To ask what people think of their free Gusto boxes?

As lots of people were sharing codes last week I thought I'd try a box - I've had some from Hello Fresh before - to see how they compared.

Mine arrived today - I had a text yesterday giving a 2 hour delivery window and the box arrived within that - one up on Hello Fresh which only gives a 12 hour window and the couriers don't always knock so I don't know how long a box has been on the doorstep.

The contents are all there although the herbs and spinach look a little tired. THe chilled items came in a cardboard chiller box which would be good for taking things on a self catering trip/picnic or could otherwise be recycled.

Recipe cards are easy to follow and tonights meal - herby rice with basa fillet was really nice - fish portions are more generous than Hello Fresh.

The down points were that the recipes were less interesting to choose from than Hello Fresh a lot of pasta and rice dishes and not that many veggie options. Also Hello Fresh boxes divide up the ingredients between recipes so you have four bags each containing what you need for a dish with one further bag with any ingredients to be shared between recipes. Much easier to sort out and put away.

So I'm happy as they delivered what they said they would when they said they would and it tastes fine. Not sure I'd buy a full priced box though and am still pondering about 30% off or not - that might depend on whether or not I can also claim my voucher code credit.

Anyone else?

Underripe fruit and the smallest cloves of garlic I have ever seen but apart from that looks good

We had the cheeseburgers tonight as it’s tidy up Monday so something easy - the oregano ruined the burgers as too over powering so I’d recommend leaving that out but not bad

Thanks for the oregano tip

I love Gousto - I mainly choose from the 10 minute section because by the time I do dinner I'm knackered and cba; after 2-3 years of ordering I've only ever had one meal I didn't like!

Sorry, I meant 3 not 4!

Mine is coming tomorrow and I'm quite excited. Hope I won't be disappointed

Is 35 vegetarian meals out of 76 “not many veggie options? 🤔

DreamingofItaly2023 · 02/08/2022 07:05

I have a code, feel free to PM me if you would like it :)

Neverhot · 02/08/2022 08:16

I would love a code if someone would be so kind to pm me one? Thank you

HardRockOwl · 02/08/2022 08:25

I'll just be pleased when the gousto threads go away. So so spammy

everylittlehelp5 · 02/08/2022 08:26

I've had both and I much prefer Gousto for how everything is packaged and delivered to you.

However, I find the Hello Fresh meals much tastier and more flavourful.

I don't like the Hello Fresh recipe cards, the ones from Gousto are better quality.

LivMumsnet · 02/08/2022 12:02

Morning all. We've had a few reports about folk posting spammy links on here which isn't in the spirit of the thread. The OP has been in touch to clarify that the thread was purely intended for folk to share their thoughts on boxes they receive. For this reason, can people refrain from posting links please? We'll zap any that we see. Thanks. Smile

Lunabelle21 · 02/08/2022 12:05

If anyone wants a link I have 3 available I can pm you

I can pm you if you still need one I have 3 left

NigelDidIt · 02/08/2022 17:07

Seems like the codes have been used far more than they thought. My intended delivery for today isn't coming due to "operational reasons" and a friend has had theirs cancelled because Gousto have taken too many orders on.

londonmummy1966 · 02/08/2022 17:09

@NigelDidIt - that is really disappointing - there was a poster up thread who had free Hello Fresh boxes if you wanted to drop them a line

Both mine and my friend's boxes were paid for ones. Think I'm just going to go back to meal planning myself. At least that way I can check the freshness of the items.

MarryMeTomHardy · 02/08/2022 17:25

I also have a code if anyone still needs one, PM me.
My free box (from a code on MN) is arriving Saturday 😁

Tsarina01 · 02/08/2022 17:32

Anyone got a code for hello fresh? Or gousto if they’re still doing it?

Gracesquirrel · 02/08/2022 17:44

They aren't off to a good start with me as they have cancelled my box which I had ordered last week for delivery this Friday saying they had unexpected demand this week because of the free box offer, they have credited me with another free box but thats restricted to delivery on Friday 12th August so no choice of getting one any earlier. It also means that the meal options I chose aren't available as they have changed all the options and I don't think the new options are quite as good - seem to be rather a lot of very spicey options.

whatdodos · 02/08/2022 17:49

Hi! It's just me and my 4 year old in the house he's a little but picky would this be suitable for us to try or is it more for families of 3/4? Been interested in trying one for a while but worried ill he stuck eating it all myself 🙈

TwittleBee · 02/08/2022 17:57

I'm really surprised when people say they view HF as having more choice than G (especially with veggie options!).

We prefer G over HF here as they cater for our dairy free lifestyle and love the vegan options (always at least 12 meals we can choose from)

My 4 year old turns his nose up at most of it but he is really fussy however my 2 year tends to give it a good bash
