Could people give me their thoughts on this please. I bought myself a large family sized bar of chocolate yesterday. My son and partner came round today. His partner went into the kitchen to make a call came back in the they both said bye and left. I went to get chocolate later on and it had gone with the wrapper in the bin. My sons partner must have eat it said nothing then left.
Aibu being annoyed x

Buy a box of laxative chocolates and pour them into a nice box, leave them on the side and let her help herself, she’s a cheeky bastard and I can’t understand why so many posters are making excuses for a thief.

Testina · 30/07/2022 12:07

I would message your son. “Your girlfriend took and ate an entire 400g bar of chocolate from my fridge without asking - does she have an eating disorder, hence the compulsion and secrecy?”

WisherWood · 30/07/2022 12:10

How unpleasant for the person on the other end of the call to have her masticating through the whole call!

I very much doubt there was any phone call. It will have been an excuse to go into the kitchen to rummage for food.

Anyone stealing chocolate from me would only be doing it once and they'd be bloody stupid to try that. It is not an offence I take lightly.

Sounds like she has an eating disorder. Eating a massive bar like that in one go is not normal.

It was in the fridge. I don't want to upset anyone by asking or seem petty.
The would have been welcome to it if they had asked! x

I wouldn’t worry about upsetting anyone. I’d have said ‘hey where’s my chocolate!’ and then have a gripe at my son. No need to tip toe around it😁

Fadeout83 · 30/07/2022 12:28

Honestly wouldn’t bother me. I help myself plenty at my in laws 😬 maybe I’m rude too.

side note but OP has very clearly not indicated partners gender, several times saying “partner” and “them” and “themselves”. So why is everyone referring to a GF?

also some things said are just loopy. Sorry.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 30/07/2022 12:29

And to intend to eat a family-sized bar yourself!

Did the OP say anywhere that she intended to eat it all in one sitting?

must have an ED myself then. Some of us are just greedy lil shits ok! 🤣

SanpellegrinoIsToryFanta · 30/07/2022 12:33

I would text my son and say 'eh, did X eat my entire chocolate bar when she was on the phone?! I just bought that!'

Probably because....

"We don't have that sort of relationship she would really take offence if I said that. I don't want to upset her but it does seem a bit odd x"

WendellGeez · 30/07/2022 12:42

I wouldn't say anything. What's the point? You'll know to lock your fridge the next time she comes round. She's probably a secret binge eater. The wrapper in plain sight in the bin is a bit amateurish though.

henryhoover3 · 30/07/2022 12:43

Sorted I texted my son and his partner has just called round with the biggest bar of chocolate I have ever seen full of apologies and embarrassed x

Well don’t I look like an arse now. Thanks 🤣

Perhaps she has an eating disorder, saw the choc and binged it on impulse. Might be very embarrassed.

She would have had to open the fridge to see it! What excuse is there for that?

IncompleteSenten · 30/07/2022 12:50

What did you text him?

Herejustforthisone · 30/07/2022 12:55

I’m glad she replaced it. WTF was she thinking?

SurpriseSurprise · 30/07/2022 12:55

What was the text message conversation with him like?!

babyjellyfish · 30/07/2022 13:05

Eating disorder was the first thing that sprung to mind for me too.

I have poor impulse control and I could definitely polish off a family sized bar of chocolate in a short space of time, but I'd draw the line at taking someone else's.

That's someone for whom the shame of someone knowing that you'd eaten their huge bar of chocolate without even asking isn't enough to stop them from doing it.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/07/2022 13:10

I'm glad she has made amends
A bigger bar is kind of her

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 30/07/2022 13:10

All is well that ends well.

I was going to suggest not putting kisses at the end of your texts to them.

As you were.

whynotwhatknot · 30/07/2022 13:25

sounds like shes embarrassed she was caught or she would have replaced it wothout prompting

Glitteratitar · 30/07/2022 13:37

This all sounds like a massive overreaction over a bar of chocolate. If you’re going to get upset over a bar of chocolate, no wonder you guys aren’t friendly.
