To ask what people think of their free Gusto boxes?

As lots of people were sharing codes last week I thought I'd try a box - I've had some from Hello Fresh before - to see how they compared.

Mine arrived today - I had a text yesterday giving a 2 hour delivery window and the box arrived within that - one up on Hello Fresh which only gives a 12 hour window and the couriers don't always knock so I don't know how long a box has been on the doorstep.

The contents are all there although the herbs and spinach look a little tired. THe chilled items came in a cardboard chiller box which would be good for taking things on a self catering trip/picnic or could otherwise be recycled.

Recipe cards are easy to follow and tonights meal - herby rice with basa fillet was really nice - fish portions are more generous than Hello Fresh.

The down points were that the recipes were less interesting to choose from than Hello Fresh a lot of pasta and rice dishes and not that many veggie options. Also Hello Fresh boxes divide up the ingredients between recipes so you have four bags each containing what you need for a dish with one further bag with any ingredients to be shared between recipes. Much easier to sort out and put away.

So I'm happy as they delivered what they said they would when they said they would and it tastes fine. Not sure I'd buy a full priced box though and am still pondering about 30% off or not - that might depend on whether or not I can also claim my voucher code credit.

Anyone else?

I've used Gousto for over a year and I love it. I think the recipes and quality is better than Hello Fresh.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 02/08/2022 18:09

We alternate between guosto and hello fresh both have their positives and areas for improvement but overall are great for different meals.

They both now charge delivery which is frustrating

I have code for a free guosto box for 4 meals for 4 people
I have a hello fresh code that gives a heavily discounted box so a 2 meals for 2 people is £4.99 free delivery.

PM if wanting a code

SummerDays2020 · 02/08/2022 18:10

I've used both in the past. I find a bigger range of veggie meals with Gusto but more pre-prepared meals like ready made burgers and meals with veggie mince, whereas with Hello Fresh it is meals made from fresh vegetables, lentils, cheese etc. So I would agree more interesting and also healthy than Gusto. I also like the meals being separated into paper bags (paper bags can be reused) and also less packaging like for example with Gusto each egg is packaged seperately. I like the smaller recipe cards of Gusto, though.

With both the portion sizes are gigantic. I order for 2 to feed 3.

i now have gousto codes to give away - PM me 😁

So box has arrived and already being repurposed and crafted into a huge plane by my littlest. I wonder what he’ll make with next weeks?!

Chicken tinga Tagos were a success. Well fowl if the children didn’t eat them but I expected that. One child did though. Had to YouTube how to chop a spring onion, shred a gem lettuce and how to do pulled chicken.

Next time will be quicker.

Its given me some ideas for meals but I’d prob buy it in shops rather than subscribe once I know what we like. Would have been plenty for all five of us.

QuestionableMouse · 02/08/2022 19:37

Mine arrived too! Think I prefer the hello fresh system with stuff bagged in meals though!

I got a nice wooden spoon as a bonus so I'm pleased with that 😁

One of my recipe cards was missing though unfortunately so I've contacted them. Food looks nice and I'm looking forward to trying it!

CornishTiger · 02/08/2022 19:43

Agree. It was a pain going through the big bag of sachets.

Do they do a folder for the recipe cards?

You should be able to find it on their website as well. In case they don't get back to you

Hi! It's just me and my 4 year old in the house he's a little but picky would this be suitable for us to try or is it more for families of 3/4? Been interested in trying one for a while but worried ill he stuck eating it all myself 🙈

You can pick 2 portions per meal. What's the worse that can happen is you will have some leftovers for lunch?

CornishTiger · 02/08/2022 19:57

Just for info. Recipe folder in market place items for free.

CornishTiger · 02/08/2022 19:58

@whatdodos yes boxes for 2 or 4. However if you have a code for a 100% free one maximise it by order 4 x portion ones. You can always freeze the meat.

@CornishTiger thanks for reminding everyone not to post codes - MN has said that they will delete messages with codes to keep the thread up which is great - pleased one of your DC would eat the box...

To those whose boxes have been cancelled - I'm really sorry but the point of the thread was to review the experience so at least other are warned.

@SummerDays2020 - thank you - you've put your finger on exactly what I thought but wasn't able to articulate!
