregnancy ! But mine are so early so it can’t be this .
other bloods have been perfect from hormones to sperm samples . They don’t know what’s wrong ! They think it could be chromosome maybe but I had losses in my early 20’s so I wouldn’t expect bad eggs in my 20’s plus 6 in a row too , that would be extremely rare ! This is all I think about and I’m worried about my age too because maybe I’ll never have a baby !
what would you do ?
thanks !! Xxx ❤️

Have you been referred to a specialist clinic?

MakeMineALarge1 · 01/08/2022 19:11

I had 4 miscarriages, all at 6 weeks, I was put on progesterone supplements by my Gynaecologist to help maintain the hormone level, but he did say there was very mixed evidence and this was nearly 14 years ago, so things may have changed.

AliTheMinx · 01/08/2022 19:15

I am so very sorry to hear this and you have my every sympathy. Infertility is so tough. I would also suggest seeing a fertility specialist, if you can afford it, or ask for a referral. I have PCOS and was prescribed Metformin for the first trimester to help me to carry the baby successfully. Sending lots of love and I really hope that everything works out for you.

ShareLove · 01/08/2022 19:21

@MakeMineALarge1 hey , yes I had ivf and was on progesterone and still it didn’t work 😣
and I have been to fertility clinic and all nhs testing came back normal ! So I’m lost on what to do ….

So sorry to hear this, and I wish you every luck for the next ivf. I had infertility problems for 4 years eventually resulting in the birth of my son. It is all consuming, if the next ivf is with frozen embryos hopefully you can have two put in and this will increase your chances. I hope the doctors can give you some advice to help you with the next cycle. Sending love

TheGlitterFairy · 01/08/2022 19:43

Was the progesterone the pessaries? If yes then ask for the intramuscular injection of it - apparently it’s the “gold standard” of progesterone. The injections aren’t particularly pleasant (this one specifically) but might be something to try on your next round.

NumberTheory · 01/08/2022 19:45

OP are you getting any counseling that might help you come to terms with infertility?

While there seems to be an inherent drive to have children, a lot of the anguish women with infertility experience is down to internalised ideas we have about ourselves and what our lives should be like. Unpicking this and developing other ways of looking at your life that do not rely on you having kids may help stop infertility from seeming like it’s ruining your life. You can still pursue fertility treatment, just not, perhaps, have so much of your own idea of your value and future happiness invested in its result.

SlickShady · 01/08/2022 19:59

I'm sorry for your pain. It's 100% understandable and I've seen it from up close (though not personally experienced it TG). All I can do is send you good thoughts and hope you manage to come to some breakthrough.

ShareLove · 01/08/2022 20:06

@TheGlitterFairy hey thanks ! And he’s I had the progesterone injection and the pessaries and still didn’t help 😣

@NumberTheory hey , I haven’t had any councelling , but I don’t want to come to terms with my infertility as I feel like I’m 31 years old and I still have time to find other tests to try before giving up completely 🥺❤️

I’m sorry for what you’re going through OP.

I had three miscarriages in a row and eventually went private to see Dr Hassan Shehata. If that isn’t an option for you people also speak very highly of Professor Siobhan Quenby and, I believe, she runs a free clinic.

whatever you choose, please be kind to yourself.

Cambridgegirl90 · 01/08/2022 20:21

So sorry to hear about your losses.
I also experienced 6 multiple successive losses and I also have a heart-shaped uterus, so I understand how devastating it is.
I was fortunate enough to see an amazing consultant and was diagnosed with hyper-fertility. If you are falling pregnant easily it might be something to look into? I was prescribed progesterone pessaries and daily aspirin and I eventually gave birth to a bouncing baby boy (although did unfortunately lose his twin).
I was also much older (39) with an even older partner .
I really wish you the best.

ShareLove · 01/08/2022 20:24

@Cambridgegirl90 hey thanks for your message ! I am so sorry to hear you had the same horrible experience ! But just to say that I am not hyper fertile as I get pregnanct only 1 time a year . Xxx glad you got your happy ending and sorry to hear about the twin xxx

@Snoopysimaginaryfriend hey thanks for your message ! I have heard a lot about the immune side of things so my consultant is giving me steroids for next ivf trasfer , this is what Dr. sheata would prescribe . Xx so hopefully this will work as it’s only difference I’ll be making xx

Yes another vote for Shehata or Quenby. Be aware though that this route which investigates natural ‘killer’ cells is expensive and time consuming. Not to mention the emotional
toll it can take.

My cousin had a bicornuate uterus and lost about 8 pregnancies at between 6-8 weeks over a few years. She then had surgery on her uterus, waited a year, and had a baby the next time she conceived, followed by another baby 3 years later.

Don't be fobbed off by someone saying the bicornuate uterus isn't causing the MCs.

Good luck ❤️

Applegreenb · 01/08/2022 20:32

I had a friend who had multiple early losses with a heart shaped uterus. The thought this was the case and did a corrective surgery. Once pregnant they then needed a stitch in their cervix as it’s weakened and massive increase risk of pre term labour.

i would 100% for a private or second opinion on the heart shaped uterus.

sorry you are having to go through this, wishing you all the best what ever you decide to do

You do have time. And fertility treatment is improving all the time. Coming to terms with the possibility you wont have kids isn’t the same as giving up on trying to have them.

It just helps minimize the negative emotional impact of the difficulties you face in trying. You say it’s ruining your life. Infertility doesn’t have to do that, whether your journey ends up with you managing to have kids or not. Counseling could help you with this.

ILoveTwix · 01/08/2022 21:17

Hi OP! I have a unicornuate/bicornuate uterus (differing opinions from different doctors based on scans and investigations). I have the opposite issue to you- I can't get pregnant without fertility treatments (IVF) but once pregnant I do manage to have the baby. I hope this doesn't upset you as it's not intended that way, but did want to reassure you it is possible when the uterus is not the 'traditional' shape or size.

Definitely get other opinions about your uterus or investigations in to your MCs so you have the full picture. I was very shocked to be told mine was unicornuate, even more so to then get a different opinion of bicornuate and to this day I still don't know 100% what the issue is as each clinic stands by their judgement 🤷‍♀️

Best of luck with everything.

ShareLove · 01/08/2022 21:17

@WhichBitchIsWhich hey thank you ! My consultant said that it looks like I have biocornuate uterus heart shaped and he said there is nothing that can be done about this kind of shape … well they are not 100% sure as normal ultrasound scan doesn’t show it very well , they just belive by what they are seeing , it’s this kind of uterus and nothing can be done . Xx

I've been there, and thankfully came out the other side with success story. It is all-consuming and unless you've experienced it you cannot imagine what it is like. I really feel for you.
Have you had a specialist look at your case, soneone who specialises in early losses? (private, not NHS where protocols are usually one size fits all). With early losses I'd be thinking immune issue or chromosomal. There are options for you but I would get indepth analysis of your case before proceeding with another ivf cycle. Wishing you all the best x

I'll ask my cousin exactly what her situation was when I see her at the weekend but from memory, there was a section of tissue in the middle of her uterus that didn't have sufficient blood vessels for a placenta to attach and grow? Don't quote me on this because it was a decade ago but I'm fairly sure that was it. She had surgery (on the NHS) to remove that section of tissue and her next pregnancy was successful.

Hi just wanted to say I had the test for natural killer cells (£600) then went on prednisolone steroids for IVF which worked twice for me. Said I was only borderline high but decided to go for it to avoid losses. Went to the Lister clinic. Not for everyone but worth looking into. Good luck!
