Bollocks I've ballsed up

I've had so much on recently. I have had cancer and Im finishing treatment this week I've been meaning to pay the car tax bill, it's just completely escaped me with all the crap I've had to keep on top of (not an excuse I know)

DH is driving me home from the marsden on Monday, it's a 5 hour trip and the fucking car tax runs out on Monday. Will he get pulled over? I know it's an offence to not pay for car tax. Tbh he could have sorted it and didn't so it's not all on me:

We're there now and I've just gone to sort it thinking 'oh fuck that needs doing' and it's can't be done without the letter which is on the kitchen table 5 hours away, or the log book also 5 hours away.

If we go through many anpr cameras on Monday (speed limit cameras etc) will we get 10+ fines? This is a nightmare. My mum has a spare key but I don't feel like I can ask her to drive for 45 mins to get me an 11 digit code on a piece of paper 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

You can sort it in 5 mins on line and pay monthly. Hope you feel better soon.

If your car isn't taxed then by default your also not insured, really not worth the risk. But it sounds like you are OK until midnight on Monday - and if not then I'm sure your mom would rather do the drive to get the number than see you getting into trouble.

The car insurance expires on Sunday, not Monday.

You’ll be grand. If it runs out on Monday you’re fine until midnight on that date. I actually ran out for about 6 weeks without realising and just re-newed it when I realised! I’d been driving round without a clue but never got a fine 🤷🏼‍♀️

It will not run out on Monday. It will expire 11:59 on Sunday, the 31st.

And where did you get those physic powers from - the OP doesn't mention their car insurance?!

Oh haha - just an error, I was meaning that tax. I just looked back and insurance has been mentioned in the post I quoted. Easily done Blush

This is incorrect, though some insurers (I expect a minority) may have a clause that obliges you to ensure your car is taxed. in that scenario, the insurance probably would still be valid (such that you wouldn't get done by the police for it), though in the event of a big claim, the insurers may try to recoup from you.

No MOT (=car is potentially not roadworthy) - that's a different kettle of fish.

An untaxed car can be insured. In fact if it’s been SORNED )Statutory OffRoad Notification ) it’s advisable to insure it while it’s off the road. I used to take my sports car off the road during the winter months, Pointless paying tax on it when it was garaged up for four months of the year. Kept the insurance up to date in case of theft or fire.
The ops road tax runs out at midnight tonight, 23. 59 pm.

I think you missed the point! The OP quite obviously hasn't SORN the car have they and therefore not insured it as SORN. The situation was that they could be driving on the road with no tax, and therefore their insurer would not cover them as they were driving illegally,

No I got the point, I knew the ops car isn’t SORNED. My reading comprehension is quite good.
My comment was in reply to a pp saying the car wasn’t insured if untaxed.
You can still be insured untaxed without the car being SORN, however it all depends on the T&C of the policy.

Thinkingblonde · 01/08/2022 15:12

Oops missed a bit. Insurers don’t like you driving without tax granted, if there was an incident your car wouldn’t be covered but a third party would be, well that’s what my policy says. Again it’s best to check your own.
It driving with no MOT they really frown upon.

wentworthinmate · 01/08/2022 16:57

Sorry haven't read all the replies but don't you need just the reg and the internet? As it's Monday I'm a bit late to the party too Wink

Yep, pretty much this.

The MOT thing is considered much worse because it carries the implication that the car may not be roadworthy, and therefore dangerous.

No, as per the OP you also need the information from the letter, which was at home.

HuffleWoof · 04/08/2022 01:04

Well the dvla wouldn't help us at all, but we didn't get pulled over. Home now and recovering.

Oh and the car is taxed now 😂
