To think the comfort you get from a dog is like no other (photo)

I'm awake (durrr) and really not well. I've been fighting an infection on and off for weeks now (other health complications).

This evening it's all got a bit much and I had a sobbing cry to my DH. DDog was so upset and desperate to get on the sofa to see that i was alright. He eventually disappeared to his sock hidyhole (I still don't know where it is) and placed one on my knee. They make him happy so why shouldn't that work for me?

Everyone has gone to bed (DH is going to deal with kids tomorrow) and I'm in agony. Sat downstairs and DOg has not left my side. Unlike his usual nighttime routine of getting into his bed, he is unmoved from the position he took up a couple of hours ago with his head on my chest and body on my arms.

I cannot tell you the comfort it gives me in the nighttime loneliness, feeling rubbish.

I know that if DH did the same I wouldn't feel half as calmed and soothed as I do with DDog (as much as I love a hug from DH!)

Here he is earlier in the evening but other than a wee and a drink has returned to this position. He is getting me through tonight with his wet nose and gentle snoring

That face would soothe anyone OP, he's beautiful. My boy always seems to know when I'm in pain, I have endometriosis and his warm, heavy head is better than any hot water bottle I hope you manage to get some rest and that you're feeling better soon

I have 2 very snuggly lurchers now who are always cuddling up but my old dog was a lab/collie cross and she would just sit next to you and lean in a little bit when she sensed you needed a bit of support.

When DS1 was born and we had lots of visitors she always used to lie on the floor between where I was sitting with him and the visitor as if to say I'll just keep me on them for you.

Nothing cheers me up like a cuddle with a dog 🥰 dogs are lifesavers.

Get well soon and what a beautiful boy. We had a feisty Jack Russell who was always up to mischief but if one of us was under the weather he just knew and would lie quietly, snuggled in. Dogs are amazing.

The love you feel for a child is like no other. Not an animal. They are not replacements for partners or children.

I have a mountain of things I need to do today...... but currently have a severe case of canine paralysis

Oh thank you so much for your kind messages. I did manage to haul myself to bed and DDog followed me and kept me warm in the spare room so I didn't disturb anyone

He is a chocolate lab called Duke and the biggest softie

We got him after I was diagnosed with some health problems and it's honestly the best thing we've ever done.

He adjusts depending on who he's with. With DH he has energetic walks, running around. With me, he walks slowly by my side and we 'saunter' and with the DC he is so gentle and lets go of whatever is in his mouth the minute they reach for something

I am just loving the photos and stories on here. He's currently on the floor by my chair but pressed heavily onto my leg so I know he's there

YANBU with normal dogs, but then you get ones like this guy. He can't comfort you because he's a tortured artiste. A canine genius if you will. He has sensitive moods.
He's capable of great affection but if you do something to offend his dignity he'll be wounded for days.

Dogs are literally the best. I hope you're feeling better soon. Your pup is incredible, I love his wise face and boop-worthy schnozz.
We have a scrumptious 4yo unknown mix (his Patt-x mum was a rescue adopted by friends when pregnant) and he's the best companion, soother, snuggler and emotion senser. He's also a sock smuggler (nickname is Dobby 😁) and brings them as gifts when he knows we most need them.
Can't describe how much we ❤️ him.
