To be pissed off by people playing media from their phone speakers on trains

Okay, I am a little irritable this morning because the trains have been up the spout, but is it now acceptable to play media from phone speakers rather than through headphones. It is distracting me from work and really annoying me.

YABU - I'm intolerant, need to move with the times and the train carriage isn't your office.
YANBU - Yes it's selfish and a sign of an increasingly selfish society

Not just on trains either, yesterday morning someone parked outside my house and proceeded to have a conversation with the other person on loudspeaker through their car speakers at full volume, about replacing their boiler, I know how much it costs, where it's coming from and how fucking ripped off the person getting the new boiler feels, I could only hear one side of the conversation, the incoming side and wonder if the person on the other end knew what they were saying was being broadcast around my village!
I was inside and had the front window open, and I live in a first floor flat and there's about 15 feet between that window and the car, so I can barely hear normal conversation of people walking past etc even with the windows open, but the volume was so loud I could hear it clearly.

See (well hear) it on the bus most days with music/loud conversation too.

Say something to the guard if you aren't prepared to speak to them yourself. They're in breach of the byelaws.

I flew out of Gatwick a few weeks ago and I was shocked at how many adults were doing this. Lots of eye rolls and huffs from other passengers.

I hate this.

My worst shifts at work are when I've got up at 2am to drive the 3am train.

Someone sits right behind my cab and blasts out their awful music full volume.

I'm stuck listening to it until they get off and all I want is peace and quiet 🤫

We are on holiday at the moment and so many people give their kids devices at meals , turned up full volume. Makes me irate. Also had to move table last night as a couple decided to smoke right beside us. We were outside, but eating . They could have taken themselves away and then come back

I usually throw them a look, if that doesn't work I ask them to stop

I'm currently on a GWR train where the guard is politely but actively reminding passengers boarding that the Quiet Carriage is not for anyone who wants to chat, watch videos or make phone calls, but that there's plenty of room in the rest of the train if you want to do any of the above. Everyone fine with that. Nice quiet atmos in the QC!

I think the only people who find this acceptable is the people who do it.

It should be banned from happening on public transport.

The vast majority agree with you OP but unfortunately the people who do this will be totally oblivious and couldn’t give a fuck about fellow passengers. (See also similar threads about people eating loudly on trains/buses and dumping rubbish)
